Drill that Gold Slot Review 2022
Dig out your pickaxe and dust off your helmets, we are diving head first into a mine of endless wealth, in Pragmatic Play’s latest release, Drill that Gold!
Pragmatic Play are keeping us on our toes with yet another new release for 2022. It seems that Pragmatic Play don’t like to keep their players in suspense for too long, pumping out their releases in quick succession. We’ve played alongside Gods in Might of Ra and enjoyed a bit of nostalgia in Snakes and Ladders Megadice, now its time to embrace the dust and darkness for a little mining fun in Drill that Gold.
Pragmatic Play has opted for a Mining theme here in Drill that Gold, which makes sense given the title. It seems that most Providers tend to go for the safe option when it comes to choosing a theme, maybe this is becasue slots like Gold Digger Megaways and Diamond Mine Megaways became really popular, either way, we are just glad that it’s not another Egyptian theme.
To be expected, the background shows a deep and dark Mine that’s lit only by candlelight, with the occassional glisten of Gold nuggets. The one thing that looks slightly terrifying is the spinning drill above the reels, which looks like some kind of death trap that belongs in one of the Saw movies. On the right you will see a Miner holding two cables, keep a close eye on him as he plays a valuable part in the base game.
Are you ready to win big when you strike Gold?

Wilds substitute for all symbols except Scatter symbols.
Drill that Gold Base Game and Features
Drill that Gold is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a win, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbols from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Despite it’s common theme, Drill that Gold has some rather impressive features for players to enjoy. These bring some much needed excitement to an otherwise boring base game. More on these below.
Before you can begin playing, you will be given the option to activate the Ante Bet feature.
Activating this feature will increase your current bet by 25%.
Once the Ante Bet feature is active, all of the Drill symbols will become Golden Drills that are guaranteed to deliver an instant cash award when they appear.
During the base game, whenever a full-Stack of Miner symbols land in view, the entire reel will automatically transform into a Silver Drill symbol.
Once the Silver Drill symbol has expanded and transformed into a Wild, it will award an instant Cash Prize of either 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 75x or 100x.
At the end of each non-winning base game spin, there is a chance of triggering 1 of 2 Spin Modifiers.
- A Modifier that can change the outcome of any non-winning spin to a win of at least 10x your current bet.
- A Modifier that can award 3+ Scatter symbols needed to trigger the Free Spins round.
Drill that Gold Free Spins
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 6, 8 and 10 Free Spins respectively.
Once the Free Spins round is triggered, a new Drill symbol will come into play along with the Gold and Silver Drills. After expanding, the new Drill symbol will transform into a Wild symbol and reveal a random Cash Prize amount.
During the Free Spins round, landing any of the two Drill symbols will award an instant Cash Prize of either 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 200x, 500x or 1,000x.
Each time a stack of Miner symbols are present, the reel will nudge up or down and transform into a stacked Gold or Silver Drill symbol, awarding one of the above Cash Prize values.
Landing 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters during the Free Spins round, awards an additional +4, +6, +8 and +10 Free Spins respectively. If the maximum win capacity of 5,000x is reached, the Free Spins round will end and all remaining Free Spins will be forfeited.
Drill that Gold: Our Verdict
We’ve always had a soft spot for a Mining themed slot, especially since Nolimit City’s Fire in the Hole xBomb, and although Drill that Gold is not quite as good as this, there is still something about it that makes it quite appealing.
The mining theme may be a common one, but we think Pragmatic Play has pulled it off really well, so much so that we were quite suprised when we loaded Drill that Gold up. Granted, the design and graphics aren’t as complex as other slots, but you can appreciate the efforts Pragmatic Play has put into it.
The Ante Bet is a common feature seen numerous times in many of Pragmatic Play’s slots and one that we can really get behind, especially when it gives us the upper hand for a small price. The Drill feature and Spin Modifiers are fun and full of potential, and the instant Cash Prizes aren’t the worst we’ve seen either.
The Free Spins round wasn’t as good as we had hoped, its pretty much identical to the base game with only a few ‘miner’ tweaks. The Drill feature and Spin Modifiers are all in play during this round, but the only difference is the Cash Prize amounts are increased.
In terms of statistics, Pragmatic Play is sticking to their guns with a 5,000x maximum win capacity and an above average RTP of 96.49%, which decreases to 96.45% when you activate the Ante Bet feature.
Overall, though Mining is a physically demanding job we find ourselves digging again and again. Drill that Gold makes the process quite fun, and we’re happy to get our hands dirty in the name of entertaining features like the ones seen here.
