Get ready to steal your way to infamy in Pragmatic Play’s latest release, The Great Stick-Up!
Pragmatic Play are up to their usual tricks, delivering a brand new release not long after the last one. This can either be a good or bad thing for their slots, meaning they may not have been given the attention they needed to become a success with players, with some being considered rushed.
The title tells us that Pragmatic Play has opted for an old western crime theme, which is not an uncommon choice amongst Providers, but will The Great Stick-Up outdo the likes of Tombstone from Nolimit City? Let’s play on and find out!
The Great Stick-Up is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbol types from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with a selection of bets in between the two.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in The Great Stick-Up is the Lady, followed by the Men with the Green, Purple and Blue backgrounds and the Revolver. Low paying symbols fall to the Cash, Map, Handcuffs, Hat, Magnifying Glass and Pipe. There is also a Wild symbol present, which substitites for all symbols except Scatters.
Unlike many other Pragmatic Play titles, The Great Stick-Up does not have any kind of thrilling feature to fall back on in the base game. For those of you who have love a bit of action in a base game, you certainly won’t be finding any here. Let’s hope that Pragmatic Play has exceeded our expectations in the Free Spins round.
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 2x, 10x and 100x your current bet respectively. Regardless of how many Scatters that land during the initial trigger, you will still receive 7 Free Spins.
During the Free Spins round, whenever a Sticky Mystery symbol lands in view, it will remain fixed in its position until the end of the Free Spins round. After every Free Spin, all Sticky Mystery symbols present will open to reveal a different High or Low-paying symbol, based on the progressive feature.
The progressive feature has the ability to increase all values of the symbol the Sticky Mystery symbol reveals. This feature will always start with the lowest paying symbol first, making it’s way through the symbols to the highest paying. When the Free Spins round begins, all Sticky Mystery symbols will reveal the Lowest paying symbol first.
By collecting 2 Scatters which will appear attached to any High or Low-paying symbol, will automatically upgrade the current Sticky Mystery symbol to the next available one, awarding +1 Free Spin. If the progression feature reaches the Highest paying symbol, the feature will be unable to retrigger further.
If the maximum win capacity of 5,000x is reached, the Free Spins round will immediately end and all remaining free spins will be forfeited.
You may disagree with us, but we feel that the word ‘Great’ in the title is too strong a word for this slot. We love the idea of a retro 60’s crime theme as much as the next person, but it seems that Pragmatic Play has failed to deliver.
Don’t get us wrong, The Great Stick-Up certainly looks the part, with some really nice graphics and strong character symbols, but these qualities are simply not enough to make up for the lack of features in the base game, which will definitely leave a bad taste in certain players mouths.
The Free Spins round certainly offers up some much-needed fun and excitement, but this only lasts for a short while or until you realise there isn’t much in the way of potential to be had, with the maximum win capacity being capped at 5,000x.
We can appreciate what Pragmatic Play was trying to achieve here, but unfortunately The Great Stick-Up won’t be sticking with us any time soon.
