The History of Live Roulette

casino bonus with free spins There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the exact origins of Live Roulette, but it’s believed to have come from France in the 18th Century.

The very name of Roulette in French means ‘little wheel’, and the man behind it was called Blaise Pascal, or at least that’s what many historians believe.

Pascal wasn’t out to create one of the most infamous gambling games, mind you. He was actually in search of a perpetual motion machine as part of his contribution to physics.  One of the earliest descriptions of Roulette in its current form was found in a French Novel from 1796, La Roulette, ou le Jour.

In this book, the author Jaques Lablee describes a Roulette Wheel within the infamous Palais Royal, which certainly seems to confirm how old Roulette actually is.

The evolution of such a game over time is natural, of course, but some of the same rules remain consistent to this very day.  Older Roulette Wheels in 1790s Paris used a wheel with single and double zeros, with the colours red and black to represent them.

To avoid any confusion, the colour of zeros on the Roulette wheel was changed to green in the early 1800s. Roulette itself could be considered a product of the butterfly effect, if you think about it. One man’s search for a perpetual motion machine might have unintentionally kickstarted a series of events that resulted in the Roulette we know and love today.

Of course, the history of Live Roulette goes much deeper than what we’re able to cover here, but regardless of how it came to be, we’re just glad it did.  Now you know a brief history of Roulette, but how exactly does it work?

How to Play Live Roulette Online

Online Live Casino Roulette is played with a wheel and an area known as the layout, which is a numbered area covered in cloth.

Players are required to make bets by placing chips on or between the numbered areas on the layout with inside bets, which are placed directly on one or more numbers, or outside bets, which are placed on positions such as high-low, red-black, or others, such as 1st third, 2nd third and 3rd third.

There are other types of bets too, and wheels often vary depending on where you’re playing Live Roulette.

Live Roulette in Europe usually has a single 0 on the wheel, but American Roulette often favours a wheel with both 0 and Double 00 because of its higher house edge.

Live Roulette works very similar to Roulette in a land-based casino. A croupier hosts the crowd via video stream, and players place their bets before the game begins. The croupier will spin the wheel in one direction, and then spin the ball in the opposite direction along a circular track on the wheel.  Bets can be placed up until the dealer announces “no more bets”.

With Live Roulette Online, you’re getting a very similar experience to that of a land-based casino with real people, real croupiers and real, random results..but what about RNG Live Roulette?

Not all of the Roulette online is Live Roulette, after all. Some are simply games that take the maths from Roulette and put it into a game where the player can make bets and play at their speed, with no pressure in terms of time constraints, dealers or other players.

RNG means Random number Generator. A Random Number Generator is a computer algorithm, which ensures fairness by giving each number an exactly equal chance.  We’ll talk more about the fairness…or unfairness, of Live Roulette later in the article, but for now, let’s check out Live Roulette Bets and how to place them.

Live Roulette Inside Bets

Type of Bet Description Chip Placement
Single or Straight Bet Bet on one number only Chip sits entirely within the square and does not overlap any other square
Split Bet Bet on two numbers that are horizontal or vertical to each other Chip sits on the line between two neighbouring numbers either horizontally, or vertically
Street Bet Betting on three consecutive numbers Chips are placed on three consecutive numbers next to each other on the layout
Corner Bet/Square Bet Betting on four numbers that meet at a common corner On a common Corner, creating a square. E.g. 1, 2, 4 & 5
Six Line/Double Street Betting on six consecutive numbers to form two horizontal lines On corners shared by your three chosen numbers
First Four Bet on 0-1-2-3 (European Roulette On the outer corner shared by 0-1 or 0-3
Trio Three number bets that involves at least one zero On the corner shared by the three chosen numbers
Basket Bet on 0-00-1-2-3 (American Roulette) On the outer corner shared by 0-1 or 00-3

Live Roulette Outside Bets

When you’re playing Live Online Roulette you have the option to make outside bets. Outside bets generally pay lower than straight numbers or other inside bets, but the chances of winning are higher.

Every Outside Bet shares a common rule whereby if a zero comes up, they lose. The only exception to this rule is within the United Kingdon, where Low/High, Red/Black or Even-Odd gives back half of the bet if a zero comes in.

