Is it us, or does Wild Hop & Drop look eerily familiar? Perhaps Pragmatic has seen the success of Push Gaming’s Fire Hopper and decided to follow suit, or perhaps we’re jumping (or hopping) to conclusions.

Wild Hop & Drop Base Game and Features

Wild Hop & Drop is a 6×6 Video Slot with a Cluster Pays mechanic. Winning combinations are formed when 6 or more of the same symbol types land either Horizontally or Vertically in a cluster on the grid.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Wild Hop & Drop has a theoretical RTP of 96.46% and a maximum win capacity of 5,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Wild Hop & Drop is the Green Frog, followed by the Purple and Blue Frogs. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack.

There is also a Wild symbol present which substitutes for all other symbols except Scatters. During the base game, the Wild symbol can change its size to 1×1, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6.

Wild Hop & Drop Free Spins

Landing 4 or more Scatters in any position on the grid triggers the Free Spins round, awardng 6 Free Spins. Landing 5 or 6 Scatters begins the Free Spins round with +1 and +2 Scatter symbols already collected in the Meter.

During the Free Spins round, the Wild symbol is always present on the grid and starts off as 1×1 in size, hopping around the grid with each new spin.

In addition to this, all Scatter symbols that land will be collected and stored in a special Meter on the right side of the reel set. For every 4th Scatter symbol collected, a retrigger is awarded and between +1 and +3 additional spins are gifted.

The roaming Wild symbol will now take on a new size progressively to 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5 and 6×6. Upon reaching the final level, +1 Free Spin is always awarded. After the 4th retrigger, there is no further levels to unlock.

If the maximum win capacity of 5,000x is reached, the Free Spins round will immedietly end and all remaining Free Spins will be forfeited.

Wild Hop & Drop: Our Verdict

It seems as if our suspicions about the origin of Wild Hop & Drop were almost on the money. Wild Hop & Drop looks and feels somewhat similar to the Push Gaming slot Fire Hopper and has a similar Free Spins round to that of Fat Banker and others in the series.

With Push Gaming’s ‘fat’ series growing (quite literally) in popularity, it makes sense why another Provider would choose similar features for their own slots in order to recreate even just a fraction of their success.

In terms of design, Wild Hop & Drop looks pretty good. There is something about frogs and pondlife in general that comes across quite theraputic and brings back fond childhood memories of tadpole hunting with friends. It was a nice surprise to see the frog on the left isn’t just for show either and plays an important part in the base game and Free Spins round.

Although the base game lacks a certain flare, the Free Spins round is where the magic happens. During testing, the Scatters didn’t just disappear which is usually expected and it seemed pretty easy to level up to the next Wild size before your free spins ran out, but of course it’s not always going to be that straightforward.

All in all, Wild Hop & Drop may share certain similarities to other slots but it doesn’t make it any less worthy in our opinion and is definitely worth giving a go at the least.
