Get ready for another epic adventure with two of our favourite Elk Studios characters Toro and Matador, in Buffalo Toro!

Toro is back and this time he’s traveled to the West to help save the last of the ultra-rare Golden Buffalos from extinction. Not far behind is Matador who has other ideas and plans to hunt them down and collect their golden plaids for himself.

Although Toro and Matador aren’t on friendly terms, the pair work well together in slots and the storylines that Elk Studios come up with are quite comical and fun in themselves.

Toro and Matador have been on quite a few adventures together so far which some of you may be familiar with already. The pair first appeared in Wild Toro and since then have become quite popular with players in other ‘Toro’ titles such as Wild Toro II, Book of Toro and Toro 7’s, but will Buffalo Toro have the same effect on us?

Buffalo Toro Base Game and Features

Buffalo Toro is a 6 reel slot with 4,096 ways to win. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€50 per spin, with a small choice of betting options in between the two. Buffalo Toro has a theoretical RTP of 94.00%.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Buffalo Toro is the Buffalo, followed by the Eagle, Puma, Wolf and Bear. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine.

There is also a regular Wild symbol present which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters, Super Scatters, Toro and Matador symbols. In addition to this, there is also a Multiplier Wild symbol present which awards a random Multiplier of either x2 or x3 when it contributes to a win.

Sticking to tradition, Elk Studios has bought back the Toro Walking Wild along with the Toro Goes Wild feature and Matador Respins. More on these below!

Toro Walking Wild

The third and final Wild symbol present here is the Toro Walking Wild which can land during any random base game spin.

Once a Toro Walking Wild lands in view, he will move one position to the left until he falls off the left-most reel, delivering a Respin each time he moves. If a Matador symbol happens to land at the same time, this will automatically trigger the Toro Goes Wild feature.

Toro Goes Wild Feature

Once the Toro Goes Wild feature is triggered, Toro will first move Vertically and then Horizontally in order to knock all present Matador symbols off, leaving a trail of regular Wild symbols as he goes.

Toro will continue to attack until all Matador symbols are wiped out.

Matador Respins

Landing 2 or more Matador symbols during any random base game spin, automatically awards a Matador Respin.

Once active, all present Matador symbols will lock into their positions and a Respin will be awarded. During the Matador Respin, if another Matador symbol lands in view it will also lock into its position and an additional Respin is awarded.

The Matador Respin(s) will end when no more Matador symbols land or if a Toro Walking Wild appears which then triggers the Toro Goes Wild feature.

Buffalo Toro Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatters in any position on the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 8, 12, 16 and 20 Free Spins respectively. Landing the Super Scatter on reel 6 awards the Super Bonus round instead.

At the top of the reel set is 4 High-paying symbols each with their own Collection Meter. During Free Spins, collecting 3 Gold Buffalo symbols will upgrade the least valuable High-paying symbol into the Buffalo symbol. In order to upgrade all 4 High-paying symbols you will need to collect a total of 12 Gold Buffalo symbols.

The Super Bonus round works in the same way the regular Free Spins round works, but here you will have the added benefit of Rampage Reels. Each time 3 Gold Buffalo symbols are collected and a High-paying symbol is upgraded, the Rampage Reels feature comes into effect.

Rampage Reels are fully stacked reels consisting of only Buffalo symbols. Once active, between 1 and the maximum number of Rampage Reels are randomly triggered at the start of each Free Spin. Landing 3, 6, 9 or 12 Gold Buffalo symbols awards a maximum of 2, 3, 4 and 5 Rampage Reels respectively.

Landing 2 Scatter symbols during the Free Spins round awards an additional +4 Free Spins, or landing 3 Scatters awards the full amount of Free Spins awarded during the initial trigger.

Buffalo Toro X-iter

Buffalo Toro is another to feature ELK’s amazing X-iter Bonus Buy Feature, but UK players might want to read on because this isn’t available to you.

Buffalo Toro: Our Verdict

The Toro branding in Buffalo Toro feels more like a move to bolster Buffalo Toro’s popularity rather than a toro game in its own right at certain points in the game, but there’s certainly more than enough of Toro for it to tick the boxes of Toro fans everywhere.

Beloved features like Matador Free Spins and Toro Goes Wild are back and as brilliant as ever, but just once, another bovine takes centre stage when you get to the bonus round.

In Free Spins you’ll momentarily forget about the confident Toro as you turn your attention to landing scatters in an attempt to flood the reels with the highest paying symbol in the game, and in the Super Bonus, Rampage Reels ups the excitement by exponential proportions.

The Super Bonus can land naturally too, unlike some other ELK slots. Previously many of their games were much less viable for UK players, but in this instance, everybody has a chance.

In terms of potential, Buffalo Toro looks next level crazy with up to 50,000x up for grabs, but can it pull it off? That remains to be seen. ELK Studios slots have put their money where their mouth is before, so there’s no reason to belive that Buffalo Toro is any exception.
