Blueprint Gaming is taking us on a 90’s trip down memory lane in their latest release, 90’s Mania Megaways!

Rubiks Cubes, Tamagotchis, and Gameboys were just a few of the best items that came about in the 90s. There were probably a few of us that were rocking a Groovy Chick-themed bedroom with racks full of CDs to play on our walkmans, and a shelf full of creepy Furbies that seemed to be indestructible.

We look so fondly at the 90s. Looking back on it now it felt like a simpler time, and in many ways it was. Many of us would give anything to go back for a day if we could play with pogs one more time, watch Saved by the Bell, chill with Kenan and Kel and hear our mothers lose their minds when they couldn’t use the phone because we were using the internet.

A truly special time, and to give us our much-needed nostalgia trip comes Blueprint’s newest Megaways game. Will it be as special as the 90s was? Let’s check it out.

 

90’s Mania Megaways Base Game and Features

90’s Mania Megaways is a 6-reel Video Slot with up to 117,649 ways to win. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols (or 2 or more of the highest-paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€10 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 96.43%.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Stereo, followed by the Gameboy, Tamagotchi, and Rubiks Cube. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, and Nine. Wilds appear on the additional sliding reel, substituting for all symbols except Scatters.

Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will be removed from the reels, and new symbols will drop from above via a Cascade. Winning symbols on the additional Sliding Reel will also be removed, and all remaining symbols will slide over toward the leftmost reel position.

Mystery Symbols

During any random spin in both the base game and Free Spins round, a number of Mystery symbols can land across the reels. Once this happens, they will reveal the same High or Low-paying symbol from the paytable, either forming or contributing towards a win.

Landing the cursor on a Green segment will award the relevant number of additional Free Spins, but landing the cursor on a Red segment will either send you back to the base game empty-handed or award a minimum of 8 Free Spins.

During Free Spins, an Unlimited Multiplier is active that begins at x1. Each time a Cascade occurs, the Win Multiplier will increase by +x1. All positions on the Sliding Reel can reveal Scatters that award additional Free Spins. Landing 3 or 4 Scatters during this time will award an additional +5 and +10 Free Spins respectively.

Blueprint Gaming kind of blew it with 90’s Mania Megaways.

While 90’s Mania Megaways undoubtedly offers some entertainment value, it regrettably falls short of being the exceptional 90s-themed slot game we were hoping for. As fans of both the 90s and Blueprint Gaming’s creativity, we can’t help but feel a sense of disappointment. We believe that they possess the talent and imagination to craft a slot that truly captures the excitement of the 90s, but in this instance, they went for a standard Megaways formula.

The 1990s were a remarkable decade, characterized by colourful fashion, iconic music, groundbreaking technology, and an overall sense of hope and exploration. The 90s inspired a generation and left an indelible mark on pop culture. Fans of this era were yearning for a slot game that would transport them back to their fondest memories, evoking the joy and enthusiasm they felt during those years. It seems that they may missed the mark in recreating the true essence of this vibrant and nostalgic era. While the Megaways formula has proven to be successful in many cases, we can’t help but feel that they could have done more to truly capture the essence of the 90s and ignite the same excitement it once brought.

Overall, we were hoping for more in the way of features. It’s not bad if you’re a fan of the classic Megaways formula, but it’s not great if you’re looking to relive the past in an innovative way.
