Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra Slot Review 2021
Charlie Chance is back once again to continue his unlucky streak in Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra by Play’n GO!
This time, Charlie has made his way to Egypt in the hopes that his luck might finally turn around, but as he explores the dark tombs of bygone Pharaohs, he stumbles across the resting place of Cleopatra.
Needless to say, Cleopatra is less than thrilled about being awoken from her slumber. What more could go wrong for poor Charlie Chance?
Despite how unfortunate Charlie has been thus far, it seems to have the potential to materialise into the opposite for us.
Even though we feel bad for the guy, let’s poke the hornet’s nest and head into the crypts in this Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra Slot Review to see how it all turns out.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra Theme
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra gets its inspiration from an old style of animation called Rubber Hose Animation, this entwined with an Egyptian theme makes for a quirky and sophisticated slot game.
You can’t help but be head over heels with the overall design of Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra, you will notice that colour has only been granted to certain aspects of the slot, mainly the title, the grid and its symbols.
Although we are sure the title of this slot speaks for itself, the background gives us more of an insight into the overall theme of Charlie Chance and the curse of Cleopatra, overlooking a dimly lit Egyptian tomb full of Cleo’s Gold and Jewels.
Located at the bottom left corner you will notice Charlie isn’t taking any chances, hiding in plain sight from Cleopatra inside a treasure chest, occasionally catching a glimpse of Charlie’s beady eyes as he braves a sneak peak.
In sticking with the Rubber Hose Animation, Cleopatra can be seen dancing seductively atop her podium in all her glory, Cleopatra is the only noticeable piece of Rubber Hose Animation on the screen.
The music and sound effects for Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra are fitting for the overall theme, they are snappy and catchy all at the same time.
We love that Play’n Go wishes us ‘Good Luck’ with each spin, but we’re not really sure it’s us that needs it, eh Charlie?

Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra The Base Game and Features
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra is a 6×6 video slot with a cluster pays mechanic. In order to form a win 5 or more of the same symbols need to be touching vertically and/or horizontally.
A winning cluster will then be removed from the grid, and new symbols will fall into place.
Win Multiplier
A win Multiplier can be seen on the left side of the grid starting at 1x, 3 consecutive wins in a row will increase the Multiplier by 1, to a maximum Multiplier of 3x. The Multiplier will reset with each spin.
Cleo’s Columns
During the Base Game, two adjacent reels can synchronize together at random. The synchronized reels will have the same order of symbols when they land.
Charlie Mega Symbol
The Charlie Mega Symbol can only land during Cleo’s columns, either during the initial spin or cascades.
During each cascade, the Charlie mega symbol will be sticky within Cleo’s Columns. Once cascades have landed and all wins are paid, the Charlie Mega Symbol will destroy any low paying symbols that surround it.
The Charlie Mega Symbol will then turn into a mega Wild, which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.
Flying Scarab Wilds
On any random spin in the Base Game, between 5 and 8 Scarab Wilds will fly onto the grid randomly placing themselves over any of the symbols.
Scarab Wilds substitute for all symbols except Scatters.
Serpents Trail
Serpents trail can be triggered on any random non-winning spin in the Base Game, the serpent will appear on any section of the grid highlighting a chain of symbols.
Some of the highlighted symbols will be destroyed, while others are transformed into matching symbols.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra Free Spins
During gameplay in Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra, you have the opportunity to trigger Free Spins. To do this you will need to land a minimum of 3 Scatters.
3 Scatters awards you with 8 Free Spins, for every additional Scatter that lands during trigger, Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra will award you an additional 4 Free Spins.
The current Multiplier you had during the Base Game is then carried into Free Spins. Similar to the Win Multiplier in the Base Game, 3 cascades in a row will up your Multiplier by 1, to a maximum of 10x.
The best part about the Win Multiplier is that it does not reset during Free Spins.
Cleo’s Columns Feature will be active throughout every Free Spin, and the Flying Scarab Wilds and Serpents Trail can also be triggered during Free Spins.
Once Free Spins are completed, normal gameplay will resume.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra Our Verdict
We’ve enjoyed seeing Cleopatra and Charlie come together in Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra, although we can’t imagine poor Charlie has enjoyed it as much as we have.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra is the latest edition to Play’n Go’s portfolio. We’ve come across Charlie Chance in previous slot titles Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay and Charlie Chance XREELZ, so how does this one fare against those?
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra is certainly uplifting, having renounced the usual formula seen previously in other slots.
In terms of statistics, Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra seems to have taken a bit of a backwards step with a lowered potential of 5,500x. Of course, this figure is still nothing to scoff at by any means, and perhaps the change in formula to grid-style gameplay warranted a change in potential.
Overall, Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra doesn’t exactly reinvent the cluster pays formula, but it does well in many other aspects, making for another entertaining spectacle at Charlie Chance’s expense.
