The iGaming market has recently seen an influx of sequels and spin-offs for games that originally stood out for their innovation, creativity, and clever mechanical design. While the return of a popular game naturally creates anticipation, new additions can be inconsistent in their execution, and the Wild Swarm series exemplifies this dynamic.
The first two instalments adhered to a defined structure and thematic identity, reinforcing what players already associated with the series. From the third instalment onwards, however, the direction of gameplay shifted. Rather than simply upgrading prime features & mechanics, Push Gaming has taken the series in a new direction, but does it work?
If you’re familiar with Wild Swarm Triple Hive, the parallels here are immediately apparent. Much of the thematics, features, & mechanics remain the same, most notably the ‘3 Pots’ mechanic. It is a feature that has become increasingly dominant across the iGaming industry, including Push Gaming’s more recent portfolio of games.
The similarities between the two releases are so symmetrical that it is difficult to see this as anything other than a seasonal reskin, timed around the upcoming Easter festivities. Beyond this, the underlying features and mechanics remain largely unchanged.
If you were hoping for a return of the Hive Meter & Swarm Mode that defined the first two releases, you’ll be disappointed.
