Woolly mammoths are a group of animals that lived during the Pleistocene period (Ice age) until they were wiped out in the Holocene Epoch around 12,000 years ago. Mammoths are part of the Elephantidae family, known as Mammuthus. 

Did you know..thanks to advances in molecular Biology and cloning of mammals, Scientists have proposed using the preserved genetic material of a Mammoth in order to recreate them. Woolly mammoths cannot be fully recreated, but efforts are underway to grow them in an ‘artifical womb’ to create a hybrid elephant with certain woolly mammoth traits.

Turning our attention back to Mount M, Play’n GO has pulled off the mammoth task of recreating the prehistoric world of Mount M. Here you will play alongside sabretooth tigers and woolly rhinos as they pounce and charge onto the reels on an arctic and very chilly backdrop that is truly mesmerizing.

Mount M Base Game and Features

Mount M is a 5 reel slot with up to 8,182 ways to win. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol types land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. 

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Mount M has a theoretical RTP of 96.25% and a maximum win capacity of 13,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Mount M is the Mammoth, followed by the Sabretooth Tiger, Woolly Rhino, Wolf and Dodo. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack. There is also a Wild symbol present which appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes for all other symbols except Scatters. 

Shatter Respin Feature

During the base game, landing a Wild symbol when reels 2, 3 and 4 are lit activates the Shatter Respin feature. 

During the Shatter Respin, between 1 and 4 reel expansions are unlocked opening up the total amount of ways to win to a maximum of 8,182. In addition to this, the same amount of High-paying animal symbols are also upgraded to the Mammoth symbol. 

At the end of the Shatter Respin feature, the reel set will revert back to its original size and the ways to win is reset back to 1,024. 

Mount M Free Spins

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters in any position on the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15 and 20 Evolution Free Spins respectively.

During Evoution Free Spins, the reel set starts off with 1,024 ways to win. The middle expanding reels are present but they begin locked. Collecting a certain amount of Orbs carried by Wilds will unlock a row and upgrade the lowest value High-paying symbol into the Mammoth symbol. 

The remaining 3 rows can be unlocked by collecting an additional 10, 14 and 17 Orbs attached to Wild symbols. Each time a row is unlocked, +1 Free Spin is awarded.

Landing 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters during the Evolution Free Spins round, awards an additional +3, +5 and +8 and +10 Free Spins respectively.

Mount M: Our Verdict

Once again, Play’n GO has chosen an interesting aesthetic for a with a theme that they seem to adore, animals. This time, we’re heading to a pre-historic period of time with creatures that are long since extinct, but are back from the dead for the sake of their latest interesting instalment.

Mount M from Play’n GO might have been run of the mill if not for its shatter resspins feature, and reel expansions make it even more interesting. However, we don’t think its Play’n GO’s best work yet. Mount M uses a symbol upgrade symbol not unlike the features seen in other slots, so in terms of ingenuity its more borrowed than it is new.

Not every new slot can be a complete reimagination, so you can’t mark Play’n GO down too much for capatalising on a tried and true, popular formula, as much as we’d have liked to see something new.

In terms of potential, Mount M looks good with a win cap of 13,000x, which is a fairly impressive figure for a Play’n GO game.

Overall, Mount M is interesting to look at, and interesting to play, but it lacks the kind of magic that makes it stick in your mind as a memorable new favourite.
