Fireborn Slot Review 2024

Amidst the ice and snow are fire-breathing Dragons waiting to raise the temperature in Hacksaw Gaming partner Backseat Gaming’s latest and greatest, Fireborn!

Get ready to feel the heat as we head on a mythical journey into the world of Dragons. As we embark on this journey, we will encounter majestic Gold, Red, Green, and Blue Dragons that embrace unique powers and features.

Backseat Gaming is a relatively new slot developer that first came to light in May this year following their first-ever release, Lord Venom. Since then, we’ve battled it out with Poseidon in Commander of Tridents and drifted off to the land on nod in Sleepy Grandpa, but now it’s time for some mythical creature action.

Will Fireborn show us what Backseat Gaming is really made of? Let’s play on and find out!

Wild Symbols

Wild symbols substitute for all High and Low-paying symbols from the paytable and can land with random Multipliers attached to them by Gold and Green Dragons.

Wild Multipliers will multiply all connected pay lines. If more than Wild Multiplier appears on the same pay line, their values will first be added together and applied to the win. During Free Spins, all Wilds and Red Dragon Wild reels will become sticky until the end of the round.

Dragon Symbols

There are 4 special Dragon symbols in play, each with their own unique ability as follows.

  • Red Dragon – Expands into a full Wild Reel, revealing a Multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100 that is applied to any wins that pass through it.
  • Blue Dragon – Breathes fire in 1 of 4 Directions (left, right, up, or down), transforming regular symbols into Wilds. The Blue Dragon will also transform into a Wild, appearing in both the base game and Free Spins round.
  • Green Dragon – Reveals a Multiplier value of x2, x3, x5, x10, x25, x50, or x100 that is added to all Wilds and Wild Reels in view. The Green Dragon can only appear in Free Spins and cannot land if no Wilds or Wild Reels are present.
  • Gold Dragon – Shoots a random number of Golden Fireballs (min 1, max 5) at Wilds or Wild Reels, doubling their Multiplier values. The Gold Dragon can target the same or different symbols with each shot. This symbol is only available in Free Spins and cannot land if no Wilds or Wild Reels are present.

Fireborn Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Bonus Scatters in the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 12, and 14 Free Spins respectively.

During Free Spins, there is an increased chance of landing Red and Blue Dragon symbols than in the base game. You may also be lucky enough to see the Green and/or Gold Dragons in action. Please note, that the Free Spins round cannot be retriggered.

Fireborn: Our Verdict

Backseat Gaming are still a very young studio, and Fireborn and those before it are promising signs of future success. From the moment you fire it up, the crisp graphical design grabs your attention. The edgy, dramatic vibe adds a layer of intrigue right from the get-go.

The red and blue dragon features add another dimension to what could have been a rather dull base game, and their presence makes every spin that they appear on feel like a significant event, though we don’t notice some extended periods where they didn’t trigger. The Gold and Green dragons would have been welcome additions to the base game, but unfortunately, they’re only available during Free Spins.

The maximum potential of Fireborn sits at 15,000x, which is quite significant. This extra potential puts it above many others, and it may prove enough to usher in players who look at potential and potential alone.

Overall, we think Fireborn is pretty good, but not the most groundbreaking slot. It’s a solid addition to the Backseat Gaming portfolio, but it’s a force to be reckoned with. For only their fourth gaming, Fireborn looks like a job well done to us.
