The Goonies Return Slot is an upcoming Blueprint Gaming instalment that follows on from the original game that has renowned popularity due to it’s exciting gameplay and recognisable theme.
The Goonies Slot released back in 2018, and it proved to be an instant success and continues to be a success. This is evident by the popularity that the game still has today – even this long after its release The Goonies is still frequently asked for on stream. But what makes The Goonies Slot so special?
Well for one, The Goonies Slot was a huge hit because of its branding. The Goonies was released in 1985, but it has earned lasting popularity through the years as one of the greatest family films around.
The exploits of Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Data and Chunk are legendary, and the truffle shuffle lives on in eternal fame as a hilarious part of the film, referenced by many all these years later.
Countless awards and continual recognition of The Goonies made it eternal, and it gave The Goonies Slot the recognisable theme it needed to be exciting from the get go on that alone, but how did they build upon it to make the game more than just a branded Slot?
Other games have certainly tried to capitalise on the popularity of the performing arts, falling short on gameplay making for a mediocre game.
The Goonies Slot knew better, with so much going for it in terms of features.
A big part of the success enjoyed by The Goonies Slot was the Base Game Features, utilising the Copper Bones Skeleton Key which triggered the One-Eyed Willy’s Riches.
Let’s revisit some of these features that we were all so fond of
There was certainly a lot to keep you entertained in the Base Game, and it was made more exciting by the much wanted but ever elusive red key, which triggered one of the features like the normal feature but with a bigger pay out.
The Goonies Slot didn’t stop there with its features. The bonus had a lot more to be excited about.
Fratelli’s hideout and the Skeleton Organ Bonus were the least exciting of the bunch – a lot more excitement was reserved for the Super Sloth Free Spins, Goonies Go Wild Free Spins, Inferno Free Spins and the best of the bunch, One Eyed Willy’s Treasure Bonus.
If you weren’t happy with your bonus you could even gamble for the next one.
With so much to experience, The Goonies is a favourite for many. It definitely makes you wonder what Blueprint Gaming could possibly do in a sequel.
Could it be that The Goonies Return Slot is actually The Goonies Return Megaways? It’s very possible, and it wouldnt be the first game to get a Megaways makeover, that much is evident by looking at games like Kong and Ted, which both started off as non Megaways games.
Blueprint will need to pull it out the bag if they’re to make it as popular as the original, and you do wonder if they’ll be able to pack it full of features like the original if it is a Megaways title.
Ted Megaways is an example of a game that ditched a lot of its features in favour of the Megaways mechanic, and while the game was a success, there will certainly be people who are expecting a lot more, especially with the standing that The Goonies Slot has.
There are many different Directions that Blueprint Gaming could take when reinventing The Goonies.
The first and most obvious would obviously be The Goonies Return Megaways. Blueprint certainly have a history in taking this route, which is proven by the likes of The Return of Kong Megaways, Ted Megaways, Wish Upon a Jackpot Megaways, and Genie Jackpots Megaways.
History may repeat itself yet again, so The Goonies Return Megaways may well be the obvious choice. However, could it be that Blueprint decide to go another direction?
Grid format games aren’t exactly Blueprint’s forté, with a select few like DragonFall in this category, but its entirely possible. There are certainly other games that Blueprint could draw inspiration from if they were to make The Goonies Return Slot a Grid Format game, even though this inspiration would probably have to come from providers who have done it better.
Blueprint have a real chance here to make The Goonies Return one of the biggest releases of 2021, and while a Megaways version of the game will excite some, there are probably others out there who are dying for Blueprint to take a more inventive approach, after having stuck the Megaways badge on a sufficient number of games before.
Any predictions about The Goonies Return is of course, pure speculation at this point, but the movie and the history of The Goonies is so rich that the story of The Goonies told in Slot format, as well as Blueprint gamings aptitude in making a compelling game, may still yet hold surprises in new features that breathe fresh life into a massively popular game.
