You best hope your house is made of sturdier stuff because this menacing wolf is about to blow it all down in Pragmatic Play’s latest release, Greedy Wolf!
Everyone’s favourite bedtime story is back in slot form once again, courtesy of Pragmatic Play. ‘The Three Little Pigs’ is a fable about 3 adorable little piggies who build their own houses made from different materials.
The villain of the story is a menacing big bad wolf who blows down 2/3 houses which are made of straw and sticks, but is unable to blow down the 3rd house which is made of bricks. The story of the three little pigs first printed in the 1840’s, but the story itself is said to be much older.
Greedy Wolf has a lot to live up to thanks to Quickspin’s Big Bad Wolf Megaways, but will it become anywhere near as popular? Time will tell. Greedy Wolf is 5 reel slot with a Greedy Wolf Wild feature, Free Spins and a 3 Little Pigs Respins round which are played out on 20 fixed paylines.
Will your house be the last one standing? Let’s play on and find out!
Greedy Wolf is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 (£/€0.25 Ante Bet) per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 (£/€125 Ante Bet) per spin, with other options in between the two.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Greedy Wolf is the Wolf, followed by 3 Pigs with Green, Blue and Purple backgrounds, a Hammer and Trowel. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack. There is also a Wild symbol present which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.
During the base game on any random spin, one of the following Modifiers can trigger.
At any point in the base game, fully stacked and expanded Wolf symbols can appear on Reel 3.
When this happens, all Pig symbols will transform into the Wolf symbol. All winning combinations will be paid after the transformation occurs.
On any random spin in the base game, a number of Wild symbols will be added to reels 1, 2 or 3. All winning combinations are based on the grid with Wilds present.
Once this happens, the Wolf will either appear and move the Wilds one position to the right, triggering a Respin or blow the Wilds off the reel set and end the feature. Respins will continue until there are no more positions to move the Wilds or if they are blown off the reel set.
During this feature, all winnning combinations will be paid between each Respin.
During any non-winning spin, the Wolf can appear on the screen and blow away all symbols present.
Once this happens, new symbols will fall down from above which will guarantee a win of either 20x your current bet or higher or award enough Scatters needed to trigger the Free Spins round.
Before you begin spinning, you will be given an option to activate the Ante Bet feature.
Choosing to activate the Ante Bet will increase your current bet by 25%. When the Ante Bet is active, you will only need to land 5 Scatters in order to trigger the Free Spins round.
Landing 6 or more Scatters in any position on the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 6 Free Spins.
Once the Free Spins round is active, all present Scatter symbols will be marked with a Straw Frame. Each time a new Scatter symbol lands, it will also be marked with a Straw Frame if it is not already.
If a Scatter symbol lands in an already marked position, it will be upgraded from Straw to Wood, then Brick, then Castle. The Frame markings will remain on the reel set for the duration of Free Spins.
At the end of Free Spins, all marked positions will transform into Houses and the Wolf will come into play. The Wolf will then blow the houses away, revealing random Money values behind each one. The Money values increase depending on the type of house.
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters on the reels during Free Spins, awards an additional +1, +2 or +4 Free Spins respectively. If the maximum win capacity of 3,000x is reached, the round will immediately end and all remaining Free Spins will be forfeited.
Pragmatic Play has done a brilliant job at capturing the story of the 3 little pigs and transforming it into slot form. At first, we weren’t particularly keen on the whole design but this could be down to Quickspin’s Big Bad Wolf Megaways and the popularity that comes with it. Once you start playing though, the design is quickly forgotten about.
Because of Big Bad Wolf Megaways Greedy Wolf has a lot to live up to, but does it do just that? The base game starts off a little slow to begin with and at times Greedy Wolf had us huffing and puffing as we waited for the Free Spins round and features to kick in, but once one appeared the rest seemed to follow.
Free Spins is particularly interesting but not entirely unique, but before you can even get excited about the Free Spins round you first need to land it, which is easier said than done given that you need a minimum of 6 (or 5 if you activate Ante Bet) Scatters. Another low blow is that you only ever start off with 6 Free Spins regardless of how many additional Scatters you land.
In terms of statistics, Greedy Wolf has an above average RTP of 96.48% which increases to 96.51% through the use of Ante Bet, but a slightly disappointing maximum win capacity of 3,000x which is less than Pragmatic Play usually goes for.
All in all, Greedy Wolf has some exciting features and an interesting Free Spins round but if you’re hoping for big wins and heaps of potential, you won’t find much of it here.
