Rotiki Slot Review 2024

We’re heading back to the 1700’s, where the leader of the Azec Tribe is having a hard time parting with his fortune, in Play’n GO’s latest release, Rotiki!

King Kamehameha, leader of of the infamous Aztec Tribe, was known for his wealth and fortune and was not willing to part with it, even in Death. To avoid people getting sticky fingers, he decided to be buried in a secret location. 200 years later, rumours of his secret burial whereabouts surfaced amongst the locals, but is there any truth to these rumours?

Rotiki is a beautiful and spirited slot that puts a new spin on the popular Cluster Pays mechanic. Along with beauty, Rotiki also has the brains. Rather than your typical Cascading Reels, all symbols move from left to right with each block rotating as it goes. If innovation is what you’re after, Play’n GO has also thrown in an interesting Re-trigger feature which kicks off with the first Cluster.

In terms of theme, Rotiki has a beautiful Polynesian setting, with glowing symbols that really pop on the grid. Vibrant colours and mesmerizing masks also grab our attention, making all High and Low paying symbols easily recognisable. The background shows a Jungle scene, with Palm trees, Totem poles and a Volcano on the verge of eruption.

With the help of Tiki magic, can we navigate our way through vast rainforests and locate King Kamehameha’s secret burial site? Let’s play on and find out!

Rotiki Base Game

Rotiki Base Game and Features

Rotiki is a 6×8 Video Slot with a Cluster Pays mechanic. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 5 or more of the same symbol types either Horizontally or Vertically on the grid. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.05 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Rotiki is the Purple Mask, followed by the Blue, Red and Green Masks. Low paying symbols fall to Purple, Blue, Red and Green Aztec Tiles, all of which have the same pay value. There is also a Wild symbol present, which substitutes for all High and Low-paying symbols.

Rotiki has a rather intriguing Tiki Magic feature up for grabs, which certainly adds to an already interesting Re-Spins feature. More on this below!

Tiki Magic

Each time a winning combination is formed, 3 Re-Spins will be awarded. Once this happens, all winning clusters will lock into position and the remaining spaces will re-spin. If the same winning symbols land in view, they will also be held in position for the duration of Re-Spins. +3 additional Re-Spins will be awarded if a row is filled.

When the Re-Spins are complete, all Wild symbols currently in view can reveal one of the following Tiki Magic Modifiers.

  • Hanumi – Will only be performed when 2+ Clusters are present. The Hanumi modifier will merge all Clusters and transform them into the same symbol type.
  • Whakarei – Will be performed when 1 Cluster is present. The Whakarei modifier upgrades the current cluster to a random High-paying Mask symbol.

Rotiki: The Treasure Room

During the Tiki Magic feature, filling the entire grid with winning symbols will automatically trigger The Treasure Room.

Once active, all High and Low-paying symbols are removed and a blank grid is left in play. The aim of the game is to pick tiles to reveal hidden treasures, but be sure to choose wisely, you will only be granted a certain amount of Picks.

Each tile can reveal one of the following Hidden Treasures.

  • Blank Squares.
  • +5 additional Picks.
  • +1 Multiplier.
  • Special symbol, which maxes out the Multiplier to x10.

Rotiki: Our Verdict

When it comes to Cluster Pays Slots, Play’n GO has proven time and time again that they’re experts in the field, but how does Rotiki compare to the greats that came before it?

Rotiki shares almost nothing  with Reactoonz, Wild Frames and other notable slots with the same pay line mechanic, and it doesn’t quite have the same appeal either…

It’s evident to see that Rotiki is consistent with the kind of design quality that we’ve come to expect from Play’n GO, and gameplay isn’t bad either. The problem here is the potential.

Rotiki and its medium volatility rating results in a rather low maximum win cap of 1,000x, which may not be enough for the evolving needs of players who lean towards more volatile options. In Play’n GO’s defence, they’ve at least made something that has a lot of variety in terms of The Treasure Room and the picks within it.

Overall, Rotiki might not be a blockbuster Play’n GO hit, and it may not have the win potential that many are looking for, but it’s another dependable slot with the fun factor that you look for in a slot.
