Dionysus is the ancient Greek God of winemaking, grape-harvest, fertility, festivity and more. Known as Bacchus by the Greeks, the name was later adopted by the Romans.
As a liberator, Dinoysus’s wine, music, and dance skills free his followers from fear and care, and subvert the oppressive restraints of the powerful.
Will we be able to impress the God of wine and festivity? Let’s play on and find out!
Base Game & Features
Dionysus is a 5-reel slot with 15 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin, and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Dionysus has a theoretical RTP of 96.16% and a max win cap of 7,500x.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is Dionysus himself, followed by the Gold Cup of Fruit, Harp and Grape Chalice. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine.
Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Scatter. Each time 1 or more Wild symbols is part of a winning combination, a Multiplier is awarded as follows.
- 1 Wild – Awards a x2 Multiplier.
- 2 Wilds – Awards a x4 Multiplier.
- 3 Wilds – Awards a x8 Multiplier.
- 4 Wilds – Awards a x16 Multiplier.
- 5 Wilds – Awards a x32 Multiplier.
Sticky Respin Feature
Each time 1 or more Golden Scatter symbols land, they will transform into a random Sticky symbol from the paytable (excluding Scatter and Wild symbols), triggering the Sticky Respin Feature.
During the Sticky Respin feature, the Sticky symbol will lock into position, and any identical symbols on the reels (including Wilds) will also lock into their positions, and a Respin will begin.
If another Golden Scatter were to land during this time, a new Sticky symbol would be chosen at random, and all matching symbols would also lock into their positions.
If there is more than 1 active Sticky symbol in play at any one time, the highest-paying sticky symbol will be selected, and all remaining sticky symbols will be upgraded to that symbol (excluding Wilds).
The Sticky Respin feature will continue until no more symbols become Sticky, or if all possible positions on the reels are locked. After this, all wins are paid to your total balance.
Free Spins
Filling the Bonus Meter with 3 Gold or Silver Scatters during the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding either 8 or 4 Free Spins, respectively.
At the start of each Free Spin, 1 Gold Scatter symbol will be randomly placed on the reel set, triggering the Sticky Respin feature.
Bonus Buy
Those outside the UK will benefit from a Bonus Buy option.
Thunderkick has granted players access to the Free Spins round for a total cost of 85x your current bet. (RTP 96.42%).
Our Verdict
After a few releases that felt very un-Thunderkick, Dionysus Golden Feast brings it right back with gameplay that the provider does brilliantly.
First and foremost, we should mention the visual delight that is Dionysus. It has an almost ethereal feel to it, which is to be expected when you’re dealing with a slot centred around the godly Ancient Greece. It truly is a visual wonder, but does it stack up where it matters?
The gameplay toys with elements that Thunderkick has been known for before, with multipliers that increase depending on how many Wild Symbols you have, sticky symbols and rather impressive payout values as well. It gives us that throwback feel to some of our favourite Thunderkick slots like Midas Golden Touch, Pyramyth, Phoenix Paradise and others alike. Your opinion of it will vary depending on whether or not you think Thunderkick are better when they branch out into uncharted territory, or if their bread and butter features are just too appealing to abandon.
We’re torn ourselves. Thunderkick are innovative and smart with plenty of games that deviate from the norm, yet we still find that our heart belongs to games like this.
Dionysus Golden Feast certainly isn’t a new experience, but it’s a solid one. 7,500x win potential makes it appealing on its own, and solid gameplay with reliable staple mechanics make it a prime choice for those looking for something with a hint of simplicity.
Overall, Dionysus Golden Feast certainly won’t top the list for any innovation awards, but it’s a respectable and well-constructed Thunderkick classic with a lot of lovable traits.
