Rat King Slot Review 2024
Hot on the heels of Razor Returns comes Rat King by Push Gaming with its retro vibe!
Rat King is sure to appeal to anyone with a soft spot for a bygone era of gaming where somehow pixels trumped 4k high-resolution graphics, and we’d tend to agree, in some cases. Nostalgia is such a powerful tool that the mere sight of something that looks even slightly retro gets the hearts of many players racing.
Relax Gaming has proven its popularity of this time and time again with instalments like Banana Town and many others, but now it’s Push Gaming’s turn.
Will Rat King be a classic to remember? As Push Gaming’s first-ever ‘pay anywhere’ slot, it stands out to us already.
But let’s head back to the 80’s and test it out anyway!
Rat King Base Game and Features
Rat King is a 6×6 Video Slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic. Winning combinations are formed when 7 or more of the same symbols land anywhere across the grid.
The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Rat King has a theoretical RTP of 96.34% and a max win cap of 10,000x.
In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Red Jelly, followed by the Pink, Yellow, Orange, Purple, and Blue Treats. Instead of Low-paying symbols, Push Gaming has included Dud symbols that have no value but will still be removed from the grid when 7 or more appear in view.
Each time a winning combination forms (or Dud symbols), they will be removed from the grid, and all remaining symbols in view will collapse downwards. New symbols will then drop in from above via a Cascade, filling all empty grid positions.
Push Bet
Before you can begin spinning, you will be given the option to activate the Push Bet feature. Choosing to activate this feature will increase your current bet by 20%.
Once active, the Push Bet will increase your chances of triggering the Free Spins round. (RTP 96.34%)
Star Symbols
Star symbols are Multiplier symbols with a random Multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x7, x10, x25x, x50, x100, x250, and x500 attached to them.
When a star symbol lands, it is collected and its Multiplier is added to the Multiplier Counter, multiplying the total win for that particular spin. If more than 1 Star symbol lands, they will be collected and added to the Multiplier Counter.
Collection Boxes
Special Collection Boxes are positioned at the bottom of the grid set. Star symbols that land are added to the Collection Boxes when they land in the bottom-most positions.
The Rat King symbol will be collected in the Collection Boxes when it lands in the bottom-most position. Rat King symbols add an increment to the Free Spins Meter for each Rat King symbol collected for that particular spin.
Rat King Free Spins
Collecting 3, 4, or 5 Rat King Scatters during a single spin will trigger the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15, and 20 Free Spins respectively. Please note, the Multiplier Counter will reset before you enter Free Spins.
During Free Spins, when a Star symbol is collected and its Multiplier value is added to the Multiplier Counter, it will multiply the total win for that particular spin.
The Multiplier Counter will then become inactive until another Multiplier from a Star symbol is added to the Multiplier Counter. This will continue for the duration of Free Spins.
Collecting a Rat King Scatter during this time will award an additional +3 Free Spins.
Rat King Bonus Buy
Those outside the UK will benefit from a Bonus Buy option. Push Gaming has granted players access to 3 Bonus Buy options as follows.
- 3 Rat King Scatters – Awards 10 Free Spins for a total cost of 100x your bet. (RTP 96.58%)
- 4 Rat King Scatters – Awards 15 Free Spins for a total cost of 250x your bet. (RTP96.63%)
- 5 Rat King Scatters – Awards 20 Free Spins for a total cost of 500x your bet. (RTP 96.93%)
Rat King: Our Verdict
Push Gaming’s first scatter pays slot turned out to be a huge success, in our opinion. For them to step outside of their comfort zone and still succeed speaks volumes about Push Gaming’s adaptability, and we’d love to see them venture into ‘uncharted territory’ more often.
Of course, Rat King is in the unfortunate position of being the release immediately after Razor Returns. If we’re talking one game to the next, then Rat King doesn’t quite hold a candle, yet it’s brilliant in its own way. We think the retro theme helps Rat King stand out, yet it’s understandably not a huge focal point for all. We can’t all be retro-loving gamers, but even if you’re not then you’ll find plenty more to love about Rat King.
The features are well built and momentum can quickly build for substantial wins, though there were a few dry spells now and then when we tried it ourselves. When it comes to potential, Rat King tops out at 10,000x the bet. It’s not quite the monster that is Razor Returns, but it’s significant.
Overall, we think Push Gaming are due congratulations on a game unlike anything they’ve tried before. It might be their first foray in the scatter pays genre, but they’ve nailed it.
