As Cat Wilde steps into the unknown and makes her way through the forbidden Tombs, she must make a series of choices…but one wrong choice and it could all be over.

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead is the latest in a long line of Book of Dead sequels to grace our screens, with Cat Wilde and the Lost Chapter being one of the most recent. None of the latest Book of Dead sequels have managed to top the orginal just yet, but will Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead do just that?

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead Base Game

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead Base Game and Features

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead is a 5 reel slot with 10 fixed paylines. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of any High-paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead is Cat Wilde herself, followed by the Pharoah, Anubis and Scarab Beetle. Low paying symbols are standard, Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten. The Pyramid Scatter also acts as a Wild symbol, which substitutes for all High and Low-paying symbols, except for special Expanding symbols.

The Gamble feature has featured many times before in other Play’n GO ‘Book’ titles, so its no surprise that it’s made an appearance in Cat Wild and the Pyramids of Dead. More on this below.

Gamble Feature

After every base game win, you will be given the option to Gamble your current win for more.

This can be done by correctly guessing the Colour or Suit of a hidden playing Card. Guessing correctly awards a new Prize amount, but guessing incorrectly will result in a loss and the current Prize amount will disappear.

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead Free Spins

The Wild Pyramid symbols also act as Scatters, and by landing 3 or more in any position on the reels, automatically triggers 1 of 3 bonus rounds, awarding an Instant Prize, Jackpot Round or Free Spins. More on these below.

Instant Prize

Once this feature is active, each of the awarded Scatters will reveal their own unique Cash Value of either 5x, 10x, 20x or 100x your current bet. The total amount awarded is then added together and awarded.

Jackpot Round

Once the Jackpot Round is active, the 4 idle Jackpot Prizes above the reels will come into play. During the Jackpot Round, 12 Urns will appear, each containing the Spirit of an ancient Pharoah. Keep choosing Urns until 3 of the same are found, which will then award the coressponding Jackpot Prize. The Jackpot rizes available are as follows.

  • Khufu – Awards 20x your current bet.
  • Tiye – Awards 100x your current bet.
  • Tutankhamun – Awards 250x your current bet.
  • Mereneith – Awards 1,000x your current bet.

The available Jackpot Prizes are based on the total number of Scatters that landed during the intial trigger.

  • 3 Scatters – Trigger the jackpot round with all 4 Jackpot Prizes in play.
  • 4 Scatters – Triggers the jackpot round with the top 3 Jackpot Prizes in play.
  • 5 Scatters – Triggers the jackpot round with 2 of the top Jackpot Prizes in play.

Free Spins

Depending on how many Scatters symbols land during the intial trigger, the total amount of Free Spins awarded is based on the number of Scatters that landed during the initial trigger. Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters, awards 8, 10 and 15 Free Spins respectively.

During the Free Spins round, 1 High or Low-paying symbol is chosen at random (excluding Wild Scatters) to be your special Expanding symbol. When so many of your Expanding symbol land in view, they will expand to fill the entire reel. Please note, these symbols do not need to land adjacent to one another in order to Expand.

Landing 3 or more Scatters during Free Spins, awards an additional +5 Free Spins, up to a total of 55 and an extra High or Low-paying symbol will be chosen at random to join your other special Expanding symbol. If all 9 symbols become Expanding symbols, no more Free Spins are awarded.

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead: Our Verdict

Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead is another Egypt inspired slot to add to the pile from Play’n GO. If we’re entirely honest, it’s hard to get excited about another Cat Wilde title given that they all look the same and work in similar ways, with not much in the way of features other than the typical Gamble option, if you can really class that as a Feature.

For some reason or other, there seems to be a noticable disparity between Rich Wilde titles and that of his daughters. Whether it’s down to Nostalgia or something else, Cat Wilde titles probably won’t become as popular as classics like Book of Dead or Legacy of Dead, but that’s not to say they aren’t worthy alternatives.

Looking at Gameplay, Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead definitely has a lot more going for it than it’s sister slots. The Jackpot round and Instant Prize features are a really nice touch, which gives this particular Cat Wilde title the much-needed boost we’ve been desperately seeking.

In terms of statistics, it seems that Play’n GO has chosen to stick with what they’re comfortable with. Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead has identical statistics to the previous Cat Wilde title, with an above average RTP of 96.20% and a pleasent maximum win capacity of 10,000x. Whether this slot is capable of reaching 10,000x remains to be seen, but with the right setup and a little luck, we can’t see why it couldn’t.
