Print Studios continue to chase ideas that resist familiarity. Holy Hand Grenade, Out of the Ice, their Plinko series and others in their catalogue show their drive to explore different themes and structures, and this release pushes further into that territory.
Deck of Scurra showcases a very interesting setting that grows more intriguing the longer you stay at the table. It’s a bit of a bewildering theme, as Tarasque was, seemingly of a fantasy nature. We feel like Print Studios would be excellent video game developers were they not slot developers. Their ability to create interesting worlds of themes is second to none.

Base Game & Features
Unlike a traditional slot format, Deck of Scurra starts each spin with 5 reels & 3 rows of playing cards, entwined in 243 ways to win. Winning combinations are created when 3-5 matching card types land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1.
The highest-paying symbol falls to the Queen of Desire, followed by the Queens of War, Nature, & Minds. Additionally, the 4 lowest-paying symbols are represented by Heartroot, Spear, Clover, & Jewel icons. After a win is awarded, a fixed payout between 0.2x and 5x your bet is applied.
There are currently no Wild symbols available in this game; however, each winning combination is removed from the reels via an Avalanche Feature. This allows all empty positions to be filled with new cards, for a chance to create further wins in the same spin. Lastly, Jester Cards are removed from play & placed outside the game area.
Cards
As each session progresses, special achievements can be found in the tab above the Bonus Buy options, similar to the Holy Deeds found in Holy Hand Grenade 2. When a win falls between 100x and 20,000x your bet, an upgraded Card Backing is unlocked, of which there are 8 in total.

Alteration Cards
Below each high or low-paying symbol card, there may be 1 or more Alteration Cards lying face down beneath it. Once a winning combination is created and the cards are removed from play, all revealed Alteration Cards are collected to one side.
Once the reels have settled and all wins are paid out, each collected Alteration Card is applied to the current selection of cards, followed by a final win evaluation. Each Alteration Card awards the following outcomes:
- Coronation Cards: Applies to the matching low-paying symbol of its kind, upgrading it to a random High-paying card symbol.
- Lunar Cards: Symbols matching the icon stored below the Lunar Card will transform into the same suit at the top of the Lunar Card. Blue Lunar Cards transform one symbol suit, while Purple Lunar Cards transform all symbol suits.
- Crow Cards: Standard Crow Cards award 1-8 instances of itself at random, adding +1 symbol cards to its matching icons at the top. A Golden Crow Card doubles all visible numbers on available symbol cards. During a win payout, each number on the card symbol represents copies of the same card, increasing the total number of ways to win.
Evolving Deck Bonus
Jester Cards are responsible for triggering the Evolving Deck Bonus. During gameplay, Jester Cards are put to the side of the play area, freeing up space for new card symbols to drop in. When 3 or more Jester Cards are collected, the Evolving Deck Bonus triggers, awarding one of the following outcomes:
- 3 Jester Cards: Awards 5 Free Spins + a deck upgrade of 6 Card Symbols & 3 Alteration Cards
- 4 Jester Cards: Awards 7 Free Spins + a deck upgrade of 9 Card Symbols & 6 Alteration Cards
- 5 Jester Cards: Awards 9 Free Spins + a deck upgrade of 12 Card Symbols & 9 Alteration cards
During this mode, Card symbols are recycled between spins, while all Alteration Cards persist until the end of the feature. Finally, each Jester Card that appears in view will award an additional +1 Free Spin.

Our Honest Verdict
Deck of Scurra shows how much Print Studios enjoys creating slots that feel different. The gameplay immediately gives players something to think about, with mechanics that let card effects take the lead.
It takes a moment to understand how it works, yet once it clicks, the flow of upgrades and symbol changes becomes a real driver of excitement. It keeps you focused on what might unfold next, which could be Coronation Cards upgrading matching low symbols into high ones, Lunar Cards transforming suits based on their stored icons, or Crow Cards stacking extra symbol copies to increase the total ways to win during payouts.
Free Spins raise the stakes further, as card features stay in play and can scale up. Progress and potential feel tightly linked, and the slot feels unbelievably fresh, which is saying something, because Print Studios slots always are
Deck of Scurra, and as usual, Print Studios, has the confidence to be bold. It has layers to it that few have – the learning curve is a commitment that many are unwilling to go through with their games, as seen in some of their gamified slots, but their commitment to making those thoughtful games is unwavering.