1 to 18 or 19 to 36

The 1-18 (Low or Manque) or 19-36 (High or Passe) bets are simply bets for the roulette ball to land on one of the numbers within the range chosen.

Even or Odd-Even or Odd, or ‘Pair ou Impair’ as it may be referred to, is simply a bet that the number will be either even, or odd.

Red or Black

The Red or Black or ‘Rouge ou Noir’ bet is self-explanatory.’ This is simply a bet that the number will be Red or Black. The number itself doesn’t matter in this instance.

Dozen Bet

A Dozen bet is a bet that the number will be in a chosen dozen. The possible bet types are 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36

Column Bet

Column bets are bets with every number in a vertical column (12 numbers total)

Live Roulette Bets and Payouts

The payout value of Roulette numbers depends on which type of bet you placed. Live Roulette may vary depending on which version you’re playing, but as a general rule, the payout values are as follows

Bet Payout Ratio Odds (European) House Edge (European) Odds (American) House Edge (European)
Straight Bet 35:1 2.70% 2.70% 2.63 5.26%
Split Bet 17:1 5.41% 2.70% 5.26% 5.26%
Street Bet 11:1 8.11% 2.70% 7.89% 5.26%
Square 8:1 10.81% 2.70% 10.53% 5.26%
Top Line 6:1 13.16% 7.89%
6 Line 5:1 16.22% 2.70% 15.79% 5.26%
Columns 2:1 32.43% 2.70% 31.58% 5.26%
Dozens 2:1 32.43% 2.70% 31.58% 5.26%
Low/High (1-18 – 19-36) 1:1 48.65% 2.70% 47.37% 5.26%
Evens/Odds 1:1 48.65% 2.70% 47.37% 5.26%
Reds/Blacks 1:1 48.65% 2.70% 47.37% 5.26%

House edge changes on even chance bets with the La Partage rule, which means that 50% of the bet is given back to the player in the event of a zero. The house edge is then 1.35%.

Is Online Live Roulette Rigged?

The legitimacy of Live Roulette and just about every other game is always in question, but does the insistent claims of foul play reflect the truth?

There are times when you’re on an incredible run, only for the tides to turn in almost an instant.

Such a run could only be the result of some sort of sleight of hand, right? Not necessarily. In our search for answers about why we lost it’s easy enough to blame the casino, and it’s easy to be convinced by the forums where others also claim that they were wronged.

We’re not saying that Live Roulette is fair everywhere; there’s certainly a substantial number of dodgy casinos out there, but for the most part, Live Roulette is conducted fairly.

How can you weed out the scams from the legitimate Live Roulette Games? Let’s take a look at why we think Online Live Roulette is legitimate…most of the time anyway.

Gambling Licences

To the average player, names like Pragmatic Play and Evolution Gaming may not mean much, or anything at all, for that matter.

The truth is, the name behind the game means a lot more than you think, and licencing is the reason why.  Evolution Gaming and Pragmatic Play are reputable and regulated companies bound by stringent regulations, and they really can’t afford to lose that licence.

Regulators like the UKGC (United Kingdom Gambling Commission) and the MGA (Malta Gaming Authority) regularly conduct independent audits to ensure fairness for the consumer, and failure to adhere could be devastating for these companies.

It’s easy to let emotion cloud judgement, but if you think about it, then these companies do have a vested interest in making sure that they’re as fair as they can possibly be.  As it turns out in this case, being fair is infinitely more profitable to them than scamming customers.

Random Number Generators (RNG)

As mentioned earlier in the article, RNG comes into play where real people and real-live roulette wheels aren’t involved.

There are plenty of people who prefer a more solitary, or shall we say personalised experience when they’re playing Roulette.  Live Roulette can be overwhelming for some, and to those people, an ‘offline’ variant of their favourite casino game brings welcome respite.  When software is involved, how can it be fair? Who’s to say that it isn’t rigged in favour of the Casino?

All of the points in terms of licencing apply here too, but RNG is another variable too.  How does it work exactly? Well, Random Number Generator software is a software algorithm that generates and outputs a number from a limited or unlimited pool of numbers and outputs it.  Depending on where it’s used, Random Number Generators can be a little complicated, but for the sake of Roulette, it’s rather simple.

