Raptor Doublemax from Yggdrasil Gaming takes us back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth where you’ll witness an exciting clash between fierce beasts in a battle to reach the top of the food chain!
Raptor Doublemax has a number of exciting features, like Cascading Reels, Additional Wilds and Doubling Multipliers, which brings back memories of Yggdrasil’s previous release, Multifly. Unlike in Multifly, you’ll have to deal with ferocious pre-historic beasts here, and with that ferocity comes ferocious win capabilities that are double than what Multifly could offer!
‘The rage of these Jurassic giants knows no end’ according to Yggdrasil, and we can’t wait to witness this unrelenting rage in full swing.
Let’s go a few million years back in time to witness it for ourselves.
The earth millions of years ago looks a world away from our own in Raptor Doublemax, with dense forestry, dinosaur eggs and exotic plants. The backdrop in Raptor Doublemax is a world untouched by humans and the primal nature of the Jurassic period really shines here.
Yggdrasil has done a stellar job with the graphics in this one. Artistry is something they regularly excel with, and Raptor Doublemax shows it.
The betting options in Raptor Doublemax cover a wide array of options that opens up this slot to everyone. The lowest option here is £/€0.20 per spin, and the highest option is £/€60 per spin. Plenty of different options sit between the two, so players should feel more than catered for in Raptor Doublemax.
There’s also a Golden Bet option. This allows players to increase their stake by 25% which doubles the chance of landing the bonus. The price is reasonable, but features like this have a downside in the sense that it doesn’t inspire much confidence about the slots ability to bonus without it turned on. In some sense, you feel obligated to activate it if you want to see a feature.
When it comes to the symbols, Yggdrasil has chosen some of the most recognisable creatures from the Jurassic era as the top paying symbols in the game. The highest paying symbol in Raptor Doublemax is the T-rex, Followed by the Triceratops, Velociraptor and Parasaurolophus. Low paying symbols are Ace, King, Queen and Jack. There’s also a Fossil Wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols except for the Free Spins Scatter.
Raptor Doublemax is a 5 reel slot with 25 fixed pay lines. Considering its close resemblance to Multifly, some may think it strange that Yggdrasil has opted to drop the 243 ways in favour of pay lines. At first, it seems like a big of a backwards move, but when you have a look at the difference in multipliers between the two, it all makes sense.
To form a win, you’ll need to connect symbols from left to right on adjacent reels starting from the left-most reel. Winning symbols will disappear from play, causing new symbols to fall in from above via a cascade to fill their spaces to create more potential winning combos. A Wild symbol will be added to one of the empty spaces every time a win is formed, which makes further combinations more likely.
Every single win in Raptor Doublemax doubles the multiplier, and it will continue to double until no more wins are present with no limit. Believe us when we say that the multiplier in Raptor Doublemax can get absolutely huge with consecutive wins, which means that even the smallest of connections become big wins. This multiplier resets between spins, so you’ll go back to a 1x multiplier in the Base Game on the next spin.
To trigger the Free Spins in Raptor Doublemax, you’ll need at least 3 Scatter Symbols.
If you landed 3 or 4 Scatters, you’ll be offered a gamble feature that may net you more spins…or you may lose your bonus entirely.
When gambling up to 12 Spins, you’ll have a 50% chance of getting it right, but gambling up to 16 spins is a bit more brutal. If you want 16 spins, you have only a 25% chance of choosing the right one, and the 3 other options cancel the bonus entirely.
We think it would have been good if at least one of the options had 8 spins. 3 wrong answers that cancel the bonus after one successful gamble seems a little harsh, so be careful with this one.
In Free Spins, the multiplier increases with every win, just as it does in the Base Game, but it does not reset between spins. This is where excitement can really start to build, and you’re lucky enough to keep the wins coming then you’ll see some absolutely huge multipliers.
When the multiplier starts getting bigger, it does start to feel a little bit rigged. High paying symbol combinations seem to miraculously disappear, and while low paying symbols pay well enough on high multipliers, you’ll still be crying out for the big symbols.
Still, we’re very impressed with the significant potential in Raptor Doublemax. It’s not often that you get to see multipliers of that magnitude, but it’s an overwhelmingly exciting feeling when you do.
Players outside of the UK can utilise a bonus buy feature for 100x their stake.
This buys 8 Free Spins, and you’ll be able to gamble up to 16. You may lose your bonus by gambling this, just as you would if you triggered the bonus normally.
Multifly fans will find common ground in a different setting here, with many core functions of Multifly integrated into Raptor Doublemax as well as a few changes.
At first, it seemed like opting for pay lines in favour of 243 ways was an incomprehensible backwards move, but losing the preferable ways to win function in favour of huge multipliers clears any confusion. Multipliers that double rather than increment by 1 breeds nothing but pure excitement, and when you see how big they can get in the Free Spins you’ll be on the edge of your seat hoping for a connection of big symbols for a win that’ll blow your mind. However, we did mention earlier that it feels a bit rigged, so don’t feel surprised if high paying symbol connections all but disappear in the later stages…if you can get a bonus that is.
The brutal nature of the bonus gamble means that many will time travel back to the present day bonus-less and unsatisfied. If you’re the kind of player that doesn’t make a habit of gambling for more, then you may find that 8 spins serves you perfectly well. If you’re someone who hungers for more, then prepare for more than a fair share of lost gambles.
The RTP of Raptor Doublemax is average at 96.01%, and the maximum win capability is 20,000x. However formidable that figure is, we feel like it could have been more if Yggdrasil didn’t cap it. It’s clear to see through examination of the features alone that Raptor Doublemax could pay massive, and it would have been even more exciting if Yggdrasil made that cap a bit higher.
Despite a few frustrations here and there, we think Raptor Doublemax is an outstanding show from Yggdrasil, and it just goes to show how smaller ideas like Multifly can evolve into bigger, better, and more exciting inventions.
