Tale of Kyubiko Slot Review 2022

Tale of Kyubiko from Play’n GO takes us on a journey to the east where tales of a mischievious spirit comes to life.

It’s said that Inari the shapeshifting goddess can take on the form of both a human and a fox, and it’s also said that following her will lead you to treasure, but is she just a myth?

There’s only one way to find out. Let’s follow Inari into her lair in this gorgeous Japanese inspired instalment from Play’n GO.

Tale of Kyubiko Base

Tale of Kyubiko Slot Theme

Tale of Kyubiko looks gorgeous thanks to Play’n GO’s typical professionalism and the inspiration behind the theme. Whether you count yourself among a group who adore Japanese themes or not, you can’t deny that there’s a certain mystifying beauty behind the culture.

Tale of Kyubiko does an excellent job of portraying the beauty of Japan and Japanese mythology in this stunning instalment.

To some, the idea might seem a little eccentric. Then again, Japanese culture is so different from ours that

Tale of Kyubiko Betting and Symbols

Play’n GO always give players a broad variety of options when it comes to betting, and Tale of Kyubiko is no different. The lowest option in Tale of Kyubiko is £/€0.10 per spin, and the highest option is £/€100 per spin.

When it comes to symbols, the highest paying symbol is the Inari Mask, which is also Wild, followed by the Monkey, Frog and Bird Symbols. Low paying symbols are lanterns with Heart, Spade, Diamond and Club Symbols.

The symbol to look out for here is the Inari Stacked Wild Symbol, which is really the main attraction. More on that below.

Tale of Kyubiko: The Base Game and Features

Despite a theme designed around a complicated yet beautiful culture, Tale of Kyubiko is actually a very simple slot indeed.

The first thing you’ll notice when you load it up is how it has a mere 3 reels, and only 5 fixed pay lines. In order to form a win, you’ll need to connect at least 3 of any symbol from left to right on and of these pay lines, starting from the left-most reel.

Pay outs aren’t amazing, but that’s to be expected from a 3 reel slot. 3 of the highest paying Wild Symbol will net you a mere 10x your bet, and the other high paying symbols award 8x, 5x and 2x respectively.

The potential here comes from the Inari Stacked Wild and the Inari’s Dance Feature, which has stages of transformation and multipliers to go with it.

Inari’s Dance Feature

There’s no Free Spins Feature in Tale of Kyubiko, but rather a respin feature instead.

When an Inari’s Stacked Wild symbol lands fully in view then the Inari’s Dance Feature begins. Wins with the Inari Stacked Wild will initially be multiplied by x2, and then x3, x5, x10 and x25,

To progress to the next multiplier level, you’ll need to keep connecting wins. When you do, Inari will continue with her transformation from Fox to Woman and increase her multiplier in the process. The Feature ends when there are no further winning combinations.

The Inari Stacked Wild may land partially in view at any time. If this happens, then there’s a chance that the symbol may nudge to become fully visible. If the Wild nudges, then the Inari’s Dance Feature commences.

Tale of Kyubiko: Our Verdict

You can’t really give Tale of Kyubiko tonnes of praise, but you can’t really critique it too harshly either.

Play’n GO has certainly tried their hand before at 3 reel slots with games like Blazin’ Bullfrog, and they turned out to be really boring games with an uninteresting aesthetic and no real value. Tale of Kyubiko isn’t exactly up there either in terms of potential with a 2,250x maximum win cap, but we appreciate Tale of Kyubiko for what it is a lot more than we did with Blazin’ Bullshi…frog.

Perhaps it’s the interesting Japanese aesthetic, but we do think there’s a certain charm to Tale of Kyubiko. It wasn’t made to be a smash hit, volatile monster, but it’s fun, and it certainly has its moments.
