Golden Glyph 2 Slot Review

Quickspin have rightly said that every great game deserves a sequel, and so Golden Glyph 2 was born.

Living by their own words, Quickspin are pulling out the bag an anticipated sequel to the original game as we return to ancient Egypt to channel our inner explorer once again.

The land of the Pharaohs are rich, and there’s treasure to be had once again as we return for a second helping.

Let’s revisit the original game to remind ourselves of the captivating title.

The original Golden Glyph game was a stunning game that was abundant with features, set upon a 7×7 grid with tumble mechanics, Power Wild Features and Power Up Features.

The Golden Scarab Power Up spread Wilds on the reels, spawning 4-10 for some explosive win combinations, and the Eye of Horus Power up removed low paying symbols, giving you potential to hit on those higher paying symbols.

That wasn’t all though, the Blaze of Fire Power up burned all normal symbols that got in its way, and all together it just made for some highly entertaining gameplay that was rich with potential.

Golden Glyph was the first time Quickspin utilised the Cluster Pays mechanic, and it certainly made a lasting impression among players.

Can Golden Glyph 2 show the same promise that made the first so popular? Let’s find out.

Golden Glyph 2 Theme

The theme and design for Golden Glyph 2 will undoubtedly evoke memories of the original with its Egyptian setting and grid style format, but if anything the background for the original caught the eye more than this one does.

In Golden Glyph 2 we’ve lost backdrop that depicted a vast Egyptian city with the Pyramids in the background in favour of a solitary explorer gazing quizzically upon a wonderous Egyptian Structure.

The theme may not be as graphically interesting as the first one was, but secrets and riches await inside this ancient marvel, and the gameplay is where it matters most after all.

Golden Glyph 2 Betting and Symbols

Quickspin always cater to the masses with betting options that cater to every type of player, and Golden Glyph 2 is no different.

The lowest option here is £/€0.20 per spin, and the highest option is £/€100 per spin. In between the two there are also plenty of different other options.

When it comes to symbols, the game splits them up between high paying and low paying symbols. The highest paying symbol in the game is the Ra Symbol, followed by the Green and Blue Pharaoh. Low paying symbols are the Snake, Ankh, Eye and Wave Symbols.

Golden Glyph 2: The Base Game and Features

Golden Glyph 2 is a 7×7 Grid Slot as its predecessor was. In order to form a win, you’ll need a cluster of at least 5 symbols to connect to each other either horizontally or vertically.

It also features Tumbling Reels. This means that symbols within a winning cluster are removed and other symbols then drop down to fill the area. This feature continues until there are no more winning combinations.

Tumbling Reels and grid style gameplay isn’t enough on its own to make a captivating and potential rich game. Thankfully, Golden Glyph 2 has a number of different features to up both the excitement and the potential

Power Glyph

The Power Glyph symbol is an orb that may land within both the Base Game and the Golden Free Spins. When wins occur, a Power Glyph is left in one of the winning locations. If the Power Glyph is then included in a win, then Power Up Features are awarded.

Power Up Features

On each Spin, 7 potential Power Up Features are present below the reels.

In the Base Game, the last feature is a Gigantic Wild. This spawns a huge Wild to a random position within the play area.

In the Free Spins, the last feature is the Golden Free Spins Bonus.

The first 6 power ups are random features.

  • Golden Scarabs – 4-11 Wilds are added to the play area
  • Patterns of Horus – The Patterns of Horus feature chooses between a Cross, Ankh, Bird, Eye, Hourglass or Snake shape to remove symbols from play.
  • Golden Glyph Wild – This one is only available in the Free Spins. The Golden Glyph Will award up to 4 Golden Glyph Wilds, or an extra spin if 4 already exist.

Golden Free Spins

To land the Golden Free Spins, you’ll need at least 3 Scatter Symbols. 7 Spins are awarded.

3 Bonus Scatters within the Free Spins award an extra 5 Spins.

A Golden Glyph Wild will be awarded on the First Spin, and it will stay for the duration of the round. This moves randomly to another location on each spins, and it’ll get a multiplier of +1 for every win its involved in. The maximum multiplier is 50x for a Golden Glyph Wild.

If two multipliers are a part of a win, then their multipliers will combine to form a sum total, and the win will be multiplied by the total amount.

Power up features and Multiplier Golden Glyph Wilds are what you want in this feature to get those big wins.

Golden Glyph 2 Free Spins

Bonus Buy

Golden Glyph 2 has a Bonus Buy option for those outside of the UK. Here, you can choose from 3 options.

  • Start the game with 1 Golden Glyph Wild – 50x
  • Start the game with 2 Golden Glyph Wilds – 150x
  • Start the game with 3 Golden Glyph Wilds – 275x

The RTP configuration will change between the options. These are 96.30%, 96.49% and 96.60% respectively.

Golden Glyph 2: Our Verdict

Golden Glyph 2 certainly builds upon the first game with more action packed features than ever before, making it a worthy successor.

In this game, you need not rely on getting the Free Spins from the Power Up feature. Scatters have been substituted in its place, which we think is a better option.

The Base Game and the Power Up Features are exciting enough on their own, but the Free Spins is definitely needed to get your heart racing. Up to 4 Multipliers moving around at once and combining to make a total multiplier can result in some colossal wins, and its because of this that Golden Glyph 2 is capable of wins of up to 29,500x.

Things look okay on the RTP front too with a figure of 96.09%. As mentioned, this will vary if you choose to buy the bonus instead.

Overall, it does feel like Golden Glyph 2 does the original game justice. It may not be the most exhilarating Cluster Pays Grid Slot that ever was, but it’s got enough of the right stuff to make it a very viable choice for those with an affinity for these types of games.
