Rainbow Gold Slot Review 2022

We’ve been given the opportunity to get our hands on a Leprechaun’s most prized possession, in Pragmatic Play’s latest release, Rainbow Gold!

Pragmatic Play are the provider to watch out for when it comes to new releases, with each release having something different to bring to the table. Gates of Valhalla and Might of Ra are shining examples of the kind of tricks Pragmatic Play has up their sleeve.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, Rainbow Gold has a particularly common theme involving a little bearded man dressed in a green suit, with a very impressive top hat. Irish inspired themes are extremely common with Providers, it may feel like a safe option for them, but it’s certainly not unique.

Rainbow Gold does have a very enchanting background that represents a Fairy Garden with beautiful green scenery, mushrooms and pots of Gold. Will gameplay offer up something as magical as this? Let’s play on and find out!

Rainbow Gold Base Game and Features

Rainbow Gold is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a win, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbols from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

Rainbow Gold has a very exciting Top Tracker Prize Collection feature along with an Ante Bet option. It’s not the first time we’ve encountered a feature similar to the Top Tracker Prize Collection and it probably won’t be the last. More on these features below.

Top Tracker Prize Collection

Situated above the reels is an additional reel set called a Tracker. The Tracker is a unique reel with 5 individual Prizes available. With each paid spin, the Tracker will move on position to the left, revealing a new Prize on the right-most position.

In order to win yourself one of the corresponding Prizes, you will need to land a Leprechaun symbol on 1 or more of the reels below.

The following Prizes can appear on the on the Tracker reel.

  • A random Cash Prize between 2x and 100x your total bet.
  • An All In View prize that awards all the prizes currently on the Tracker reel.
  • A Super Spins prize that automatically awards the Free Spins round. The Super Spins prize awards a random amount of reel sets, between 1 and 4 that will be unlocked for the Free Spins round.

All prizes on the Tracker are saved per bet and returning to a previous stake will load the last saved Tracker state.

Ante Bet

Before you start playing, you have the option to activate the Ante Bet feature.

Activating this feature will cost you an extra 25% onto your current bet.

When the Ante Bet feature is active, the chance of landing Leprechaun symbols is increased, meaning you have a higher chance of receiving the Tracker Prizes.

Rainbow Gold Super Spins

The Super Spins round can only be awarded by landing a Leprechaun symbol under the reel with the Super Spins prize on the Tracker.

The Super Spins round is played on up to four 3×5 individual Matrices.  Once the Super Spins round has been awarded, the round will start with a number of Matrices unlocked. The number of Matrices you start the round with is determined by the initial trigger from the Tracker.

Each awarded Matrice will come equipped with its own Tracker reel, which works the same way it does in the base game. Landing a Leprechaun symbol on 1 or more of the reels, awards the corresponding Prize on the Tracker reel.

The Prizes in the Super Spins round are pretty much the same to the base game, with a slight difference.

  • A random Cash Prize between 2x and 500x your total bet.
  • An All in View prize that awards all the current Prizes on the Tracker, from the Matrix it landed on.
  • An extra Free Spins symbol that awards +2, +3 or +5 Free Spins randomly to the current round.
  • A Rainbow Boost prize that can unlock one of the locked Matrices.

If the maximum win capacity of 5,000x is reached, the Super Spins round will end and all remaining Free Spins will be forfeited.

Rainbow Gold: Our Verdict

Rainbow Gold feels like a bit of a safe play from Pragmatic Play, and the typical 5,000x win potential does little to grab our attention seeing as it’s exactly the same as 99% of their portfolio.

At this point it’s a bit dull, but it’s not just Pragmatic’s fault. If we’re to lay the blame for the oversaturated use of Irish luck in the world of slots then we’d need to point the finger at just about every provider. Is it a right of passage for slot providers to have at least one in their portfolio? or is it seriously that much of a cash cow for providers that it’d be silly not to make one?

We’re not quite sure, but we will say that the Irish theme holds a special place our hearts, despite how it sounds, but you just really can’t give the provider any points at all for originality when they do introduce this type of game to the world.

Concept aside, Rainbow Gold does a few things better than Bounty Gold did. Both may have generic themes, but Rainbow Gold has a solid graphical fidelity when compared to the older Western rendition, and there’s even some extra bells and whistles too.

Bounty Gold has Base Game features, of which Bounty Gold was devoid of, so it’s at least more interesting to spin in comparison.

Overall, Rainbow Gold didn’t impress us much. While we’re sure that it’s capable of some stand out moments, we’re not entirely convinced that many will stick around to witness them.
