King of the West from Blueprint Gaming returns the player to the tried and true Wild West style slot that continues to captivate many a player, despite its excessive volume within the industry. The Wild West itself may be a bygone era, but the lawless gunslingers are alive and well through slot games everywhere.
King of the West looks to have some exciting aspects to it, so we’re ready to load up the six shooter and strap on the spurs once again as we explore this slot.

King of the West Slot Theme

King of the West is truly a cowboy themed slot through and through with an old Western town, tumbleweeds, canyons and wagon wheels to complete the aesthetic. As popular as these sorts of slots are, it’s hard to get excited about the style of these games when you’re so acclimatised to them.

The music for King of the West is a very slow western tune that serves to build up a sense of anticipation with a feel that a shootout could occur at any moment.

You have to give Blueprint Gaming credit where it’s due, King of the West is very crisp in terms of graphics, and the sound effects are great too. It just feels like you’ve seen this slot a million times before with its western theme.

King of the West: The Base Game and Features

King of the West is a 5 reel game with 20 fixed pay lines. To form a win, you’ll need to connect at least 3 of any symbol anywhere along these paylines.

There are a couple of features at play here that make King of the West both rich in potential and exciting, with the first of which being the Wanted Wilds

Wanted Wilds

During any spin, there is a chance that the Wanted Wilds Feature will be triggered.

A gun will appear with a number of Wilds in each barrel, and it will spin to determine how many wanted Wilds you get. The Wilds will then be added to the reels in random positions

It’s great to see a Base Game Feature with a lot of potential like this, but if you’ve loaded up the game yourself you’ll have undoubtedly noticed the prize symbols at the top of the reels. These prizes go hand in hand with the Bounty Hunter Symbol

Bounty Hunter

During any spin, there is a chance that the Bounty Hunter Scatter Symbol may land on any reel.

If the Bounty Hunter lands, then he’ll trigger the prize that sits above the reel that he’s occupying.

  • Cash Prize
  • Gold Badge: Awards all prizes in view
  • Free Games: Triggers Free Spins
  • Extra Free Games (During Free Spins Only): Triggers Extra Free Spins

A quick glance is all that’s needed to see how great some of the prizes are. There’s even a 10,000x , which would certainly solidify your status as the baddest outlaw around.

King of the West: Free Spins

The Free Spins in King of the West are triggered by landing the Bounty Hunter on the same reel as the Free Games symbol.

Before the round starts, a gun will appear with a number of spins in each barrel, and it will spin to determine how many spins you get.

During the Free Games, the Bounty Hunter is active on every reel and the positions above the reels are enriched with larger values and extra games.

King of the West: Our Verdict

King of the West has something very decent to offer in terms of playability and potential with some great prizes available above the reels to keep you going. It’s great to see that a lot of these prizes can be triggered within the Base Game due to the presence of the Bounty Hunter, and the Wanted Wilds Feature brings its own element of excitement to what might have otherwise been cumbersome Base Game Gameplay.

The maximum win cap of King of the West is 50,000x, which is quite the figure. To be honest though, this cap probably won’t ever be hit, and we think that the 10,000x top prize is more of a realistic figure. The RTP for King of the west is a little bit below average at 95.49%, so it may not serve those looking for a good wagering game.

The Free Spins doesn’t differ too much from the Base Game itself, but the enriched prizes does enough to get you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, we don’t think King of the West stands out as a gamechanger and the overused theme certainly won’t help much in making it stand out either. Other Wild West style slots stand out a lot more, but all in all, not a bad slot at all from Blueprint Gaming.
