It’s time to get spooky with Hacksaw Gaming and their latest horrific release, Undead Fortune.

Of course, we don’t mean horrific in the derogatory sense, but instead as a compliment to their ability to create a really immersive and very in-deph horror based game. We’ve said it in the past, but Hacksaw are either doom and gloom or rainbows and sunshine. Some of their lighter games just don’t cut it for us.

Hand of Anubis, Itero, Gladiator Legends and Chaos Crew just pop out to us as memorable titles, while Dork United, Double Rainbow and Tasty Treats just feel a bit tame.

Undead Fortune certainly looks the complete opposite of tame, and we’re looking forward to a night of horror as we descend into October and all the spook that comes with it.

Undead Fortune Base Game and Features

Undead Fortune is a 5 reel slot with 10 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol types land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Undead Fortune has a theoretical RTP of 96.29% and a maximum win capacity of 10,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Undead Fortune is Horus, followed by Anubis, Pharoah, Bastet and the Mummy. Low paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten. There is also a Wild symbol present which substitutes for all High and Low-paying symbols. The Curse and Tomb Scatter symbols are present only in the base game, appearing on reels 1, 3 and 5.

Hacksaw Gaming are building upon their popular DuelReels feature that has appeared in Gladiator Legends and Warrior Ways before this, through the Walking and Expanding Duels features with additional functionality. More on these below!

Walking Duels

During any random spin in the base game, landing a Walk VS symbol across the reels activates the Walking Duels feature.

Once acitve, Walking Duels will expand to fill the entire reel and act as a Wild symbol, revealing a monster and a Multiplier value of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6,x7, x8, x9, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x150 or x200 at the top.

If the monster is slayed, the Multiplier will be applied to any wins that are part of the Duel. If more than one Walking Duels are part of the same winning combination, both their Multiplier values will be added together and then applied to all wins.

Slaying the monster in at least 1 Duel automatically awards a Respin. Duels where the monster was slayed will remain active on the reel set and will begin to walk across the reels. Each active Wlaking Duel will walk from one reel to another towards the left-most reel, unless it is blocked by the edge of the reel set or another Walking Duel.

During the Respin, additional Walk VS symbols can land in view which will then activate another Walking Duel. All active Walking Duels will spawn a new monster to slay and the process begins again.

Expanding DuelReels

During the base game, landing an Expand VS symbol on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 activates the Expanding Duels feature. Please note that only 1 Expand VS symbol can land at any one time.

Once active, the Expand VS symbol will expand to fill the entire reel and acts as a Wild symbol, revealing a monster and a Multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x150 or x250 at the top.

If the monster is slayed, the Multiplier at the top is secured at the bottom of the Duel. The Expanding Duel will then grow and fill the next reel to the left of it, unless it is blocked by the edge of the reel set, triggering a new duel with another monster and repeating the process.

If for whatever reason the monster is not slayed or the Expanding Duel cannot grow any further, the Multiplier that is saved at the bottom is then applied to the entire Duel. Any winning combinations that are formed using the expanding duel will be multiplied by the value of the Multiplier.

Undead Fortune Free Spins

Like many Hacksaw Gaming titles, Undead Fortune has not one but two exciting Bonus Games available known as The Curse and The Tomb. All landed Tomb and Curse Scatters will turn into Wilds if they are part of a winning combination or if they trigger a Bonus round.

The Curse

Landing 3 Curse Scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 triggers The Curse Bonus round, awarding 10 Free Spins. During the Free Spins round, there is a greater chance of landing Walk VS and Expand VS symbols.

The Tomb

Landing 3 Tomb Scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5, triggers The Tomb Bonus round. During this round, only Tomb VS, Epic VS, Unlock, Golden Unlock and non-paying symbols are present.

The round begins with all 5 reels having a starting Multiplier value of x1 at the top, with reels 1 and 5 locked and the remaining 3 active. Landing Tomb VS symbols will expand to fill the reel, revealing a monster and a Multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x150 or x200 at the top.

If the monster is defeated, the Multiplier value will be added to the total Multiplier above the corresponding reel. If for whatever reason the monster is not defeated, the Corresponding reel will become locked. The Bonus round will end when all 5 reels are locked simultaneously and the total Multiplier values above the reels are awarded.

During the round, locked reels can become unlocked by landing 4 Unlock symbols on a reel, which can be seen through the cutouts on each locked reel. Landing a Golden Unlock symbol will automatically unlock all locked reels at the same time.

If an Epic VS symbol appears on the reels, it will automatically trigger Epic Tomb Duels. Once active, the entire reel set is transformed into one epic duel with 3 monsters and a multiplier that can be either Adding or Multiplying, with values of x25, x50, x100, x150 or x200 and x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x15 or x20 respectively.

Undead Fortune: Our Verdict

Undead Fortune is the kind of Hacksaw Slot that we love.

It’s no secret that we’re not fans of their lighter side, but we’re not morbid, we just think they do them so well. The design here is impeccable, and when it comes to horror related graphcis we think Hacksaw Gaming are up there with the best, if not THE best.

Halloween is around the corner so if you’re an autumnal person who loves the spooky chill of fright night then Undead Fortune could be your go-to choice. Undead Fortune truly is immaculate in what it portrays, but how does the gameplay look? An enthusiastic design can only get you so far, and the gameplay will need to be top shelf if it’s to stand with other compelling Hacksaw titles.

Undead Fortune takes a lot of inspiration from other titles, with Duels that remind us of those in Wanted Dead or a Wild, and multipliers atop the reels that takes us all the way back to Chaos Crew.

Hacksaw Gaming are quite proficient in refeshing features for a new experience, but it does feel like a bit of a bonus buy slot (like all their other games) which could be a bit of a turn off for UK players.

Still, UK regulation isn’t Hacksaw’s issue, and they’ve obviously got their formula right; that much is evident in their popularity.

Win potential looks good here too with up to 10,000x available as a maximum win.

Overall, Hacksaw Gaming has blossomed beautifully into a stand-out provider with a catalogue of slots that make an impression, and Undead Fortune certainly does that.
