Jamie: Thanks for joining us, can you start by introducing yourself and explaining to our readers who Wishbone Games are and what you’re looking to achieve in the long-term?
Theo: Theo the Greek here, originally from Thessaloniki – the second biggest city in Greece. I’ve been based in Malta since 2017, and I’m currently the Head of Games at Wishbone Games, as well as a long-time slot enthusiast. Before this, I spent over seven years on the operator side, so I’ve had the chance to see the industry from both perspectives. That’s been really valuable in understanding what operators are looking for and what makes a game stand out on the floor.
Wishbone Games is still fairly new, founded in 2023 by a team of experienced developers, mathematicians, and artists from some of the leading slot studios in the industry. Most of the team is based in Cardiff, Wales, and we bring together a strong mix of expertise across maths, game design, slot development, sound, marketing, and more.
Long-term, the goal is pretty straightforward. We want to create games that are trusted, engaging, and instantly recognisable – titles with a clear identity that stick. When you open a Wishbone slot, you should know it’s ours. Over the past few months in particular, we’ve been focus on improving our visuals, developing new mechanics and math models, and putting our own spin on familiar features.
Jamie: Looking through your portfolio a lot of your titles are inspired by classic slot themes such as ancient Egypt, mythology, fishing and Las Vegas. How much of an influence do these themes have on the success of games, and why has Wishbone chosen to lean into these ones specifically?
Theo: I’d say it’s a well-balanced mix of everything. Certain themes and mechanics are just universally understood in the industry. They work, and there’s an immediate recognition that comes with them. What we try to do at Wishbone is take those familiar themes and layer in our own mechanics and fresh ideas on top.
For example, we’re quite well known for the Kingfisher series, which mixes classic pot-style gameplay with Cash Collect and modifiers. Then you’ve got the Ammit series, which is Egyptian-themed, but again, we’re blending well-known mechanics with our own twists and additions.
Like most studios, we’re influenced to a certain extent by what works. Egyptian, Greek and Nordic mythology, fishing themes… they’re all popular for a reason. The best online slots are a bit like food – you eat with your eyes first. That initial visual impression really matters. You need something that immediately engages, and then the gameplay and maths must back it up and prove it deserves a place in an operator’s portfolio.
That’s why we lean into these themes, but the real challenge – and where we focus most – is making them feel fresh.
Jamie: Your latest release is Gates of Colossus™ MultiChase™. Can you tell us what this slot’s all about and explain how the MultiChase™ mechanic works?
Theo: Gates of Colossus™ MultiChase™ is our take on the very popular Pay-Anywhere mechanic, but with our own twist. It’s a dynamic, feature-rich game with a strong theme, built around that ‘Pay Anywhere’ feel, but we’ve approached progression and features a bit differently.
One of the key differences is how Free Spins are triggered. Instead of the traditional scatter-based trigger, we use random pot triggers – the automatons sitting on top of the reels. When they activate, they trigger the bonus in a more dynamic, surprising way.
Each automaton comes with its own modifier: one increases the landing of multipliers, one transforms symbols into sync symbols, and another boosts the landing of cash values. Cash symbols themselves pay in a similar way to standard symbols (8+), but the outcome really depends on the values they carry, so there’s a lot of upside there.
We’ve also included a range of additional features, such as Bonus Buy, Bet Boost, and Top Takes™ – all where available. Top Takes™ is a cool new feature to Games Global and Wishbone, which aggregates the top outcomes from a batch number of spins and delivers them to players as a package, providing an action-packed gameplay path to high-value prize potential.
Jamie: Scatter symbols can activate features with different modifiers – cash, sync and multi. In this day and age, do all slots need to offer more varied bonus features that can unfold in several ways, as opposed to a simple Free Spins bonus?
Theo: I think variety in slots is always a good thing, especially when it comes to mechanics and features. The standard Free Spins round still has its place, but having different modifiers or ways a bonus can play out definitely adds to the overall experience and keeps things feeling fresh.
That said, it’s important not to overcomplicate things. There’s a balance. If you add too many layers, it can become confusing or lose clarity. For us, the goal is to introduce variation in a way that feels natural and easy to understand, while still offering depth.
In our case, combining elements like cash, sync, and Multipliers works really well. It adds depth without overcomplicating the experience, and makes each bonus feel slightly different.
So overall, more variety adds value, but only when it’s done in a clean, intuitive way.
Jamie: Similar to the above, how important are Bonus Buys – where available – in slots in 2026? Whilst they’re not accessible to players in every market, they add real value for slot streamers and open up a new dimension of content creation.
Theo: That’s a great question, and honestly, it’s something we’ve been focusing on a lot. Bonus Buys (where available) are definitely an important feature in 2026, even if they’re not accessible in every market. From a content creation standpoint, they’ve become a big part of how slots are experienced and shared – particularly in the streaming space.
They also offer flexibility in how the game can be enjoyed. Some prefer exploring the full base game experience; others want to access the bonus features directly. Having that option adds value for both operators and the wider content ecosystem.
At the same time, we design our games so that they work just as well without relying on Bonus Buys. The core experience still needs to stand on its own, especially in regulated markets where they’re restricted.
So overall, they’re relevant and valuable, but they should complement the game, not carry it.
Jamie: In terms of the art-style for your games, do you have a certain philosophy as a studio, or is it a matter of designing a game to fit the theme?
Theo: That’s a big topic. I could probably write a book on it.
For us, it’s a mix of both. We always design the art style to fit the theme and the gameplay first – that’s the foundation. The visuals need to support how the game plays, create a clear and intuitive experience in motion, and make every element feel like it belongs.
At the same time, we are building a recognisable identity as a studio. Over time, the goal is for a Wishbone game to be instantly recognisable – not just by the logo, but by the overall feel, the polish, and the way things move and present themselves.
A big focus for us recently has been improving visual quality across the board. That means better execution, stronger sound design, cleaner UI, and a more cohesive experience overall.
So, it’s really about balance. Consistency in quality and identity, but enough flexibility to make sure each game still feels fresh and true to its theme.
Jamie: If you had to pick just three titles from your portfolio that best represent what Wishbone Games is all about, which ones would you choose and why?
Theo: If I had to pick three, I’d go with the Kingfisher series, the Ammit series, and Gates of Colossus™ MultiChase™.
Kingfisher represents our approach to combining familiar mechanics with our own identity. Ammit does the same within a different theme, and it’s become a strong franchise for us. Gates of Colossus™ MultiChase™ shows where we’re heading – taking popular mechanics and pushing them in new directions.
That said, I’d like to sneak in a fourth: Phoenix Reign™. Special mention for that one, as it’s a title we’re really proud of – built on a completely new math model and engine. It features seven eggs, which might sound unconventional, but it works. The base game also has a distinctive mechanic that keeps things feeling engaging throughout.
And there’s plenty more coming. We have a strong pipeline ahead, so watch this space.
Thanks for having us.
