Stargate Megaways Slot Demo Gameplay
Stargate Megaways Slot Review 2022
Stargate Megaways from SG Digital is the latest in SG’s branded slot list and it’s safe to say it’s turning some heads already.
Stargate is a military science fiction television series with evident success through its immense fanbase, print publications, films, television series and perhaps the very pinnacle of its success, slots. Okay, we’re slightly biased, but it’s still true to say that Stargate’s success is undeniable.
Sci-fi fans from all over the world have followed the series with dedication since 1994, and now the slotters among them gets to relive the interstellar adventure in slot form. Who knows, perhaps Stargate Megaways could even create some new Stargate fans?
First impressions of Stargate Megaways evokes memories of Montezuma Megaways in a sense, which used a similarly rounded design for the top track atop the reels, but we suspect that the similarities end there. What else lies beneath the surface…or should we say, beyond the stars?
Stargate Megaways: The Base Game and Features
Stargate Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win.
The betting options for players here range from £/€0.20 to £/€10 per spin, and the highest paying symbols in the game are 3 character symbols who we won’t pretend that we know, and a Spaceship and Pyramid symbol. Lower paying symbols are simply Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10 and 9. There’s also a Wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols except the Eye of RA symbol.
In terms of forming a win, you’ll need to connect at least 3 of any symbol from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, to form a win. Winning symbols disappear from view, which causes new symbols to fall into place via a cascade mechanic, which fills empty spaces with new symbols for more possible combinations.
Despite the unconventional shape, the top tracker above the reels works in the way it always has by delivering symbols from right to left to provide possible winning combinations. If symbols in the tracker are a part of a combination, then it’ll disappear before all other symbols slide left.
All in all, Stargate Megaways is extremely similar, if not identical, to how the most conventional Megaways Slots function. However, things start to get a little different when you trigger one of the trail modifiers.
The Trail in Stargate Megaways is displayed beside the reel and is numbered 1-9.
Each winning cascade increments the trail by +1, and upon reaching 5 a random modifier is activated. Reaching 7 segments triggers Free Spins.
Here are the potential modifiers for reaching Trail 5
- Random Wilds – up to 6 Wilds added to reels 2-5
- Expanded Reels to add more symbols Up to a maximum of 117,649 ways
- Wild Reel – Will turn one reel Wild. Applies to reels 2-5
- Mystery Symbols – A maximum of 10 Mystery Symbols added
- Regenerate – Clears board and drops symbols.
This sort of feature can be a little hit or miss. It seems to have worked well in Iron Dog Studio games for the most part, with a couple of frustrating ones mixed in, like Megaways Jack.
SG Digital has seemingly gone to lengths to ensure that there are ample features to propel you into Free Spins, but there will understandably be some who prefer the good old fashioned scatter mechanic instead. Whichever team you’re on, you can’t say that Stargate Megaways hasn’t boosted its attractiveness with this range of features.
As always though, Free Spins is the brightest star in the sky, and you’ll be blazing towards it at light speed for a chance at those big prizes.
Stargate Megaways Free Spins
The multiplier trail comes into effect once more to trigger Free Spins.
Once you’ve progressed the Trail to at least 7, then you’re awarded Free Spins. More spins are awarded if you’re lucky enough to get further cascades beyond the seventh.
- 7 Cascades – 5 Free Spins
- 8 Cascades – 6 Free Spins
- 9 Cascades – 7 Free Spins
Before Free Spins you’ll also enter a ‘Pick Me’ round in which you’re presented with 15 doors. You’ll get 7 picks here, and if a door reveals a matching symbol, then you’re awarded a modifier that carries into Free Spins.
The available modifiers are as follows:
- Additional Free Spins – 1-25 Free Spins
- Win Multiplier – Wins are multiplied by the awarded Win Multiplier
- Ways Increase – Each spin will guarantee more ways than the previous spin until the maximum number of ways is reached
- Reincarnate – If an Eye of Ra symbol lands, then Free Spins are reset. The Eye of Ra symbol is only available during Free Spins and on reel 6.
- Cash Prizes – Cash Prizes from x5 – x100.
- Wild Gates – Additional Wilds on the top reel
- Expanding Wilds – Landing wilds cover the entire reels. Between reels 2-5 only.
There’s certainly a lot going on in Free Spins, and they’re all features that really enhance the overall appeal of Stargate Megaways.
Stargate Megaways Bonus Buy
If you’re reading from inside of the UK then you already know the drill, no bonus buys.
However, if you’re from outside of the UK then there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to use the Bonus Buy feature
There’s a fair amount of choice awarded to you here as well, with an option to buy in at different levels.
- Trail 5 Modifier (Feature) – 31.5x
- Segment 7 (5 Free Spins) – 45.5x
- Segment 8 (6 Free Spins) – 72.5x
- Segment 9 (7 Free Spins) – 123.5x
All pretty reasonably priced, to be honest.
Stargate Megaways Slot – Our Verdict
Branded Slots, in our experience, are pretty hit or miss.
Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the original series, then there’s a good chance that you might disregard Stargate Megaways entirely. Sci-Fi and Stargate Megaways itself will appeal to a very specific set of people, so Stargate Megaways will probably go unnoticed by many as a hidden treasure, set aside because of its appeal to a specific fanbase.
We’re not particularly that into Sci-fi ourselves, and we’ll be the first to admit that we probably underestimated Stargate Megaways ourselves when we first looked at it. It’s not exactly a visual masterpiece, but the appeal of Stargate Megaways became evident as we played it.
Stargate Megaways is packed with ample features in both the Base Game and in Free Spins. There were regular moments of excitement in both the Trail 5 Feature and within the bonus itself, but getting the Trail up to sector 7 to trigger Free Spins can be a bit of a grind sometimes.
At its best, Stargate Megaways is said to be capable of 25,000x. As formidable as this sounds, we feel like Megaways slots just aren’t amazing at putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to win caps. Despite our hesitancy in believing the maximum potential of Stargate Megaways, we don’t doubt that it can deliver some brilliant wins given the right circumstances, and overall we’re pretty impressed with it.
