Cloud Corsairs is the latest slot from Fantasma Games to join the ranks of their other compelling titles, and from sight alone, it looks like it could be the best yet.

It may be too early in the review to start throwing around claims like this, but out of all of the Fantasma Slots so far, Cloud Corsairs does look like something special.

In this title, we’re taken on an exciting trip via a flying vessel towards an island in the sky. Mystery and wonder shroud Cloud Corsairs from the very beginning, and you can’t help but feel the love, care and attention that went into it from the very start.

The closest things to compare Cloud Corsairs to on visuals alone would be Push Gaming’s Land of Zenith, and Thunderkick’s Riders of the Storm. All of them share common traits thematically in one way or another with a golden chic mien or retrofuturistic steampunk vibes, but rest assured that gameplay in Cloud Corsairs is entirely different, and distinctive in its own way.

We’re especially excited to get stuck into this one, and we’re hoping that the gameplay breeds as much excitement as its stunning aesthetic does. Zeppelin Respin, Lightning Mystery, Free Spins and Super Free Spins features certainly seems like it might.

Cloud Corsairs – The Base Game and Features

Cloud Corsairs is a 5 reel slot with 27 fixed pay lines. To form a win, you’ll need at least 3 of any symbol to connect from left to right on adjacent reels along any of the fixed lines. The highest paying symbol is the Zeppelin, Followed by the Red, Purple, Green and Blue Character Symbols, and low-paying symbols are Red, Purple, Green and Blue Gems.

Wins on any of the higher-paying symbols are fairly decent on their own, but they’re not quite enough for substantial wins, which is where some of Cloud Corsair’s special features come in.

Cloud Corsairs Multiplier Reel

The 6th Reel in Cloud Corsairs is the multiplier reel.

On this reel, there are no regular or special symbols, but multipliers instead.

In the Base Game, only the middle position of the Multiplier Reel is active, but in Free Spins, this can expand to include more than one Multiplier for bigger and better hits. When more than one multiplier is active in Free Spins, then the multipliers add up for a sum total.

The Multiplier Reel also plays a crucial role in another of Cloud Corsairs Features, the Zeppelin Respin Feature.

Cloud Corsairs Zeppelin Respin Feature

The Zeppelin Respin Feature is another one of Cloud Corsairs exciting features.

To trigger it, you’ll need to connect a win with at least 3 of the highest paying Zeppelin symbols across any bet line.

Once this feature triggers, all Zeppelin symbols will lock into place, and the reels will respin for a chance to land even more symbols. Newly landed Zeppelin Symbols are also locked in place, and the multiplier reel also spins. Any multipliers within the active position is added to a total multiplier, which continues to accumulate until no more new Zeppelin symbols lands.

Once no more new symbols land, then the win lines are evaluated before being multiplied by the total accumulated multiplier.

In Free Spins, this feature is even more potent since you can have more than one multiplier space open at once.

The total accumulated multiplier has a cap of X50.

Cloud Corsairs Lightning Mystery Feature

Cloud Corsairs sounded exciting enough with the Multiplier Reel and Zeppelin Respin Feature alone, but there’s more to experience yet.

On any Base Game Spin, there’s a chance that the Lightning Mystery Feature will activate.

A random pattern of 6 positions appears as an overlay on the reels for a single spin, and one symbol is picked to fill them (with the exception of Zeppelin Symbols)

After the symbols are placed, then the game spins as normal before calculating a win with the symbols brought on by the Lightning Mystery Feature, and any other matching symbols that may contribute to the win.

Cloud Corsairs – Free Spins

3 Scatter Symbols award 12 Free Spins.

In Free Spins, wins are paid from left to right, and right to left. All Bonus symbols in Free Spins are collected in a meter.

• 4 Bonus Symbols Collected – 4 Additional Free Spins and entry to Level 1. The top Multiplier position on the Multiplier reel is activated
• 9 Bonus Symbols Collected – 4 Additional Free Spins and entry to Level 2 – The bottom Multiplier position on the Multiplier reel is activated
• 15 Bonus Symbols Collected – Super Free Spins are awarded after all normal Free Spins are played out.

During Free Spins, the Zeppelin Respin Feature may also trigger, and as mentioned, the potential is bigger because of the additional multiplier positions.

Super Free Spins takes you to a bonus round whereby only Zeppelin symbols and blank symbols may land.

3 Zeppelin Symbols are placed on the reels and locked at the beginning of Super Free Spins, and 5 Super Free Spins are awarded with all 3 positions on the Multiplier Reel activated.

Zeppelin Symbols lock into place, and Multipliers from the Multiplier Reel accumulate for a total multiplier. When all 4 Free Spins are complete, all wins are evaluated with the total accumulated multiplier.

The accumulated total multiplier has a cap of X50.

Cloud Corsairs – Our Verdict

It was an absolute pleasure to soar high above the clouds with Cloud Corsairs and its enthralling gameplay. Fantasma Games are adept at making something very different, that much is evident not just through Cloud Corsairs, but through their entire catalogue of slots that tries something different.

Cloud Corsairs just gets the formula exactly right with Base Game Features in the form of Respins and Lightning Mystery Features, and the Bonus Round is even more exciting with many of the same features, as well as new ones. At first, the Bonus Round might feel like a tad of a slow burn though.

Pays from Left to Right and Right to Left certainly ups the ante, but it’s secondary to what you really want, which is bonus symbols, and a lot of them.

Cloud Corsairs is laden with potential thanks to the Zeppelin Respin Feature, but you’ll want many bonus symbols to see this ship performing at its best. The extra multiplier spaces are absolutely crucial, and if you can get to the Super Free Spins then you’ll probably experience the same feeling of adventure that we did when we were on board testing it out.

Potential-wise, Cloud Corsairs is capable of a respectable 7,690x your total bet. This is by no means small, but one small gripe is that we’d have liked to see it higher. This could have been easily achieved by not capping the Zeppelin Respin Feature and Super Free Spins multiplier to X50, but never mind.

Overall, Cloud Corsairs is an almost ethereal and immensely exciting from the renowned Fantasma Games. It suffers from very few minor potential-limiting caps, but overall we’re very impressed.
