Play N Go
Play’n GO is taking us to a small village in Italy, where a macho cockerel rules the roost, in their latest release, Rocco Gallo!
Meet Rocco Gallo, the cokerel with quite the reputation, Chicks want to date him and other cockerels want to be him. Rocco may rule the roost, but the local pest Vinnie Volpe is always lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce and take off with Rocco’s chicks. In order to keep his reputation intact, Rocco must stand up to his nemesis, but will he succeed?
Play’n GO has chosen a somewhat unusual theme for Rocco Gallo, but it’s not entirely new to us, with titles such as The Bird House and Chicken Chase from Pragmatic Play coming to mind. When we review slots with a Chicken theme, a certain question always pops up …What came first, the Chicken or the Egg? Maybe Play’n GO can shed some light on the subject.
Rocco Gallo is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbol types from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with a selection of bets in between the two.
In terms of symbols, all High-paying symbols fall to a selection of Chicks. The Chick with the Red background has the highest pay value, followed by the Chicks with the Purple, Dark Green and Light Green backgrounds. Low-paying symbols fall to Tomatoes, Peppers, Brocolli, Onions and Mushrooms. There is also a Wild symbol present, which substitutes for all symbols except Egg Scatters.
Looking further into the base game, it seems that Play’n GO has chosen not to spoil us with any kind of luxurious Features. That being said, Rocco Gallo himself can randomly appear, pumping his biceps and dropping 2 Egg Scatters on the reels.
Landing 3 Egg Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Instant Prize Bonus, awarding 3 Respins.
Once active, the reels will be transformed into a 5×3 Grid, where Golden Egg symbols can land in each section, excluding the 2 Special positions which are highlighted on the Grid. The two Special positions can only award Rocco Gallo or Vinnie Volpe symbols.
Each time a Golden Egg symbol lands, it will reveal either a Cash prize or a Multiplier, resetting the Respins counter back to 3. The Cash Prize amounts available are 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x or 10x your total bet. Once a Cash Prize amount is awarded, it will automatically be added to the Cash Pot in the top left corner. In addition to this, a Golden Egg symbol can also reveal a Multiplier of x2, which is applied to the current amount in the Cash Pot.
Once all Cash Prize or Multiplier values have been accumulated, all Golden Egg symbols will be removed from the Grid before the start of the next Respin. Please note, the Cash Pot is capped at 6,000x your current bet. Once the 6,000x cap is reached, all further Golden Eggs will not be applied to the Cash Pot. The amount of Respins that can be awarded, is also capped at 155.
Rocco Gallo got off to a flying start with outstanding graphics and a rather comical theme, but in terms of gameplay it feels like its lacking.
There’s nothing overly innovative at all here in terms of actual features. Play’n GO has gone to great lengths in creating a cultured Italian theme with their buff figurehead, but appreciation for creativity in the design department can only go so far, and ultimately, gameplay is whats important.
Though it’s important to jump into the shoes of those that might prefer the simplicity that Rocco Gallo offers. We’re big fans of innovation, but not every slot can push the boundaries, and in fairness, Play’n GO wasn’t trying to create the next best thing here. If you’re the sort of player that doesn’t care to understand the weird mechanics of modern slots, then Rocco Gallo might be just what you’re looking for.
There’s nothing grandiose, it’s very simple to understand and it does show promise if its simple respin bonus round wants to adorn the reels with Golden Eggs.
In terms of potential, Rocco Gallo boasts that it’s capable of 10,000x. We can’t really see how Rocco Gallo could get anywhere near it, so we’re guessing it’s more of a theoretical cap than a realistic prospect.
Still though, Rocco Gallo is probably good for a few hundred ‘x’ if the conditions are right, which might be more than enough for those who don’t fancy their chances on the extreme volatility slots of today.