The computer will simply pick a game outcome within the parameters allowed for Roulette, and show the result to the player via a video animation.  There’s an understandable reluctance to trust computers over people, but rest assured that these types of games are independently tested, just like every other game.

Provably Fair Live Roulette

bitcoin casino advantages

Provably Fair Live Roulette is a different kettle of fish, and you’d have to step into Cryptocurrency territory to use this method of proven fairness.

Provably Fair Live Roulette and other casino games are named so because of their ability to give players the tools to check the fairness for themselves.

This means that there’s no way for the casino to illicitly fix the result, because the result of the spin is provable and transparent.  Provably fair roulette refers to an algorithm that checks and verifies the result thanks to blockchain technology, and aside from fairness, there are other benefits to Provably Fair Roulette games too.

Provably fair games do not need third-party auditing, there are lower fees, and the privacy of Cryptocurrency compared to traditional fiat currency is one of the many reasons why it’s so preferable to some. Of course, there are drawbacks too. Provably Fair Live Roulette is only available at Casinos outside of the jurisdiction of the UKGC and the player protection that comes with it.

How to Avoid Illegitimate Live Roulette Casinos

Common sense is your best friend when it comes to playing Live Roulette. You should look to ensure that your chosen casino is regulated by the authority relevant to your country, and you should also ensure that you’re playing games by reputable providers with a lot to lose by fixing the result.

For the most part, Live Roulette Online is completely fair, despite how it may seem.

Remember, the house always has the edge, so even at the fairest of casinos, you’re more likely to suffer a loss than benefit from a win.  Temper your expectations about how much money you can win on Live Roulette, only play for fun, never chase losses and only gamble with money that you can afford to lose.

Live Roulette UK

Live Dealer Roulette UK  is a popular choice for those within the UK, and for good reason.

The people of the UK have a deep-seated history with the game of roulette, with wheel games like Roly Poly having made its debut in 1720.  Roly Poly was only played by royalty and nobility, and later on Gambling on games like Roulette were widespread thanks to the Prince of Monaco and his Gambling houses to combat economic problems.

Ask anyone of any age and they’re likely to know what Roulette is, but not many know where to play it online. In this day and age, we all have an unprecedented number of options when it comes to where to play, and which Roulette games to play.  In this section we’ll talk about 5 casinos with great Live Roulette options a. Jackpot.com

Jackpot.com Casino Logo

Jackpot.com is home to some of the best live roulette games around, with selections like roulette live, mega fire blaze roulette live, quantum roulette live, and much more. Jackpot.com primarily focuses on jackpot slots of course, but it makes the list of best live roulette games because of its impressive roulette catalogue.

Live Chat Roulette

Live Roulette has always been a social game with many players around the table sharing the excitement.  One might think that the social aspect of live roulette is all but eliminated given how players choose to play today, but in fact, the opposite is true.  Live roulette is just as social as ever before, with lobbies for hundreds of players to convene and converse.

Truly, live roulette is just as social as its ever been, and perhaps more so, given how many players can enter a lobby at one time.

The community aspect of this infamous game really enhances the experience, but there’s always a few emotional players in the fold. Evolution Gaming’s Lightning Roulette is a prime example of live chat roulette, but careful inspection of the chat exposes the negative aspect of social play too.

Many in the chat will viciously insult live croupiers when they’re on a bad run, demanding that they switch dealer while typing unbelievable profanities.

Remember, if you’re an emotional player, then perhaps its time to take a little breather. The dealer has no bearing on what number will or won’t land, so there’s no gains to be had in berating somebody else for your choices.  This kind of negativity really doesn’t belong in the otherwise enjoyable game that is live roulette, but otherwise, the invention of live chat within online games really does make live roulette a pleasure to play.

Is Live Roulette UK Safe?

Live Roulette UK is arguably the most safe jurisdiction for live roulette games because of UKGC gambling laws.  The UKGC is one of the more proactive regulators when it comes to online gambling and player protection, so you’re really in safe hands at UK Licenced casinos.

Online Casinos put a particular emphasis into their best live casino catalogue to make sure that they’re appealing in a competitive market.

