Considering its close resemblance to Multifly, some may think it strange that Yggdrasil has opted to drop the 243 ways in favour of pay lines. At first, it seems like a big of a backwards move, but when you have a look at the difference in multipliers between the two, it all makes sense.

To form a win, you’ll need to connect symbols from left to right on adjacent reels starting from the left-most reel. Winning symbols will disappear from play, causing new symbols to fall in from above via a cascade to fill their spaces to create more potential winning combos. A Wild symbol will be added to one of the empty spaces every time a win is formed, which makes further combinations more likely.

Every single win in Raptor Doublemax doubles the multiplier, and it will continue to double until no more wins are present with no limit. Multifly fans will find common ground in a different setting here, with many core functions of Multifly integrated into Raptor Doublemax as well as a few changes.

At first, it seemed like opting for pay lines in favour of 243 ways was an incomprehensible backwards move, but losing the preferable ways to win function in favour of huge multipliers clears any confusion. Multipliers that double rather than increment by 1 breeds nothing but pure excitement, and when you see how big they can get in the Free Spins you’ll be on the edge of your seat hoping for a connection of big symbols for a win that’ll blow your mind. However, we did mention earlier that it feels a bit rigged, so don’t feel surprised if high paying symbol connections all but disappear in the later stages…if you can get a bonus that is.

The brutal nature of the bonus gamble means that many will time travel back to the present day bonus-less and unsatisfied. Despite a few frustrations here and there, we think Raptor Doublemax is an outstanding show from Yggdrasil, and it just goes to show how smaller ideas like Multifly can evolve into bigger, better, and more exciting inventions.
