Despite those that came after it, 1 Million Megaways BC, Megaways Jack and Pirate Kingdom Megaways stand out as fan favourites, but can Rock The Reels take the throne?

We’ve got VIP tickets to watch Freddie and the Pride and we’re ready to rock, so let’s crowd surf our way into this Rock The Reels Megaways Slot Review to see what it’s all about!

Rock the Reels Megaways Base

Rock The Reels Megaways Slot Theme

As you can imagine, Iron Dog Studios have gone all out with the soundtrack for this one. If rock is your genre, then you’re in the right place here with guitar riffs and drum beats that will crank up a notch as you start rolling in the wins. When you’re dealing with a theme that puts a particular emphasis on a music setting, then you naturally have to deliver with the sounds. Thankfully, Rock The Reels Megaways doesn’t disappoint in this aspect, and the visuals look pretty rock n roll too.

To the left of the reels, you’ll see a leopard in her best rock attire, and behind her, you’ll see spotlights, smoke and the stage where Freddie and the Pride turn it up to 11. The character design here is great, and the leopard is very reminiscent of the character design from Relax Gaming’s Iron Bank.

Overall, Iron Dog Studios have done tremendously well in impressing with a rock n roll theme, but are Freddie and the Pride crowd pleasers when it comes to gameplay?

Rock the Reels Megaways: The Base Game and Features

Rock the Reels Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win.

Forming a win will require at least 2 of the highest paying symbol, or 3 of any other symbol to connect on adjacent reels from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. Winning symbols are removed leaving space for new symbols to fall into their place via a cascade, and a sliding reel atop reels 2-5 will deliver symbols from right to left. Winning symbols on sliding reels also disappear, and the remaining symbols will slide left until all spaces are filled.

Megaways slots always has plenty of potential owing to the sheer number of ways to win, and their ability to win more than once on a single spin. Rock the Reels takes winning potential to another level through the bandmate features, which may activate in the Base Game to bring even more excitement.

Rock the Reels Megaways Base Game

Band Members

Band Member symbols may appear on the horizontal reel during the Base Game and Free Spins, and each brings a different feature into play.

  • Warthog – Transforms 2 to 4 symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 into Wilds.
  • Octopus – Transforms 2 to 4 symbols on reels 1, 2, 3 and 4 into random symbols picked from reel 1
  • Flamingo – Transforms 3 to 4 symbols on reels 1, 2 and 3 into high paying symbols
  • Lion – Transforms 2 symbols on reels 2 and 3 into Multiplier Wilds. Multiplier on Wilds in the Base game is always 2. During Free Spins, The Wild Multiplier starts at 2 and increases each time the Lion appears.

This is a great bunch of features to have within the Base Game, and they’ll be all the more important in Free Spins when an incremental Multiplier becomes active. Sometimes the standout difference between an average Megaways Slot and a good one is the Base Game Features. Some may not have any, and you’ll rely entirely on Free Spins to see any sort of real action. Rock The Reels Megaways does brilliantly in keeping you captivated in both the Base Game and Free Spins

Rock The Reels Megaways Free Spins

3, 4, 5 & 6 Scatters award 8, 10, 15 & 20 Free Spins respectively.

Every cascade in Free Spins increments the Multiplier by +1, and Band Member Symbols are active just as they are in the Base Game. The only difference is that the Lion character symbol will increase the multiplier every time he lands.

All of the features together as well as an incremental multiplier makes for significant potential in Rock the Reels Megaways. Sometimes of course, it can fall flat if character symbols are absent or if the connections just aren’t there.

Those outside of the UK have the added benefit of being able to utilise a Bonus Buy Feature, with enhanced options available.

Rock the Reels Megaways – Our Verdict

Iron Dog Studios rarely make a boring Megaways Slot, and Rock the Reels Megaways is no exception. Without the Band Features, Rock the Reels Megaways would have been your run of the mill Megaways slot, but the inclusion of them within both the Base Game and Free Spins makes it stand out as a highly entertaining option for those with a soft spot for Megaways slots.

The theme and idea behind Rock the Reels Megaways is fun and it grabs your attention, and the idea to feature animals in place of humans does well to grab your attention even more. Without them, we think the theme would have been a bit flat considering we’ve seen our fair share of rock-themed slots before.

You can’t say that Rock the Reels Megaways is overly innovative. The features within it aren’t unlike anything we’ve seen before, but we’re grateful to have them all the same. The Lion symbol seems to be the only one that acts differently within Free Spins, we think it would have been even more enthralling if all of the other features were giving the same treatment with features that were exclusive to the Free Spins round only.

Statistically, Rock the Reels Megaways looks solid with an RTP of 96.20% and a maximum win capability of 50,000x. Whether or not Rock the Reels could actually reach this win cap or if it’s just a theoretical maximum remains to be seen, but we’re sure that Rock the Reels Megaways is extremely capable of some massive hits considering all of its features.

Overall, we think Rock the Reels Megaways does a stellar job in offering up some classic Megaways action with a bit of a twist to those with a soft spot for such gameplay, but nothing massively new is on offer here. Are providers running out of ways to utilise the Megaways function in a unique way? For now, we sit and wait to see if someone can change the Megaways world with groundbreaking features.
