Microgaming partner, Gameburger Studios has us all a little starry eyed in their newest release, Hyper Star!

Hyper Star is not the first ‘Hyper slot from Gameburger Studios and it probably wont be the last, with Hyper Strike and Hyper Gold. Hyper Star has all of the glitz and glam to grab your attention from the start, but does it have all of the right stuff to keep you there?

We’ll be honest and say that the Hyer Series thus far has been average at best. There were no real stand out features that made the Hyper Series stick out as a go to slot for anyone, but can Hyer Star change that? There’s certainly a couple of features in this one that makes it different from the rest of the bunch, but they’re not exactly the most innovative features in the world.

Hyper Star Betting and Symbols

Hyper Star has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available is £/€0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet available is £/€40 per spin, with plenty of betting options in between the two.

The highest paying regular symbol in Hyper Star is the 7’s, followed by the Dollar Sign, the Bell, Poker Chips, Dice and Cherries. Lower paying symbols are standard Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs.

Wild symbols substitute for all symbols except Scatters. Wilds only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Hyper Star Base Game and Features

Hyper Star is a 5 reel slot with 243 ways to win. To form a win you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbols from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

Hyper Star features Cascading Reels. Symbols that form a winning combination will disappear from the reels and new symbols will cascade in their place, filling all the gaps. New symbols that cascade down have the potential to create more wins in that single spin.

Not only are we lucky enough to see Cascading reels in a slot game that doesn’t use a Megaways mechanic but Gameburger Studios has also included a Jackpot or two, and a Multiplier feature!

Multiplier Trail

Below the reels sits the Multiplier Trail. The Multiplier Trail consists of 4 individual Multipliers, x1, x2, x3 and x5.

During any spin, each time a winning combination is formed, the Multiplier will progress up the Trail. If winning combinations continue for that one spin with the help of Cascades, the Multiplier will continue to climb the Multiplier Trail.

If no more winning combinations are formed during that spin, the Multiplier Trail will reset back to x1.

During Free Spins, the Multipliers on the Multiplier Trail increase to x3, x6, x9 and x15.

Jackpots

Situated on the left side of the screen is 3 individual amounts, these are the Jackpots that are up for grabs!

• Minor – Awards 15x your total bet.
• Major – Awards 100x your total bet.
• Grand – Awards 5,000x your total bet.

Unlocking these Jackpots requires the help of Wild symbols.  All Wild symbols that land on the reels are collected.

The more Wilds that are collected, the higher the chance of triggering the Jackpots. If you’re lucky enough to trigger it, You will be taken to a Wheel where 1 of the 3 Jackpots will be awarded.

Hyper Star Free Spins

Landing 3 Scatters on any of the reels, awards 8 Free Spins, up to a possible 32 with each way triggered.

Once Free Spins are triggered, the Multiplier Trail will upgrade its Multipliers to x3, x6, x9 and x15.

During Free Spins, with each winning combination for that spin, the Multiplier will advance.

If no more winning combinations are formed during that one spin, the Multiplier will automatically reset back to x3.

Landing additional Scatters will award extra Free Spins.

Hyper Star Our Verdict

Hyper Star may not be the most impressive title to ever grace our screens, but we think there’s still definitely a place in the industry for slots like this that take a more classic approach.

It’s almost heartwarming in a way, games these days are leaps and bounds from what classic slotters know and love, and every know and then something like Hyper Star just takes you back to your roots with sprinkle of nostalgia and a touch of innovation with a few modern features thrown in.

Hyper Star can certainly perform well in the Base Game with its 243 ways to win, cascading reels and a multiplier trail, and the potential is heightened significantly in Free Spins with upgraded multiplier values. Jackpots will undoubtedly be the star of the show in this one, and while the Grand may always seem just out of reach, the presence of it alone is enough to make Hyper Star an exciting prospect for classic players and dreamers alike.

Overall, Hyper Star doesn’t have all of the innovation that some are looking for, but if you’ve got an affinity for classic gameplay like we do, then you’ll appreciate what Hyper Star has to offer.
