Travel deep into the Nordic Woods and find the celestial guardians for a chance to find the elusive but alluring Fate of Fortune!
Elk Studios have been very busy of late with new titles, having just released slots like Night Trax, Dream Diver, Tropicool and Nitropolis 2. Dream Diver took us into a world of slumber, Tropicool took us to a chilling paradise and Nitropolis returned us to the gritty underworld.
This time, we’re looking to more mystic horizons as we venture in pursuit of the Fate of Fortune, where 10,000x may await if the celestial guardian feels so inclined to bless you with such riches. Players outside of the UK can be particularly excited with the inclusion of Elk’s amazing X-iter feature once again.
Let’s journey into the forest and see what we can find in Fate of Fortune!
The fate of Fortune Slot Theme
The theme for Fate of Fortune does well to portray the Nordic persona that Elk Studios were aiming for.
Ancient Nordic runes fill the backdrop, and above the reels, you’ll see a mystical celestial guardian lit up in an angelic fashion. You’d do well to notice the crystal ball that she’s holding beneath the reels too, as this will be fundamental to gameplay later on.
Music in Fate of Fortune is great with an upbeat, ancient and tribal feel to it. It was always a pretty safe bet that the music was going to be great. Elk Studios regularly smash it on this front.
Fate of Fortune: Betting and Symbols
The betting options in Fate of Fortune are extensive enough to suit just about anybody hoping to find the Nordic treasure with options that start from £/€0.20 per spin and range to £/€100 per spin. Plenty of options in the middle of the two mean that there is ample choice for everybody here.
The top symbols in Fate of Fortune are the Red, Blue and Green Celestial Guardians, and the low paying symbols are A, K, & Q. There are also several Wild symbols, with some offering different functions to shake up the gameplay.
Fate of Fortune: The Base Game and Features
Fate of Fortune is a 5 reel slot displaying a 5-3-1-3-5 formation. There are 81 connecting pay lines in total, and to form a win you’ll need at least 3 of any symbol to connect on adjacent reels from left to right or right to left.
Wild symbols and Mystery symbols are fundamental in Fate of Fortune. Some Wilds act as plain regular Wilds, but others act very differently.
- Expanding Wild – This Wild appears on reels 2 and 4 and will expand outward to the outer reel, guaranteeing a win.
- Mystery Symbols – Stacked Mystery symbols on reels 1, 2, 4 and 5. All symbols will turn into the same paying symbol.
On their own, the features here seem a little dull. Thankfully, the Fortunes Favor Feature adds even more exciting modifications to exponentially improve both the potential and the playability of Fate of Fortune
Fortune’s Favor
The Crystal Ball at the bottom of the reels may randomly trigger certain features to vastly improve the winning potential.
- Lady Swap – Swaps all Lady High-Value Symbols to a single Lady Symbol
- Multiplier – Random Multiplier up to x50
- Walking Wild – Places a Wild symbol on reel 3, triggering a respin. Wild then splits itself and walks one reel to the left and right. This will continue to do so until the symbol leaves the reels.
- Locked Wild – Places and locks a Wild symbol on reel 3 with a Wild multiplier of x1. If there is no win, then a respin is triggered and the multiplier increases to x2. This process repeats for every non-winning spin until you get a win. Lady Swap and Multiplier Features may also trigger during respins
The Fortune’s Favor Feature really adds a new element to this slot. Multipliers alongside the Walking or Locked Wild Features really gives you the chance to land some significant hits. Initial impressions of this slot weren’t amazing, especially considering that the middle reel may only house one symbol, but these features make up for it.
Fate of Fortune Free Spins
Fate of Fortune Free Spins is triggered when you land 3 or 4 bonus symbols anywhere on the reels in the Base Game.
This mode starts with one guaranteed mystery symbol stack on reels 1, 2, 4 or 5, and the multiplier starts at x1. If you were lucky enough to trigger the bonus with 4 scatters, then you’ll get guaranteed mystery symbol stacks on two reels. All mystery symbol stacks initially land on the first symbol on the top row of their respective reel, and more mystery symbol stacks may land on any position on any reel except for reel 3.
With each spin that goes by, the Mystery Symbol stack will nudge down one row and the multiplier will increase by +1. The Free Spins lasts until no more mystery symbols appear.
Surprisingly, there’s sort of a Razor Shark element in here somewhere. There are no coins sure, but the mystery symbol stacks that keep the bonus going certainly reminds you of it in a sense.
Fate of Fortune Free Spins can definitely induce excitement, but the X-iter Feature and the buy options that come with it may make this slot even more enticing to European players.
X-iter
The X-iter Feature has made an appearance in a few Elk Studios slots now.
Unfortunately, none of them is available to UK players, as some of the higher levels include a bonus buy, Big Bonus and Super Bonus.
- 100% Win – This X-iter Feature costs 5x your bet, and it guarantees a win.
- 100% Fortunes Favor – 3 Spins with Fortun’s Favor in every spin. This feature costs 50x
- Bonus – Guarantees a game round with 3 or 4 Bonus Symbols. This costs 100x
- Big Bonus – Buy a Bonus round with the multiplier starting at x4. Guarantees a game round with 3-4 bonus symbols. This costs 200x
- Super Bonus – Buy a Bonus round with Fortune’s Favor in every spin. Guarantees a game round with 3-4 Bonus Symbols. This costs 500x
The X-iter Features was one of the best Elk implementations to date, but it makes their slots feel somewhat off-limit to those who live in jurisdictions that can’t buy bonuses.
Fate of Fortune Slot: Our Verdict
Fate of Fortune certainly stands out as something a little bit different by Elk Studios if nothing else.
The strange reel configuration and initial impressions weren’t that great, so we envision that some may load it up and become immediately discouraged by what’s on offer here, but if you persist with it then you may find yourself surprised.
The Lady Swap, Multiplier Feature and Wild Features do well to up the ante and clear up any bewilderment about what this slot is all about, and the Free Spins and its Razor Shark-Esque style holds significant potential.
Is Fate of Fortune a significant prospect for UK players? Yes and no. The X-iter Feature is entirely off-limits to those in the UK, so there’s a lot to miss out on in that respect. Thankfully though, Fate of Fortune does hold up well enough in its normal state without these features to make it well worth a try.
The 10,000x maximum win capabilities make Fate of Fortunes very attractive indeed, but those who are wagering should proceed with caution because of its RTP value, which sits at a mere 95%
Fate of Fortunes may not be Elk’s best slot to date, but you’ve got to respect the concept and how they’ve made it a little different from their other slots.
