Respins

During the base game, if 1 or 2 Scatter symbols land in view, a Respin is awarded for each Scatter.

Once active, a random High or Low-paying symbol is chosen and if any of these symbols are present after the Respin, the chosen symbol will expand to fill the entire reel it’s on, resulting in a Prize.

Torque Respins Feature

Torque Free Spins

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters across the reels in any position triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15 and 20 Free Spins respectively.

During Free Spins, a Special symbol is awarded which corresponds to the number of Scatters that triggered the Free Spins round. The Ten, Jack or Queen symbol is chosen at random for triggering the round with 3, 4 or 5 Scatters respectively.

At the end of each Free Spin, if the Special symbol is present on the reels, a Counter is incremented. Once 10 Special symbols are collected, and additional +10 Free Spins are awarded.

The counter will then reset back to 0, and the Special symbol becomes the next available symbol in the paytable. For all other Free Spins, symbols of a lower value than the Special symbol will be removed from play.

If the Special symbol happens to be the Ace, and 10 Special symbols have been collected, then a new random symbol is chosen. If the new special symbol appears after each Free Spin, it will then expand to fill the entire reel it’s on.

Torque: Our Verdict

Torque evokes fond memories of Fast and Furious, Need for Speed Underground and other high-octane pedal to the metal forms of media.

While playing you’ll get a brief moment of respite from the real world as you invision yourself tearing up tarmac on the track with the seemingly infinite number of gears that Vin Diesel seems to have, and it really is quite enjoyable. Going back to your 2011 1.6 Ford Focus sucks after playing Torque, but its certainly a nice dream while it lasts.

Light and Wonder has done well with the visuals in Torque, and the ‘Book of’ style gameplay is sure to resonate with players everywhere. During the Base Game, Torque adopts a sort of ‘Book of’ style feature, but Free Spins is different entirely.

Torque requires you to collect symbols similarly to how Morgana Megaways did. Once enough are collected, the lower symbol is removed from the reel and a new symbol is chosen, and so on until you’re left with nothing buy high paying symbols that can expand. At first, it can feel a little slow. The first few retriggers certainly aren’t the epitome of excitement, but with a bit of luck you’ll feel its appeal at the higher levels.

In terms of potential, Torque could have done with a few extra horses under the hood. 1,330x isn’t exactly in line with the win potential of other modern offerings, but if lower volatility is your thing then Torque could be a reliable option.

Overall, Torque felt good and played well, but its let down slightly by a bonus round that should have a bit more momentum, considering its ‘fast’ theme.