The result of this of course, is plenty of casinos with an unbelievable selection of live roulette games.

All live roulette games on UKGC licenced casinos are regularly tested for fairness, so there should be no worries about fairness.

Best Live Roulette Online

A quick glance at live roulette games online shows us a seemingly infinite number of choices, but which live roulette online is the best?

Roulette in a land-based casino may be rather standard, with the exception of a few slight variations, but live roulette online is a different story.

nnovation online has made Live Roulette unrecognisable in some aspect with features that shakes up the game in unimaginable ways.  Let’s take a look at what we think some of the best live roulette games are.

European Roulette

European Flag circle

This one is a given. European Roulette is Roulette in its purest form with a single 0 and 36 numbers.

Despite the popularity of live roulette variants, the classic version of the game remains as one of the most popular, if not the most popular.  European Roulette has many variants online depending on what and where you want to play. Speed Roulette, Auto Roulette and other linguistic Roulette tables online may use European Rules.

Your favourite Live European Roulette game may even have a ‘first person mode’. The First Person version of these games generally gives you that same Live Casino experience, but without the time constraints.

American Roulette

American Flag Circle

This one is no surprise either. American Roulette is a respectable game with its own fan base, and it only has slight differences to European Roulette.

No matter where you’re playing, you’ll find a hearty selection of American Roulette games if you’re more inclined towards that than European Roulette.  Remember though, the house edge with American Roulette is higher than that of European Roulette because of the extra ‘00’ on the wheel.

Lightning Roulette – Evolution Gaming

Lightning Roulette from Evolution Gaming needs no introduction to some, but others may not be aware of this immensely exciting live roulette variant.

Lightning Roulette by Evolution Gaming brings players a dynamic, exciting and social environment, with live dealers, live chat and a very interesting change from the standard version of Roulette.

Lightning Roulette uses European Rules with its single zero, and payouts are almost identical except for straight numbers. In Lightning Roulette, Straight Up Numbers pay 29-499:1 because of the possibility of lightning strikes.

In each game round, one to five ‘Lightning Numbers’ are randomly struck by lightning, which allows players to win from 50x – 400x on a straight-up number.

Lightning Roulette comes with pros and cons, of course. One on hand, the payout for a straight-up number without lightning is smaller than your standard Roulette variant, but on the other, up to 500x on a single straight-up number gives it the potential to be exponentially higher too.

The optimal theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Straight Up bets is 97.10%.

The optimal RTP for any other bets is 97.30% Lightning Roulette is a prime example of how slight innovation drastically changes a game.

We’re sure Lightning Roulette isn’t the first multiplier Roulette of its kind, but Evolution Gaming has pulled it off in such a way that it’s an immensely exciting prospect for any Roulette enthusiast.

XXXtreme Lightning Roulette – Evolution Gaming

XXXtreme Lightning Roulette-compressed

XXXtreme Lightning Roulette is Evolution Gaming’s newest Lightning Roulette variant.

Having witnessed first hand the popularity and demand for their original game, Lightning Roulette, the people of Evolution Gaming took to the drawing board to create an even bigger monster.  XXXtreme Lightning Roulette works much in the same way that the original did, but with a notable difference for straight up numbers.

In this variant, the maximum 500x from Lightning Roulette is dwarfed by XXXtreme Lightning Roulette’s potential 2000x multiplier.

This does come at a cost though, straight up numbers with no multipliers now pay 19:1, which is considerable lower than traditional roulette rules and lower even than Lightning Roulette which paid 29:1.

This is an understandable though, the potential for lightning numbers here is so high that Evolution Gaming had to make some adjustments to make it possible.

Mega Fire Blaze Roulette Live – Playtech

Mega Fire Blaze Roulette Live from Playtech is another live dealer, real roulette variant with European standard rules.

Mega Fire Blaze differs from conventional roulette in how it introduces ‘Fire Numbers’ into play.  During every game round, up to 5 random numbers (or 10 numbers during special events) are selected to become fire numbers.

If the ball lands on a fire number, then the Mega Fire Blaze Bonus game is triggered, where players may win bets with multipliers of up to 10,000x.  The Mega Fire Blaze Bonus Gmae starts a game with 36 slots, which is divided into 6 segments that contain two 3-slot columns.

