Colossus Hold and Win does the Ancient Greek Theme very well, and the graphics are top notch. To be honest though, It’s one of those that we find hard to get excited about because it’s used so heavily.

Dare we say it’s taught us a little bit about mythology though? To the left of the screen you’ll see a massive statue which could well be Helios, who we saw not too long ago in Relax Gaming’s Helios’ Fury. We could be completely wrong, in which case we look a bit stupid, but we must say that the statue is prominent, regardless of who the inspiration for it was.

Overall, the idea behind Colossus: Hold & Win won’t impress you too much, but can the gameplay?

Colossus: Hold & Win Betting and Symbols

Colossus: Hold & Win has a variety of betting options for players to choose form. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available is £/€0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet available is £/€20 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.

The highest paying regular symbol in Colossus: Hold & Win is the Gladiator, this is closely followed by the Armour, Shield and Ship. Lower paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack.

Wild symbols substitute for all symbols except Cash Respin Coins.

Colossus: Hold & Win Base Game and Features

Colossus: Hold & Win is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a win you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The base game in Colossus: Hold & Win is not particularly loaded with features or full of excitement for that matter, but the Colossus Wilds feature is more than enough to keep players on the edge of their seat.

Colossus Wilds

During any random spin in the base game, each time a Wild symbol lands on a win line, it will automatically transform into a Stacked Multiplier Wild for that particular reel.

The Multiplier values that can be awarded with the Wild are x2. x3, x5 or x10. The Multiplier is always awarded by the Rising Flame on the right of the screen.

Wild symbols are only present on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

If more than one Multiplier Wild expands, the Rising Flame will award individual Multipliers to the Wilds.

Colossus: Hold & Win Respins

Landing 6 or more Gold Coin symbols in any position on the reels, triggers the Hold & Win Respins feature, awarding 3 Respins.

During the Hold & Win feature, the Rising Flame can randomly award a Multiplier once a new Gold Coin lands in view. The Multipliers that can be awarded are x2, x3, x5 or x10. The Multiplier will then be applied to all Gold Coins present.

Each time a new Gold Coin symbol lands on the grid, it will become sticky and will remain in place for the duration of Respins. Once this happens, all Respins will automatically reset back to 3. During the Hold & Win round, the once dormant Jackpot Prizes will become active.

Jackpot Prizes

In order to bag yourselves one of these glorious Jackpot Prizes, during the Hold & Win feature,  you will need to fill the entire grid with Gold Coin symbols. The Jackpot Prizes that can be awarded are as follows.

• Minor – Awards 50x your current bet.
• Major – Awards 500x your current bet.
• Colossus – Awards a whopping 10,000x your current bet.

Once all Respins are complete, the Rising Flame can once again award one of the Multiplier amounts to all Gold Coins on the grid.

Colossus: Hold & Win Our Verdict

The Hold & Win style formula is seemingly serving iSoftBet very well, which is why they keep making more of them. We’re big fans of the format ourselves, but we are starting to wonder when enough is enough. iSoftBet are the minds behind some of the great Megaways concepts which goes hand in hand with their amazing Twisted Tale series of slots.

We’d much prefer more like that than a constant tirade of Hold & Win Style Games, or even something to add to the likes of Euphoria and Golden Gallina.

Colossus Hold and Win certainly has its merits though, even if you are a bit tired of the formula. The maximum win looks great at 10,000x. and the iSoftBet stamp of quality in terms of build is certainly present.

Overall, we suspect that Colossus Hold & Win will come and go rather quietly, but it’s not a bad game by any means, and it certainly had moments were it surprised even us.
