Hacksaw Gaming, originally known for its extensive Scratchcard collection, are now renowned for its illustrious portfolio of innovative slots. Within this portfolio is a handful of Oriental-themed slot releases, including Shaolin Master, Aiko and the Wind Spirit, and Densho, to name a few.
In Asian cultures, certain animals, whether big or small, are considered symbolic – take the Giant Panda, for example, which symbolises peace, harmony, and friendship. Base Game & Features
Tiger Legends is the latest medium volatility release from Hacksaw Gaming, consisting of 5 reels, 4 rows, and 1,024 ways to win. Winning combinations are established when 3, 4, or 5 identical symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1.
The Tiger acts as the highest-paying symbol in the game, awarding payouts of 5x, 7.5x, & 10x your bet for 3, 4, or 5-of-a-kind. The 8 remaining symbols include 3 characters and card suits, A, K, Q, J, & 10, worth between 0.1x and 3x your bet.
Additionally, Wild symbols, in the form of Scrolls, appear on all reels, substituting for all symbols except Scatters as part of a winning combination. Scatter symbols are responsible for triggering Free Spins, but do not appear above Legendary Frame Warriors on the same reel.
Legendary Frame Warriors
Each of the 4 High-paying symbols can appear on the reels with a special Legendary Frame. When they do, the symbol with the Legendary Frame will expand to cover part or the entire reel they land on, so long as they are part of at least 1 winning combination.
Legendary Frames are only able to expand upwards until they reach the top of the reel set. Legendary Frames are more profitable when they expand from a lower reel position, acting as individual instances of the revealed symbol.
Please note that only 1 Legendary Frame symbol can appear on any of the 5 reels in a single spin.
Tiger Legends Free Spins
The Claws of Destiny Free Spins mode is triggered when 3 FS Scatters land within the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.
This mode maintains the same mechanics and structure from the base game, with an increased chance of landing Legendary Frame symbols. Finally, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards a further +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.
Battle of the Beasts
Alternatively, players can trigger the Battle of the Beasts Free Spins mode by landing 4 FS Scatters in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.
Again, this feature maintains the same functions and mechanics from the Claws of Destiny mode. In addition, when a win occurs and a Legendary Frame expands, all instances of the same type will also expand into Legendary Frames.
Finally, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Tiger Legends has a maximum win capacity of 10,000x your bet. If a single game session exceeds this, the current mode ends, and the player returns to the base game with the qualifying amount.
Our Honest Verdict
Despite the high-energy theme and adorable characters, Tiger Legends failed to get us into the Karate spirit. This game paves the way for more expanding symbols, as part of Hacksaw Gaming’s ‘go-to mechanic, but it’s not quite as heroic as we’d envisioned.
Occasionally, high-paying symbols may appear as Legendary Frames on the reels. It’s only when they are part of at least 1 winning combination that you will see them achieve their full potential. Even after expansion, these symbols are limited in how far they expand, depending on where they’re currently positioned.
Like the Wild symbols in RIP City, only in a different direction, Legendary Frames expand upwards until they reach the topmost reel position. Frustration quickly turns to rage each time Legendary Frames fall upon the higher reel positions.
With Legendary Frames being so temperamental on 1,024 ways to win, it’s not worth thinking about how difficult it would have been on Hacksaw’s odd pay lines system. Had that been the case, the game would not have been worth your time, in our opinion.
Still, there’s light at the end of the tunnel in terms of Free Spins, where each of the two modes has an increased chance of landing Legendary Frames. In true Hacksaw fashion, the second mode has a much higher appeal. In Battle of the Beasts, each Legendary Frame will transform all other instances of its kind into the same format.
During testing, we managed to obtain a fair amount of Legendary Frames on the reels, but they almost always failed to connect as winning combinations. However, when they did, it was coincidentally when they were at their shortest and least profitable expansion.
What would have really kicked this feature off is the addition of Multipliers upon each expanded symbol, or even a Global Multiplier during Free Spins, either of which would have been impactful and appreciated.
All in all, Tiger Legends helped us sharpen our Karate skills, but it failed to make its way onto our list of Hacksaw favourites.
