Hand of Anubis and Klowns (being one of their more recent releases) also reveal a darker characteristic, whilst games like Dork Unit and their ongoing Le Bandit series show us the cute and cuddly side to Hacksaw.

Base Game & Features

Consisting of 5 reels, 4 rows, and 14 fixed pay lines, Beast Below constructs winning combinations when 3 or more matching symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1.

The highest-paying symbol falls to the Purple Sea Creature, followed by additional sea creatures and A, K, Q, J, & 10 card suits. Lastly, Wild symbols appear on all reel positions, substituting for all symbols when completing a winning combination.

Expanding Sirens

During the base game, special Expanding Siren symbols can randomly land across the reels. Siren symbols are Wild symbols that expand upward to the very top of the reel they are on. These symbols will only expand if they are part of at least 1 winning combination.

Each expanded Siren symbol will reveal a random Multiplier between x2 and x200 that is applied to any winning combinations that the Siren is a part of.

If more than 1 Siren symbol is part of the same winning combination, both Multiplier values will be added together and then applied to the win. Please note that only one Siren symbol can appear on each reel at any one time.

Beast Below Free Spins

Triggering The Siren’s Call Free Spins mode requires 3 FS Scatters to land in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.

In this mode, there is an increased chance of landing Siren symbols compared to the base game. In addition, a special Pink Siren symbol also becomes available. The Pink Siren, once expanded, remains on its reel and gradually nudges down 1 position with each spin, revealing a Multiplier between x2 and x200 as it does.

Finally, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Down Below

The Down Below Free Spins mode is triggered when 4 FS Scatters land in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.

During Free Spins, a special Expanding Diver symbol will come into play. When it appears, it expands into a full Diver reel. Divers are Wild Multipliers that remain on the reels for a limited time after expanding.

Each expanded Diver symbol will start with 3 Oxygen Charges. Once an Oxygen Charge reaches 0, it is removed from play at the end of that spin.

At the start of each Free Spin, a Diver symbol may move to an adjacent reel by consuming 1 Oxygen Charge. When this happens, the Diver’s Multiplier is also updated. Divers will appear with a random Multiplier between x2 and x200.

If more than 1 Diver symbol is part of the same winning combination, both Multipliers will be added together and applied to wins. Please note that a maximum of 3 Diver symbols can appear on a spin at the same time.

Finally, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Our Honest Verdict

First, we want to begin by praising Hacksaw Gaming for their creative artwork available in Beast Below. Hacksaw Gaming have quite a reputation for engaging features and mechanics, but they’re also renowned for their impressive graphics and stunning visuals.

The sea has many secrets and can be a rather dangerous place, with so much yet to be discovered, but did Hacksaw Gaming reveal all in Beast Below?

Beast Below is very ‘Hacksaw Gaming’ indeed. If you take away its layers and remove the many recognisable characteristics, you could probably still tell it was a Hacksaw release. This game focuses on Expanding Multipliers as the main attraction, which can reveal Multipliers up to x200.

As expected from a Hacksaw Gaming slot, we can find plenty of entertainment in the two Free Spins modes. Of the two, Down Below proves to be the more promising, although it’s actually considered a lower volatility score than The Siren’s Call.

In this round, Hacksaw Gaming has introduced Expanding Wild Divers, which unfortunately come with an expiration date (or clock if you want to be specific). While both modes have their moments of potential and absolute disgust, they’re both able to produce up to 10,000x in max win potential.

All in all, Beast Below is a successful and rewarding instalment from Hacksaw Gaming. We had high hopes for this developer from the start, and years after Beast Below was released, Hacksaw Gaming is still one of the best software developers in the iGaming industry.
