Apollo Pays Megaways Slot Review 2024
Set over Mount Olympus is the mythical home of the ancient Greek God, Apollo. Many followers come to Apollo with a mission in mind, to unearth the glorious hidden treasures of Mount Olympus. Apollo Pays makes use of Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic, with up to an impressive 117,649 ways to win.
Its not the first time we’ve seen a release of Big Time Gamings’s with the word ‘Pays’ in the title. Pirate Pays was released in October 2021, and quickly became a success with players. Will Apollo Pays Megaways be even more of a sucess than the previous? Possibly, but it has a lot to live up to. The design of Apollo Pays looks a little old fashioned in our opinion, but as the phrase goes ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover’, so try and keep an open mind.
You may be more familiar with Big Time Gaming’s older but still very popular slots like their beloved Opal Fruits, Danger High Voltage and Lil Devil. Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic has really taken off and is seen very often in slots by other Providers, but no one can do it better than the ones who made the Megaways mechanic and that’s the legends at Big Time Gaming.
Will the God Apollo live up to the title and pay? Let’s play on and find out!
Apollo Pays Betting and Symbols
Apollo Pays has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available is £/€0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet available here is £/€20 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. The maximum bet may seem on the lower side to what we are used to, but this will be more than sufficient for most players.
The highest paying regular symbol in Apollo Pays is the Purple Gem, this is then followed by the Red, Blue and Green Gems. Lower paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine.
Wild symbols substitute for all symbols except Scatters. Wild symbols are only present on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Apollo Pays Base Game and Features
Apollo Pays is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 Ways to win. In order to form a win you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Apollo Pays has not one but two exciting features up for grabs. The Win Exchange and Respins features can all be awarded during the Base Game. More on these below.
Respins Feature
During the base game, every time a winning combination forms, the Respins feature automatically triggers.
All winning symbols will lock into position, along with any Wilds and Scatters that may be present on the win line and Respins will commence.
If 2 or more symbols improve the win, these will also be locked in and another Respin will be awarded. Respins will continue until one or no more symbols improve the win, then the win is paid.
Each Respin may also add another symbol to any of the reels.
Win Exchange Feature
Winning 100x or more of your current bet, automatically triggers the Win Exchange feature.
You will be given the option to exchange your winnings for 10 Free Spins. If you’re not feeling the 10 Free Spins, you can simply collect your winnings and return to the Base Game.
Whenever you win between 25x and 100x your current bet, you will also be given the option to exchange the entire win for the chance to be awarded 10 Free Spins.
Spin the Wheel to decide your fate. If the cursor lands in a Green section, you have won the Gamble and the Free Spins are yours to collect. Landing in a Red section means you have lost the Gamble and you will return back to the Base Game.
The Win Exchange feature will not be offered if Free Spins are awarded naturally.
Apollo Pays Free Spins
Landing 3 or more Scatters in any position on the reels, awards 10 Free Spins. Each Scatter awarded after the 3rd, awards an additional +2 Free Spins.
Once the Free Spins begin, an unlimited Win Multiplier is active, starting at x1. The Respins feature is also active and with each Respin awarded, the Win Multiplier increases by +1.
Landing 3 or more Scatters on the reels, awards an additional +4 Free Spins, plus an additional +2 Free Spins for every Scatter after the 3rd.
Apollo Pays: Our Verdict
In some ways, Apollo Pays Megaways reminds us of old school Big TIme Gaming. The graphics here aren’t too dissimilar from some of the very first Megaways games from the provider who created it, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that Apollo Pays is an older title.
That doesn’t necessarily mean it looks dated though. Apollo Pays has a very clean aesthetic with a very nice depiction of the realm of the gods.
In terms of gameplay, Apollo Pays is very true to the Megaways formula, but there’s a couple of tweaks to how Apollo Pays performs in there too, namely by the respins and win exchange features. Neither of these shake the game up to make it into something that stands out above any other Megaways title from Big Time Gaming, but they’re appreciated nonetheless.
Now, in terms of potential, Apollo Pays Megaways caught our eye. Like the gods themselves, the maximum win value of 116,030x could be considered hearsay. At first we were wondering if the value might have been a typo, but even if it’s not, we’re not entirely sure how practical it may be.
Titles like San Quentin and Tombstone RIP from Nolimit City are pretty much the only non jackpot slots that we can think of with similarly insane potential, but we’ve seen them actually reach hit. Unless we see it ourselves, we find it a little hard to believe.
Regardless, Apollo Pays Megaways is a thoroughly capable slot, maximum win potential aside. You may not be hitting 116,030x any time soon, but the gods may well smile down upon you with wins so divine that you’ll think you’ve been blessed.
