Today marks a momentous milestone for DreamSpin as Buzz Thrill Releases on Sky Vegas!

After 2 years of concepts, development and anticipation, Buzz Thrill is ready to lift off.

DreamSpin is the first-ever studio founded by slot streamers, bringing together Fruity Slots founders Josh Green and Jamie Rosen with Hideous Slots’ own William Barnes.

Years in the making, it’s the product of people passionate about slots with a community that helped them understand what players love. The idea of creating their own studio was once a dream, and the reality of it is quite profound on the day of its launch.

An Interview With William Barnes

Derek Montague, slot journalist at Fruity Slots caught up with Will to talk about the journey so far to find out more about DreamSpins journey.

You and the crew at Fruity Slots started out as slot streamers. That’s your bread and butter. Can you describe how the idea of starting an actual online slot producer was formed?
As passionate slot enthusiasts, we felt we had a deep understanding of what players wanted, and we saw an exciting opportunity to create something new in the market. Streaming had given us great insights into player preferences, and we believed we were capable of taking that knowledge into game production. We were ready for a new challenge and eager to push the boundaries of what we could achieve by developing slots that we knew our audience would love.

How long has your first game been in the making? Can you describe the process and the effort that went into making this dream a reality?
The concept for Buzzthrill was first discussed around two years ago. Initially, we built a prototype just to prove that we could make a quality game, but as we dove deeper, we realized the potential for something special. Throughout the process, there’s been a steep learning curve, especially in understanding the mathematical structure that underpins the gameplay, but the personal effort and commitment from all three of us, including countless late nights, has truly transformed this dream into reality.

How did the Fruity Slots-Hideous Slots partnership form? How did you guys meet and become friends?
Our paths first crossed in 2019 at an affiliate conference in London, and we quickly hit it off. At the time, we were all heavily involved in streaming, focusing on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. As time went on, Josh and Jamie became more involved in Hideous Slots, and it felt like a natural progression to work together on new projects. Now, we’re fully engaged across both businesses, complementing each other’s strengths.

What has been the biggest challenge or hurdle in getting the game ready for launch? 
The biggest challenge has been balancing creative development with the technical requirements needed to meet industry standards. While building a demo that looks great is one thing, ensuring the final product meets the complex regulations for different territories worldwide is another. Retrofitting those adjustments after development is never easy, but it’s all part of delivering a robust, global-ready game.

Please describe the game theme and mechanics.
Buzzthrill brings together our love of creative storytelling with exciting game mechanics. It features five quirky bees, each with their own personality, set against the backdrop of outer space. Buzz, our main character, pops in to help players by revealing wilds or instant prizes, and in the bonus rounds, things really ramp up with a unique Honey Gun mechanic that introduces Symbol Expansions and Instant Prize Expansions. The feedback we’ve had from our community on Discord has been fantastic, and we’re really proud of the final product.

Finally, how does it feel being on the eve of launch after 2 years of hard work?
It’s incredibly rewarding to be on the cusp of launching Buzzthrill after years of hard work. Seeing everything come together is both exciting and humbling, and we couldn’t be prouder of the result. The positive feedback we’ve already received from our community has made all the effort worthwhile, and we’re eager to see how it performs in the wider market.
