Troll’s Gold from Relax Gaming takes us on a medieval fantasy adventure as we venture deep into the dark dragon’s den with a team of trolls to take his treasure.
With respins, Free Spins and gigantic win potential, the reward of entering the dragon’s lair certainly seems to justify the risk, and with a team of trolls in tow to help you out your chances are as good as anyone’s! Dare you try your luck?
Relax Gaming have been upping their game of late with titles like Money Cart 2, Top Dawgs, and Chip Spin, and they’ve plenty more in the pipeline to get excited about. Can Troll’s Gold bring the same level of excitement as titles that came before it? Let’s meet the beast face to face and see what it’s all about.
Troll’s Gold Slot Theme
A Castle wall in the background and the remains of those brave (or stupid) enough to try their luck at the dragon’s riches sets the scene for Troll’s Gold.
Beneath the reels, you’ll see the entrance to the Dragon’s Lair, and you’ll see for yourself what lies below when you enter the Free Spins round.
The graphics for Troll’s Gold displays that usual high level of graphical fidelity, which is something we’ve come to expect from Relax Gaming instalments, but the sounds don’t exactly evoke an overwhelming sense of excitement with its slow-paced medieval tone.
Troll’s Gold: Betting and Symbols
Relax Gaming have catered for everyone who wishes to play treasure hunter in Troll’s Gold.
The betting options in this one starts from £/€0.10 per spin, and the highest option is £/€80 per spin. There are plenty of different options between the two, so everyone should be happy with the choices given here.
When it comes to symbols, the Troll’s are the highest paying symbols in the game. The Troll with the crown and the red background comes in as the highest, and the Troll with the orange, purple and blue background are the other high paying symbols. Classic Spade, Heart, Club and Diamond are the low paying symbols, and there’s also a Wild symbol which may display a multiplier.
Troll’s Gold: The Base Game and Features
Troll’s Gold is a 5 reel slot with a 3-4-5-4-3 configuration and 20 fixed paylines. A win is formed when at least 3 of any symbol connects from left to right on adjacent reels along any of the 20 pay lines.
There are some fairly decent payouts available for connecting lines of symbols, with a 15x reward for connecting a line of the highest paying troll symbol. Thankfully, the Wild symbols have the potential to increase the win potential with their multiplier capabilities.
Wilds are present on reels 2, 3, 4 & 5, and they have multipliers of 1x, 2x and 3x. When more than one wild is involved in a win, the wild values are multiplied by each other.
The Wilds are pretty fundamental if you want to see some decent Base Game hits, and the fact that these multiply by each other exponentially increases the potential.
The next feature to up the excitement factor is the Lock-In Re-spins. Troll’s stick together apparently, and you’ll be glad they do when it comes to this feature.
The Lock-in Re-Spins feature is awarded when a stack of matching symbols lands fully in reel 1.
These symbols and any other matching symbols on the reels lock in place and all remaining symbols re-spin.
Lock-in Re-Spins will continue as long as at least 1 matching symbol or Wild symbol lands anywhere on the reels. When no further matches land on the reels, then the Lock-in Re-Spins feature will end and wins are evaluated.
If you’re lucky enough to fill all of the reels, then you’ll be awarded a multiplier on the total win. This ranges from 2x to 10x.
This can be a great feature, especially if you can get the full screen filled. Despite its excitement, Lock-in Re-Spins isn’t the main feature of Troll’s Gold.
Treasure Trove Re-Spins
Treasure Trove Re-Spins are awarded when a stack of Gold Bag Symbols lands fully on reel 1.
Only 2 symbols may land in this mode:
- Gold Bag – Reveals a value of 1 – 10x your bet
- Treasure Chest Collector Symbol – Collects the values of all symbols present on the reels. Multiple may land per spin.
To the right of the reels, you’ll see a progression meter. This tells you how many symbols you need to progress, and the reward you get for reaching the milestones. The first increment requires you to land 12 symbols, and 10x is awarded for doing so. Every symbol after that takes you to the next level.
- 12 Symbols – 10x
- 13 Symbols – 20x
- 14 Symbols – 50x
- 15 Symbols – 100x
- 16 Symbols – 200x
- 17 Symbols – 500x
- 18 Symbols – 100x
- 19 Symbols – 10,000x
A slight Money Train vibe here in a sense, but without a lot of the other character features like payers or snipers. There are no lives here either. You’ll need to land a new symbol on every spin or the feature will end.
The real challenge here is to get to the 12 symbols needed for the 10x. Everyone after that only requires one additional symbol, and the rewards start increasing quite dramatically.
Troll’s Gold Bonus Buy
Troll’s Gold has a bonus buy option for those outside of the UK.
This is rather cheap when compared to some others at 60x. The RTP for the Bonus Buy changes from 96.36% to 96.61% when utilising this feature.
Troll’s Gold: Our Verdict
Troll’s Gold can prove to be a very dependable game with plenty of win potential, but is it Relax Gaming’s best? Probably not.
Money Train 2, Money Cart 2, Chip Spin and Troll’s Gold all share a common aspect in the way that they’re Hold & Spin type slots, but none have been as good since Money Train 2.
That’s not to say that Relax Gaming hasn’t excelled in making Troll’s Gold an exciting option for those who are fans of what they do, but we’d like to see them do something that separates itself from the bunch.
Statistic wise, Troll’s Gold looks solid with a hit frequency of 21.68%, an RTP of 96.36% and a maximum win capability of 12,500x. A formidable maximum win figure like this does well to make Troll’s Gold very exciting indeed.
You’ve got to give them props for including both Lock-in Re-Spins and Treasure Trove Re-spins. Without one or the other, Troll’s Gold might have been a bit average, but both of these combined with the multiplying Wilds means that there’s plenty of action to see in Troll’s Gold.
To summarise, Troll’s Gold has all the right components to be very popular, but there are probably others from Relax Gaming that does it better.
