Big Bass Bonanza returns for it’s third (but not final) instalment to the series with Big Bass Bonanza Megaways.
Let’s be honest, Big Bass Bonanza Megways was more invenitable than it was predictable. It was only a matter of time until the fisherman took his rod and ventured into waters with a ways to win mechanic, but does Big Bass Bonanza offer anything more? Or is repeating the history written by Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways?
Big Bass Bonanza has always been a slot with a fierce divide. Some love it, and some can’t stand it. Will Big Bass Bonanza be the same? Let’s find out.
The theme for Big Bass Bonanza is self explanatory in some senses. It’s definitely more of a familiar sight than it is a new experience.
In the backdrop you’ll see the depths of an ocean teeming with life, and on the audio front you’ll hear the same jolly tune that we’ve heard previously.
The more striking theme about the Big Bas Bonanza Design is of course, the new Megaways mechanic. Bigger Reels and more ways to win will undoubtedly excite more than the overall theme.
Big Bass Bonanza Megaways has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available is £0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet available is £100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.
The highest paying regular symbol in Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is the Fishing Float, followed by the Fishing Rod, Dragonfly, Tackle Box and Fish. Lower paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.
Wild symbols substitute for all symbols except Scatters and Fishermen symbols.
Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 46,656 ways to win. To form a win you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Big Bass Bonanza Megaways features Tumbling Reels. Symbols that form a winning combination will disappear and new symbols will then tumble into place, filling the gaps. Situated atop the reels is an additional sliding reel, any symbols in this reel that are used form a win will too disappear and the remaining symbols will slide to the left, filling the empty spaces.
Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is recognizable in the way that you’d expect it to be given the series it belongs to, but the Megaways addition brings a new aspect to the Big Bass Bonanza series.
Big Bass Bonanza and Bigger Bass Bonanza had a somewhat classic approach with fixed pay lines and non cascading symbols, and although the theme and design remains, the way in which it works has been modified heavily.
Big Bass Bonanza doesn’t look to reinvent the Megaways Mechanic by any means, so although its a first for the series, you’ll probably have a rough idea of how it works if you’ve played a Megaways slot before.
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters on any of the reels (excluding the sliding reel) awards 10, 15 and 20 Free Spins respectively.
During Free Spins, the Fisherman will make an appearance and all Money values will become active.
If a Fisherman symbol lands in view at the same time as any Money values, he will reel in the values and add them to the total amount won.
For every 4th Fisherman symbol that is collected will retrigger the feature, awarding an additional +10 Free Spins and a Multiplier of 2x for the first retrigger, 3x Multiplier for the second retrigger and 10x Multiplier for the third retrigger.
If 1 or 2 Fishermen symbols land on the reels with no Money symbols present, at the end of the Free Spin a Dynamite animation may appear randomly and place Money symbols in certain positions on the reels.
At any given time, if there are 1 or 2 Fishermen symbols on the reels and no Money symbols are in view, at the end of the Free Spin a Bazooka animation can appear and change all the symbols on the screen, excluding Fishermen symbols.
If you’ve read the entirety of this review, then there’s a good chance that you’re not surprised in the slightest about what you’ve learned about this new title.
Like we said before, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways was just a matter of time. It would have been more shocking if Pragmatic Play had never created it to be honest. As always, the Fishing style slot has resounding popularity with an audience who still hold Fishin’ Frenzy dear, and the Megaways implementation here may even reel in some die hard Megaways slot fans too.
Big Bass Bonanza does nothing to reinvent the Megaways mechanic, which is fine, but to some it probably won’t do much to induce any overwhelming feelings of excitement.
The most telling thing Pragmatic Play’s relutance to ‘go big’ is the win potential. 4,000x is the maximum figure, and while it outperforms the likes of others in the series it’s extremely low for a Megaways title. Pragmatics release schedule has always been far more hectic than other providers, but none really dare to blow the roof off with unprecedented win potential.
At this point, we really feel like Pragmatic could put the brakes on a bit and sit back to nurture a new idea. Some of their slots of late just seems to fly straight off of the conveyor belt without an ounce of originality in sight.
Overall, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is quite enjoyable at times, but its entirely predictable. If you’re a hardcore fan of the Fishin’ Frenzy style of slots then you may well enjoy Big Bass Bonanza very much. If you haven’t loved the series so far, then we don’t think the Megaways stamp will do much to change your mind.
