Subbuteo Star Striker Slot Review 2024

Light & Wonder are expanding their portfolio with an interesting take on the classic table-top football game, in Subbuteo Star Striker!

Subbuteo is a table-top football game invented by Peter Adolph in 1946 and finally became available to buy in 1947. The first Subbuteo sets which were known as Assembly Outfits consisted of goals made from wire with paper nets, a cellulose acetate ball and cardboard figures. The cardboard figures were soon upgraded to a more heavyweight design in 1967.

With an impressive collection of titles already under their belt, will Subbuteo Star Striker be another worthy slot from Light & Wonder? Subbuteo Star Striker is a 5 reel slot with Cascading reels that trigger an attack by passing the football to members of your team on the pitch at the bottom of the reel set. Get ready to shoot and score in the Shootout Bonus which gives you the choice of 7 targets in the goal, awarding up to 500x.

Have you got what it takes to score the ultimate goal and walk away with the top prize? Let’s play on and find out!

Subbuteo Star Striker Base Game

Subbuteo Star Striker Base Game and Features

Subuteo Star Striker is a 5 reel slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to land 6 or more of the same symbol in any non-adjecent position on the reels.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€30 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.

Subbuteo Star Striker features Cascading Reels. Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will be removed from the reels and new symbols will fall down via a Cascade. Once a Cascade occurs, there is a chance that more winning combinations will form.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying symbol in Subbuteo Star Striker is the Gold Cup, followed by the Suit and Football Shirt. Medium paying symbols fall to Football Boots, Whistle and Stopwatch. The lowest paying symbols are the Football Ticket, Red & Yellow Cards and Gloves. There is no Wild symbol present in Subbuteo Star Striker.

Subbuteo Star Striker does not offer any distinguishing features in the base game but there is the frequently triggering Shootout Bonus to look forward to. Another nice touch is the Prize Chart on the left side of the reel set which shows you the exact amount each symbol win is worth.

Subbuteo Star Striker Shootout Bonus

In order to trigger the Shootout Bonus round, you will need to achieve 4 Cascading Wins during any one base game spin. Each Cascading win will pass the football from Goalkeeper to Defender, Midfielder and Striker till it reaches the other Goal.

Once the Shootout Bonus round is triggered, you will be met with the opposition Goalkeeper in the middle of the Goal, which is surrounded by 7 Targets. Choose 1 of the Target positions and take your shot at the Goal.

If a Goal is scored, the Cash Prize behind the target will be awarded up to a maximum of 500x your current bet. If the shot is missed or saved, no Cash Prize is awarded.

Subbuteo Star Striker: Our Verdict

Scatter Pay style slots are appearing left, right and centre recently and it’s not the first time Light & Wonder has chosen this type of mechanic in one of their own, in Summer Vibes Accumul8. Although Subbuteo Star Striker isn’t as appealing as Summer Vibes Accumul8, its simple gameplay and footy theme will stand out to a certain kind of player.

Subbuteo Star Striker is a nice and easy slot to understand. There is no complicated features or Free Spins round here to confuse things which can be a good or bad thing depending on the type of player you are. Ultimately, if you’re partial to a feature or two you may be better off elsewhere.

The Shootout Bonus makes a nice change from the usual Free Spins or Hold & Win rounds we’re used to seeing, but the excitement of triggering this round doesn’t last very long and it’s over pretty quick. That being said, we found the Shootout Bonus not that tricky to achieve so there is no reason why you can’t enjoy it more than once.

Subbuteo Star Striker has a slightly lower RTP than we’re used to seeing which sits at 95.04% and can drop even lower to 88.88%, and a slightly eye-watering maximum win capacity of 534x.

Subbuteo Star Striker isn’t Light & Wonder’s best release to date, but it’s a good option for football fans, or fans of Lower Volatility slots.
