Pragmatic Play partner Reel Kingdom is back with another exciting sequel to their beloved Floating Dragon slot in Megaways fashion, in Floating Dragon Megaways!

Reel Kingdom is utilising their famous Hold & Spin mechanice once more, which has made an appearance in the original Floating Dragon and other titles such as Rock Vegas, Little Gem and Hot to Burn before this.

Fans of the original will notice that not much has changed in terms of design, the background is still as peaceful as before with beautiful blossom trees on either side and the odd floating petal drifting past the reel set.

There has however been some big changes to the reel set itself and given the fact that this new version is a Megaways slot, it was to be expected.

Floating Dragon Megaways Base Game and Features

Floating Dragon Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 147,456 ways to win. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€250 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Floating Dragon Megaways has a theoretical RTP of 96.70% and a maximum win capacity of 20,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Floating Dragon Megaways is the Boat, followed by the Peacock, Butterfly, Kite and Fish. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten. There is also a Wild symbol present on the top sliding reel which substitutes for all other symbols except Scatters, Lady and Coin symbols.

Floating Dragon Megaways features Cascading Reels. Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will be removed from the reels and all remaining symbols will drop to the bottom and new symbols will fall down via a Casacde, filling all the empty spaces and possibly creating even more winning combinations.

In addition to this, Floating Dragon Megaways has not 1 but 3 additional Sliding Reels in place above the reel set. With each base game spin, certain sliding reels can become locked and this changes with every paid spin. The bottom and middle sliding reels are equipped with all symbols including special symbols, however the top sliding reel only reveals Wild symbols.

Fish Money Symbols

Every so often in the base game, you will come across a series of Fish symbols. This particular symbol also appears in the Free Spins round.

All fish symbols will land with a random Cash Value between 2x and 5,000x your current bet which only becomes active during the Free Spins round.

During the base game, the Fish symbols will disappear and cascade normally, but in Free Spins they do not disappear and drop down to the bottom of the reels as cascades occur.

Mystery Symbols

During both the base game and Free Spins round, Mystery symbols in the form of Lanterns can randomly appear across the reel set.

In the base game, all present mystery symbols will reveal the same High or Low-paying symbol. During Free Spins, if a spin only contains Lady symbols and no Fish are present, mystery symbols can randomly appear and will transform into any other symbols.

Floating Dragon Megaways Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatters across the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15, 20 and 25 Free Spins respectively.

Here the Lady symbol will come into play, appearing on all reels except the top sliding reel. During Free Spins, all Lady symbols that land in view will be collected and stored on a Meter.

Every 4th Lady symbol that is collected will award a Retrigger of +10 Free Spins and a Multiplier for all collected Fish symbols. The first retrigger awards a x2 Multiplier, followed by a x3 Multiplier for the second retrigger and a x10 Multiplier for the third. Every retrigger after the third awards +10 Free Spins and a +x10 Multiplier, without any limit.

At the end of a spin, when a Lady symbol is present on the reels with no Fish symbols, the Dragon on the left side of the reel set will jump onto the reels and clear the entire reel set of symbols, leaving only Lady symbols behind. Once this happens, a certain amount of Fish symbols can land across the reels in random positions.

Hold & Spin Bonus

Landing 3 or more Coin symbols across the reels triggers the Hold & Spin Bonus round, awarding 3 Respins.

At the start of the Hold & Spin round, all triggering Coin symbols will remain in their positions for the duration of the Hold & Spin round and all other positions will become blank. Each Coin symbol is equipped with a Cash value between 1x and 2,000x your current bet which is then added to your total win pot at the bottom of the reel set.

Each time a new Coin symbol lands on the main reel set it will become sticky and its Cash Value along with all other Coin symbols on the reel set will be collected again, refilling the Respins Meter back to 3. If a Coin symbol lands in one of the unlocked Sliding Reels, its Cash Value will be collected but it does not remain in its current position.

If a Diamond symbol appears on the reels, it will automatically award a random Cash Value between 50x and 2,000x your current bet. The Hold & Spin round has a safety net in place. If by the end of the Respins round your total win is not 20x or more, you will be awarded an additional +3 Respins.

Floating Dragon Megaways: Our Verdict

When we look at sequels to games that have left quite an impression on us, it’s hard not to have certain high expectations, but has Floating Dragon Megaways lived up to those?

Although Floating Dragon and Floating Dragon Megaways are identical cosmetically, there’s been some developments in the gameplay deparment and not just through the Megaways mechanic.

More often that not, Megaways slots tend to have an additional sliding reel above the main reel set and it seems that Reel Kingdom has chosen to go that little further and throw 3 in for good measure. This is all well good but there is a slight catch being that they’re not always unlocked during the base game, which changes with every paid spin.

Keeping us on our toes, Floating Dragon Megaways has not 1 but 2 Bonus rounds up for grabs. Here you will be able to enjoy a rather familiar and enjoyable Free Spins round similar to that of Big Bass Bonanza, along with Reel Kingdom’s famous Hold & Spin feature round.

The Hold & Spin round plays in a similar fashion to the original, only this time Reel Kingdom has upped the ante by adding a Diamond symbol that can deliver a cash value between 50x and 2,000x your current bet.

Overall, Floating Dragon Megaways is a nice change of pace and an interesting instalment, but you may find it unconvincing compared to other Megaways titles.
