Treasures of the Dead introduces us to Lucksome’s latest Hyperlines mechanic. With a little help from Wild Scatters, collecting Scarabs will activate the Hyperlines mechanic, meaning extra lines with win Multipliers!

Treasures of the Dead Base Game and Features

Treasures of the Dead is a 5 reel slot with 10 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbols) land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€200 per spin, with plenty of other options inbetween the two. Treasures of the Dead has a theoretical RTP of 96.2% and a max win cap of 15,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is Amber Wild, followed by the Pharoahs with Red and Green backgrounds and Bastet. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.

Book Scatters act as Wilds, substituting for all High and Low-paying symbols in the paytable. The wild scatter symbol may spawn a Scarab Beetle that helps activate a Hyperline or upgrade the Mutliplier on an active Hyperline.

Hyperlines

Hyperlines are extra win lines with Multipliers that need to be activated by collecting Scarabs from Book Scatters. Winning combinations formed on an active Hyperline will be multiplied by the current Multiplier value on the Hyperline.

Activating Hyperlines in the base game will require 3 Scarabs to be collected for each row on the reel set. Once enough is collected, the inactive Hyperline will activate on the next spin.

An inactive Hyperline can be activated during the current spin if more than 3 Scarabs are collected. Additional Scarabs above 3 will increment the corresponding Hyperline Multiplier before calculating wins for the current spin.

Once a Hyperline is active, the stored Scarabs will gradually increase the Hyperline Multiplier on consecutive spins, 1 Scarab per spin. If any new Scarabs appear during this time, they will upgrade the Multiplier on that particualr Hyperline.

Hyperlines deactivate when a win has been awarded on the Hyperline and there are no more stored Scarabs remaining.

Treasures of the Dead Free Spins

Landing 3 or more Book Scatters across the reels will trigger the Free Spins round. The number of Multiplier increments awarded at the start of the round is equal to the number of triggering Wild Scatters.

The number of Multiplier increments awarded is then distributed between the Hyperlines. The first 3 increments are distributed evenly, the remaining increments are randomly applied.

At the start of the round, you will be given a High or Low-paying symbol at random which will become your Expanding Symbol (excluding Wilds) for the duration of the Free Spins round.

In typical ‘Book’ tradition, landing enough instances of your chosen symbol across the reels, will expand to fill the entire reels they are on, regardless of their position on the reels. The special expanding symbol will only expand when additional winning combinations can be awarded.

In addition to this, all Hyperlines are active throughout the Free Spins round. Landing 3 Wild Scatters on the reels will award an additional +10 Free Spins.

Treasures of the Dead: Our Verdict

Treasures of the Dead by Lucksome looks like a standard egyptian book game at first glance, but there’s more than meets the eye in the newest addition to the biggest family there is.

Book of Ra and legends akin to it had an unprecedented butterfly effect in the industry of slots. Fast forward a few years later, and here we are with hundreds of them to choose from. It’s a competitive market, but does Treasures of Dead stand out in a crowd?

Its innovative Hyperlines feature certainly makes it unique in its own way, and its refreshing to see once you’ve seen so many that are too similar. Not much kudos can be given for its theme because many rest on the laurels of the staple Egyptian mien, and if we’re honest we much prefer the look of those that have dared to take it in a different direction, like Nolimit City did with Book of Shadows.

all in all, Treasures of the dead is a very capable game with winning potential of up to 15,000x, which is much better than many others out there.

It’s not a complete reinvention of the wheel, but it’s a nice change with a spark of individuality.
