Candy Island Princess Overview

Play’n GO are on a steady pace this year with a release train that introduces new and exciting games regularly, and Candy Island Princess is the next stop.

Along the way, we’ve seen more of the Rich Wilde games that we know and love, a nod to metalheads in Hammerfall, and we’ve even seen pyromaniac amphibians in Fire Toad.

Candy Princess Island is a game that certainly doesn’t follow your conventional theme. Nobody would have been surprised to see an Aztec, Egyptian, Roman or Wild West theme…but we bet you wasn’t quite expecting anime.

The first with this style since Moon Princess, Candy Island Princess will resonate very well with perhaps a very specific set of people, which makes it a little bit of a risky move from Play’n GO.

Anime is absolutely huge in Japan, and it’s influence has been seen across the world in select anime titles that have captured the hearts of many worldwide. Despite this, some still find the concept of these cultural and sometimes overly sexualised cartoons too strange to comprehend.

Moon Princess was proof enough to many that you don’t need to be an anime fan to love what Play’n GO do and what they can produce. Can Candy Island Princess do the same?

Candy Island Princess Theme

Candy Island Princess takes us to the annual centennial with a contest to find the new face of the Candy Coating Company.

Set on an exotic island, you’ll join the games host Bon Bon in the search for the new Candy Girl Queen.

Candy Island Princess offers what Play’n GO are calling an intense audio visual experience along with an incredibly unique storyline.

In the background you’ll see paradise but all eyes are on the contestants in Candy Island Princess!

Anime style games are few and far between, so the theme and design of Candy Island Princess will more than satiate any appetite of those with a fixation around Japanese Culture.

Candy Island Princess – The Base Game and Features

Candy Island Princess has opted for a more simple reel structure compared to their other games, and something that could be considered a little more classic.

Candy Island Princess has a 3×3 play area with 5 Pay lines in total.

To connect a win, you simply need 3 symbols to connect via one of the 5 pay lines. When this happens with one of the contestants, a Candy Splash Feature will trigger.

The Candy Splash feature causes these symbols to expand, which means that the symbol will then pay out on all 5 lines. This does not occur when a win is connected with mixed contestant symbols.

Instant Prizes can also be won in Candy Island Princess via the Camera Scatter Symbols

Behind the Scenes

Once 3 Camera Scatters have landed you’ll get one of 6 instant prizes.

These can be 5x, 10x, 20x, 80x, 500x and 2000x

On its own it doesn’t seem like much of a bonus round, even with the excitement of a possible 2000x instant win.

Thankfully Candy Island Princess has something else up its sleeve with the Free Spins round

Candy Island Princess Free Spins

The Scatter Symbols you’re looking for to trigger the Candy Island Princess Free Spins are those represented by Ticket Symbols.

If 2 of these land, then you’ll trigger a Lucky Re-spin whereby the reel without a Scatter Re-spins for a chance to land the third needed for the Free Spins.

If you land 3, then you’ll enter the Free Spins round.

In this mode, winning combination with mixed Contestant Symbols now trigger the Candy Splash feature.

On the last spin, Ticket symbols are added for a chance to re-trigger the bonus, which can happen up to 5 times.

After the Free Spins you’ll partake in what Play’n GO are calling the ‘Jelly Jiggle Delight’.

This will have you choose 1 of 3 options for a chance to be awarded a x2 multiplier for the winnings accrued in the Free Spins

Candy Island Princess: Our Verdict

Candy Island Princess feels a little bit lazy from Play’n GO when compared to other games.

Moon Princess may have shared an Anime style theme, but that’s about all they share, as the gameplay is completely different. The 3 reel set up may resonate well with players who prefer more of a classic slot style, but those looking for a little bit of high action gameplay may want to look elsewhere. The Candy Splash feature doesn’t offer that many thrills, and the Behind the Scenes feature may offer some instant gratification in the form of prizes but there’s no real anticipation there.

Sadly, the Free Spins don’t do much in upping the anticipation with only a slight tweak to the Candy Splash Feature and the prospect of a x2 Multiplier at the end.

Due to it’s low volatility, the maximum win possible in Candy Island Princess is 2,200x, which may suit those with a fondness for lower volatility games just fine.

Anime hasn’t really taken to the West like it has in places like Japan – Moon Princess did well in breaking the barriers and becoming so popular with such a theme, but most of that is owing to it’s unique gameplay and the excitement that comes with it.

You can’t really bash Candy Princess for being incapable of delivering those unprecedented wins, Play’n GO made it with a lower volatility setting in mind, so it’s exactly what it was meant to be.

Overall, Candy Island Princess won’t go down in history as one of Play’n GO’s best, and it certainly isn’t in the market of knocking Moon Princess off its pedestal – but the silly theme may offer an amusing time to those looking to try out some new slots, and you might just scoop up a small win while you’re at it.
