After the roaring success of both Gates of Olympus & Sweet Bonanza, Pragmatic Play found a way to manipulate its high-performing features & mechanics into an Anime-themed release named Starlight Princess in 2021.
Starlight Princess 1000 transformed the popular debut release into an iconic sequel, quickly upgraded to a series with the release of Starlight Princess Pachi in 2023. After several upgrades & fine-tuning, we find ourselves in the presence of Starlight Princess Super Scatter, but is it the full package?
This game marks the third instalment to join the ‘Super Scatter’ franchise, after Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter and Gates of Olympus Super Scatter. Players can enjoy all their favourite elements from previous releases, with the addition of a Super Scatter Bonus & a sizable 50,000x max win potential.
Possessing a new wardrobe for the occasion, our floating Princess maintains her position on the outside of the reel set, wand in hand, ready to fuel the reels with epic Multipliers. Otherwise, this version closely resembles the same aesthetics as previous instalments.

Base Game & Features
Starlight Princess Super Scatter is a 6-reel, 5-row video slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic. Winning combinations are configured on the grid when 8-30 matching symbols appear on any cell position, regardless of which reel they appear on.
The highest-paying symbol falls to the Sun, followed by the Heart, Moon, Star, and a variety of Gems. Once a winning combination has been confirmed on the grid, a fixed payout between 0.25x and 50x your bet is awarded.
Due to the nature of gameplay, there are no Wild symbols available in the paytable; however, a special Avalanche Feature triggers each time a winning combination is apparent on the grid. The Avalanche Feature destroys all winning symbols, creating room for new ones to drop in from above.
Win Multipliers
During each spin in the base game or Free Spins mode, up to 4 Multiplier symbols can appear on the grid, awarding a random value between x2 and x500. Once the grid has settled, the value of all Multiplier symbols is applied to the total win of the spin, and then paid out.
Super Scatters
In addition to regular Scatter symbols, special Super Scatters can cover any cell position on the grid. When a combination of 4 or more Scatter/Super Scatter symbols appears on the same spin, the following payouts are awarded:
- 1 of 4 Super Scatters: Pays 100x your bet
- 2 of 4 Super Scatters: Pays 500x your bet
- 3 of 4 Super Scatters: Pays 5,000x your bet
- 4 of 4 Super Scatters: Pays 50,000x your bet
Starlight Princess Super Scatter: Free Spins
The Free Spins mode triggers when 4 or more Scatter/Super Scatters land anywhere in the base game, awarding 15 Free Spins.
In either Free Spins mode, each Multiplier symbol that appears in view has its current value added to the Total Multiplier. Every time a new Multiplier symbol appears, it activates the Total Multiplier, including the new Multiplier that triggered it.
When 3 or more Scatters appear in the same spin, an additional +5 Free Spins is awarded. Please note that Super Scatters are unavailable throughout spins during this mode.
Ante Bet & Bonus Buy
Players may purchase any of the following Ante Bet & Bonus Buy options:
- Ante Bet: Doubles your chance of triggering the Free Spins feature for 1.5x your bet per spin (96.55%)
- Free Spins: Direct access to the standard Free Spins mode for 100x your bet (96.5%)
- Super Free Spins: Instantly triggers the Super Free Spins mode with a minimum Multiplier of x10 for 500x your bet (96.49%)
The maximum win potential of Starlight Princess Super Scatter is 50,000x your bet. If a single session meets the requirements, the current mode ends, and the player returns to the base game with the qualifying amount.
Our Honest Verdict
It’s great to see our much-loved Kawaii Princess back where she belongs, ruling over the reels and making all our wishes come true, but besides a new wardrobe, what other magic does she possess?
As is the case in previous ‘Super Scatter’ releases, Starlight Princess has received quite the boost in max win potential, along with the inclusion of Super Scatters that grant players another access point to the max win potential, among other things.
It’s no secret that Pragmatic Play enjoys toying with pre-loved features & mechanics, bending them to their will so that they can be considered ‘new’ in yet another release. A true representation of this is the ongoing ‘1000’ series of games, which branch off from the original Sugar Rush & Gates of Olympus instalments.
If you’ve been following on for some time, you’ll know it’s not our first experience with the ‘Super Scatter’ format, and given Pragmatic Play’s track record, we’re pretty certain it won’t be our last either.
Gates of Olympus was the first to test the waters of this feature, swiftly followed by Sweet Bonanza, and now our beloved Starlight Princess, but is it really worth all the fuss? At first, it was, but with nothing new to report, it’s beginning to lose its shine.
The game’s only saving grace is the rather generous 50,000x max win potential, but again, this is nothing new when comparing it to the previous ‘Super Scatter’ instalments. All in all, Starlight Princess Super Scatter is a great continuation of a much-loved series, but our excitement for such features & mechanics is beginning to wear thin.
