Forge of Gems Slot Review 2022
Put on your safety gear and fire up the furnace, the heat is on as we try to get our hands on the most precious of gems, in Play’n GO’s hottest release, Forge of Gems!
Only the stones forged in the intense heat and force can become the most prized gems, but will Forge of Gems be a sizzling success or one big hot mess? Play’n GO has labelled this the ‘hottest game in town’, with tons of potential and entertainment to be had.
In terms of theme, Forge of Gems looks remarkably similar to another Play’n GO title, Perfect Gems that was released in 2019, only this version is a lot darker and mechanical in design. Play’n GO has blown us away with the amount of detail in the background.
Although it’s quite dark, the background is illuminated by two small furnaces and a giant one behind the reel set. If you listen carefully, you will be able to hear the banging of tools and crackles from the fire. The background may be dimly lit, but the colourful reel frame and gem symbols draw your attention to where it needs to be.
Will Forge of Gems leave a lasting impression, or will we end up getting burned? Let’s play on and find out!

Forge of Gems Base Game and Features
Forge of Gems is a 5 reel slot with 243-36,288 ways to win. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbol type from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Once a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will disappear from the reels and new symbols will drop down via a Cascade from the Forge Reel, filling all empty positions on the reels and possibly creating even more winning combinations.
Forge of Gems has an additional slidiing reel, known as the Forge Reel. The Forge Reel is home to a collection of exciting Modifiers, which play a huge part in the base game. More on this below.
After each winning combination is removed from the reels, the Modifier symbols above the reel set in the Forge Reel will drop down into the empty positions.
Once this happens, the Forge Reel symbols will activate their unique Modifiers.
- Horizontal Wild symbol – Transforms all matching symbols on that row into Wilds.
- Vertical Wild symbol – Transforms all symbols on that reel into Wilds, excluding Scatters.
- Horizontal Split symbol – Splits all matching symbols on that reel, expanding the ways to win.
- Vertical Split symbol – Splits all symbols on that row, excluding Scatters. This symbol also acts as a Wild.
- Multiplier symbol – Increases the Multiplier by +1.
- Block symbol – Has no Modifier. This symbol will be removed during a Cascade.

The Free Spins round cannot be retriggered.
Forge of Gems: Our Verdict
The ‘Gems’ series from Play’n GO were never masterpieces, and Forge of Gems isn’t either. However, it’s not without potential.
At times, Forge of Gems can really show you what it’s made of with features that show their worth in both the base game and Free Spins, and all in all it results in a slot where 20,000x is up for grabs. Play’n GO don’t really put their money where their mouth is that often though. Their maximum caps are more theoretical than anything else, so we’d be very surprised (and apologetic) if Forge of Gems actually managed to pull it off.
With the above considered, you shouldn’t go into Forge of Gems hoping for the maximum win, but don’t be deflated, because there’s still plenty to play for here.
Overall, Forge of Gems is a well constructed title, just like previous ones were, but it’s nothing that’ll knock your socks off.
