We’re in for a sweet treat in Play’n GO’s latest release which sees the return of Candy, the sweetest little Witch, in Sweet Alchemy 2!

Everyone’s favourite Candy Crush equivalent is back for a second time in Sweet Alchemy 2. If you’ve played Candy Crush before, you will know just how frustrating the spawning chocolate levels are, and Sweet Alchemy 2 has something similar going on.

We can all appreciate a fancy new slot from a popular Provider, but we definitely have a soft spot for a sequel. When a particular slot gets the sequel treatment, there is so much riding on it to be bigger and better than the one before it, but has Play’n GO done Sweet Alchemy justice the second time around?

Quality graphics and a mesmerizing background make Sweet Alchemy 2 stand out from the original, and even Candy herself has been given a new wardrobe. Sweet Alchemy 2 is a sequel so of course there are going to be a few similarities.

Sweet Alchemy 2 Base Game and Features

Sweet Alchemy 2 is a 9×9 Video Slot with a Cluster Pays mechanic. Winning combinations are formed when 4 or more of the same symbol land in a cluster, either Horizontally or Vertically across the grid.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a maximum win capacity of 10,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Yellow Sweet, followed by the Red, Pale Pink, and Deep Pink Sweets. Low-paying symbols fall to the Square, Oval, Triangular, and Circular Sweets.

Gobstopper and Striped Wilds can also appear on the grid, both substituting for all High and Low-paying symbols in the paytable. Gobstopper Wilds will land with up to 5 Lives, and Striped Wilds will remove an entire row and column when used as part of a win.

Each time a winning cluster forms, all winning symbols will be removed from the grid and new symbols will fall down via a Cascade, with the possibility of forming more winning clusters.

Once winning clusters are removed, an equal number of Chocolate Blocks will be wiped out. The grid becomes larger and more High and Low-paying symbols will land on the next Cascade. Chocolate Blocks will reset with the next paid base game spin.

Sweet Alchemy 2 Free Spins

Clearing the entire grid of Chocolate Blocks will automatically trigger the Free Spins round, awarding 4 Free Spins. During this time, special 2×2 Mega symbols become available.

During Free Spins, Chocolate Blocks are in play, and ridding the entire grid of them will award an additional +4 Free Spins, and increase the size of the Mega symbols.

The first retrigger will increase the Mega symbols to 3×3, and the second will increase the Mega symbols to 4×4 in size. During the Free Spins round, you can be awarded up to 12 Free Spins in total. 

Also available in Free Spins is a special Bonus Collection Meter that sits outside the grid. Collecting the required number of a certain symbol from the paytable will trigger a special Bonus game. The more potions that are created, the more Bonus Spins you will receive.

At the end of Free Spins, the Bonus game will play out, and a special coloured Wheel with individual Multiplier segments between x2 and x25 will appear. The Multiplier won is used to boost your total win from the Free Spins round.

Sweet Alchemy 2: Our Verdict

Play’n GO’s Sweet Alchemy 2 is definitely a dentist’s worst nightmare, but was it ours? When comparing both Sweet Alchemy titles, Sweet Alchemy 2 is a huge improvement of the original and gets a big thumbs up from us.

Play’n GO has done well to shine Sweet Alchemy 2 in its own light at the same time as keeping it similar to the original, but what did we really think of gameplay?

The base game is one of those where you can just sit back, relax and let it do its thing. Excitement doesn’t really kick in until the Free Spins round, which is made a little easier to trigger thanks to the Striped Wilds that can wipe out entire rows and columns.

Instead of relying on symbol collection to trigger Free Spins, here you will need to wipe out all those irritating chocolate blocks to get in on the action, quite like a brutal level of Candy Crush.

Play’n GO hasn’t entirely scrapped the symbol collection feature which is found in Free Spins. Collecting a certain number of specific symbols during this time will unlock the Multiplier Bonus Wheel, where you can bag yourselves a massive x25 Multiplier that is applied to your total win for the round.

During testing, the wins weren’t monumental in Free Spins, and to get anywhere near the max win cap of 10,000x will require the help of the Multiplier Bonus Wheel for sure, but it’s not always guaranteed to trigger.

All in all, Sweet Alchemy 2 is a deliciously colourful slot with exciting gameplay and a promising amount of potential. If you appreciated the original Sweet Alchemy, you’re going to love what Play’n GO has done with the sequal!