Some slots will display random multipliers, which may be 1x, 2x, 4x, 5x, 5x, 10x, 15x or 50x. The number of slots that are filled with the multipliers at the beginning of the bonus game is exactly equal to the number of fire numbers selected at the beginning of the standard game.  The aim of the game is to watch in the hopes that a random multiplier will spin into empty slots, and fill as many slots as possible.

If a segment is filled with multipliers, then a special multiplier segment (2x, 3x or 5x) is awarded before multiplying all multipliers within that segment.  Some segments may also have Jackpot tier multipliers. There are 4 Jackpot levels in total during the bonus game

  • Mini – 20x
  • Minor – 100x
  • Major – 500x
  • Grand – 2000x

Mega Fire Blaze Roulette works on a lives system similar to those seen in slots. 3 Spins are awarded, but landing a multiplier resets the spins back to 3.

3 consecutive spins without a multiplier end the game.  Mega Fire Blaze Roulette is a lot more complicated when compared to other roulette variants, but the potential is truly astounding.

Quantum Roulette is another of Playtech’s Live Roullete games to soar to popularity.  Quantum Roulette introduces win multipliers before each spin by randomly choosing up to 5 numbers before applying multipliers of up to 500x to them.

Multiplier Roulette is becoming increasingly popular, but similarly to other games of this kind, adjustments need to be made to the payouts of straight numbers to compensate for the possibility of multipliers.

Where to Play Online Live Roulette UK

100 casino bonus If you’ve read our opinions on what we believe to be the best live roulette games around, then you’re probably wondering where you can play them.

The good news is, that you can play some of these great live roulette games almost everywhere.  Evolution Gaming are titans in the Live Casino Industry, and Playtech has their share of the market as one of the most popular casino suppliers too.  The great thing about casino operators is their integrations with other casinos and suppliers alike.

It’s a little-known fact that many casinos are operated and owned by the same entity, and when this happens, you’re likely to get many of the same games across multiple sites.  Look at Video Slots and Mr Vegas as an example. Both of these are sister sites to one another, and at both, you’ll find the same amazing live roulette games.

Any online casino worth their salt wants to include the likes of Evolution Gaming and Playtech because they recognise just how in-demand games from these providers are.  Some casinos will even collaborate with suppliers to make their version of the best roulette games. Lightning Roulette is playable across multiple online casinos, but Unibet recently launched their own game, Unibet Lightning Roulette.

The collaboration doesn’t change anything in terms of gameplay, but you’re getting a more personable and tailored experience with these dedicated branded variants.

In this instance, the answer to ‘where to play live roulette’ is as simple as the question itself, because the answer is pretty much anywhere.

Pretty much every single online casino has live roulette in one form or another, so unless you’re playing at a casino that dedicates their focus more to bingo, then you’re likely to find a healthy selection of live roulette games.

Casino Bonus wagering requirements Most of us have signed up for an online casino before, and a fair amount of us has accepted a casino bonus to increase our chances.  But how does Live Roulette work alongside wagering requirements? Most of these offers are tailored specifically for slots, so it could be unwise to play Roulette with an active bonus. Here are some of the reasons why you might want to avoid the wheel while you’re playing with a bonus.

Wagering Exclusions

Some live casinos exclude live roulette outright if you’ve got an active bonus. You should read the terms and conditions of each and every bonus you get, lest you lose it by breaching the terms of the agreement by playing live roulette.

Wagering Contribution

Game contributions Some live casinos accept live roulette as a possibility even with an active bonus, but you’re unlikely to find any that contributes fully towards the completion of your wagering requirements.  Wagering can be a confusing topic, even for seasoned players, but it’s really quite simple/

If you accepted a 100% match bonus with a £10 deposit, then you’d have £10 in real cash, and £10 in bonus funds, totalling £20.

In this hypothetical offer, you’re required to wager the sum of your deposit and your bonus 35x (35 times) before bonus funds become real cash.

Using this example, you’ve got £700 to wager before you can cash out your money, but what does that have to do with Live Roulette?

The Best Live Casinos state in their terms and conditions what does and doesn’t contribute towards wagering. Slots generally contribute 100% towards completion, meaning that a £1 spin on a slot will knock £1 off of that £700 total, but quite often, Roulette doesn’t even contribute 20%  A 20% contribution on a £1 bet means you’ve only knocked £0.20 off of your total, so you’re not making the most of your money.

Maximum Bet

bonus limits Casino bonuses usually lay down a maximum acceptable bet when you accept an offer. Sometimes this can be £5 or more, but exceeding this means you forfeit the entire bonus.

Roulette is fairly easy to bet big on when compared to slots, so it should probably be avoided if you’re looking to complete wagering.

Where to Play Mobile Roulette

In this day and age, we’re all using mobile phones. 20 years ago if you’d have tallied up how people are accessing the internet then the desktop computer would have been a clear winner, but now things have drastically changed. Mobile use is increasing in just about every country on earth, and the data seems to suggest that this trend will continue.

If you’re worried about where to play mobile live roulette, then rest assured that online casinos are ready and able to accommodate mobile users.

Every live casino has an optimised mobile site, and each of the best live roulette games has mobile variants to make the process just as enjoyable as it is on the desktop.

The primary focus for casino operators and casino suppliers is to create a seamless experience for their overwhelming mobile user base.

The most popular choices are, of course, iPhone and Android. Both of these popular devices work extremely well with online play, and some casinos have even gone as far as making an app for their online casino.

How to Beat Live Roulette

So you know all about Roulette, how it works, which variants there are and where to play it, but how do you beat live roulette?

The first thing to note is that Live Roulette is a gambling game, so the odds are stacked against you from the start.

However, this doesn’t mean that you don’t have a chance to beat Live Roulette, but one should temper their expectations about any gambling game, even Blackjack where the odds of winning are higher than any other casino game.

Roulette is a lot more profitable if you win of course because of the lower odds of winning, but are there any legitimate strategies that you can do to ensure a nice cash-out?

Play European Roulette

American Roulette is a choice available to anyone playing live roulette, but why would you? The odds are lower than that of the European variant because of the extra number on the wheel. American Roulette wheels have a double zero, or ‘00’ space on the wheel, which means that your odds of winning are lower.

As well as this, both American and European Roulette share the same payout values, which means that you’re not getting any more from playing American Roulette.

Standard European and American  Roulette pays 35-1 every time you hit a straight-up number, so why not make it easier for yourselves with a European Roulette table?

Bet Bigger, But Be Careful

This one goes without saying so take the ‘bet bigger’ idea with a pinch of salt.

Betting bigger on roulette means more odds of winning, that is if you space out your bets of course.

If you cover more numbers, then your chances improve, but you’ll want to be careful.

Depending on how much you bet, you could even find yourself in a situation where hitting a straight-up number doesn’t even cover your bet amount. This can be okay for multiplier roulette variants where you’re holding out for the big multiplier hit, but there’s nothing really to gain from betting more than you can get back on traditional European Roulette.

Outside Bets

One of the best ways to minimise the risk in Live Roulette is to play outside bets, which simply means to place a bet outside of the confines of the numbered area.

Outside bets have nowhere near the potential of straight-up numbers, or any of the inside bets for that matter.  However, the odds of winning are much higher, and betting on Outside Bets will result in more consistent wins.  Most of the Outside Bets give you nearly a 50% chance of winning, which results in a payout of 1:1.

The Martingale Betting System

The Martingale Strategy is widely known, and its premise is quite simple.

In essence, this particular strategy requires you to double your bet each time you lose in an attempt to win back your money for that spin, and the one before it.

If you were to win, then you’d recoup your losses in one fell swoop, but as is the nature of gambling, there’s always a downside.  A bad streak could turn the tide in the casinos favour, and the amount that you’d have to bet to break even soon stacks up.

The Grand Martingale Betting System

The Grand Martingale Betting System is both similar in name and function to the Martingale Betting System, except its riskier.  To use this, every time you double your bet to recoup your losses you’d also add on an amount equal to your original bet.

The Anti-Martingale Betting System

The Anti-Martingale, or Reverse Martingale as it’s sometimes dubbed, is a betting system that reverses the strategy of The Martingale and Grand Martingale Betting System. Using this system, the Anti-Martingale approach dictates that you should increase your wager after every win, but decrease the lager after every loss.

Pray

This one isn’t a strategy, but a plea to the gambling gods in the heavens above.

At the end of the day, Roulette is a game of chance, and it’s a game of chance in favour of the house.

Despite what people tell you, there’s no sure-fire way to make money on Roulette.

Each and every strategy has the potential to pay big, but more importantly, it also runs the risk of emptying your balance.

Gamble only for fun, and with money you can afford to lose. Live Roulette has changed people’s lives for the better but in equal or even greater measure, it’s made them worse.

There’s nothing to gain but disappointment from trying to become a professional Roulette player.  Roulette should be a source of enjoyment and nothing more, but it is called the devil’s game, after all.

Why is Roulette called the Devil’s Game?

Here’s a fun bit of trivia to accompany our sombre warning about the unlikely long term prospects in Roulette.

Live Roulette and Roulette in general has been dubbed for time immemorial. Legends and hearsay suggest that François Blanc made a deal with the devil, but in reality it’s because all of the numbers in Roulette add up to ‘666’ when combined, which is the number of the beast.

We’re not as superstitious today as people once were, but people often still refer to Roulette as “The Devil’s Game”, or “The Devil’s Wheel”.

Live Roulette FAQ

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about the game of Live Roulette!

What is Live Roulette?

Live Roulette is just like any other land-based Roulette game, except it’s online! Online may seem less sociable, but a single roulette table can host hundreds of players online.

How do you Play Live Roulette?

Playing Live Roulette is just like normal roulette, but with a mouse instead of physical casino chips. Simply bet on the numbers that you think will land before the dealer announces no more bets, and hope for your number!

Where Can I Play Live Roulette?

Live Roulette can be played and enjoyed by all at most Online Casinos. For players in the UK, we’d recommend sticking to regulated UKGC licenced casinos, which ensures compliance on the casino’s side, and player safety

Do Roulette Strategies Work?

Not really, unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it. If there was a sure-fire way to ensure consistent big wins on Live Roulette, then the game would have died aeons ago.

Thankfully, it’s still here, but along with that comes the house edge. People might tell you that there’s a way to beat the game, but there really isn’t. It’s a game of chance like many other live casino games, so our best advice is to best sensibly and to know when to call it a day.

Should I Pick American Roulette or European Roulette?

Always pick European Roulette if the option is available to you. American Roulette has exactly the same when it comes to payouts, but there’s another number on the wheel, which lowers your chances of winning.

Does the Zero Increase the House Edge?

The short answer is yes, and it’s why the ‘0’ and ‘00’ spaces are green instead of red of black.

How Old Do I Need to be to Play Live Roulette Online?

You need to be at least 18 to play live roulette online within the UK, but the age will differ depending on the country you’re in. In Canada and New Zealand, you need to be ages 19 and 20 respectively, and in the United States you’ll need to be 18, 19 or 21 (state dependent)

What is Russian Roulette?

Russian Roulette is about as far away from European or American Roulette as you can get! We won’t go into detail, but don’t go looking to play this one!

Can I Demo Live Roulette Online?

Lots of sites have demo Roulette. Simply google ‘free play roulette’ or ‘demo roulette’ and you’ll be able to try your hand at the infamous Devil’s Wheel without any loss of real cash.

We wholeheartedly recommend demo play if it means that you don’t lose real money. A bit of fun is the objective here, after all.  Demo Live Roulette games won’t come with a real croupier like the real live roulette variants do, but you’ll still get a similar experience.

Are there Bet Limits?

Some Live Roulette Casinos may set limits on how much you can bet, or how many numbers you can bet on.

For the most part, Live Roulette is catered both to casual players and super high rollers, but you’ll want to check the limits for each game before you try to stick loads of money on it, and you should consider the individual game and its straight up bet payouts too.

Can I Get Free Spins?

An online Casino may do a promotion whereby Free Spins are offered to players, but generally these offers are for slots. There are some exceptions though; a casino may well offer a free bet to use on Roulette, which gives you a Free Spin
