Spring Heeled Jack Slot Review 2024
Be careful who you answer your door to in Relax Gaming partner Blue Guru Games‘ latest release, Spring Heeled Jack!
Victorian Englad has seen its fair share of villians in its time, but none were as notorious as Spring Heeled Jack. More menacing than malicious, a cloaked Spring Heeled Jack would knock on the doors of locals, disguised as a Policeman in need of help.
With a flash of his demonic red eyes, he would terrify the occupants before leaping away into the darkness. With his maniacal laugh echoing in the distance through the thick fog, the only thing he would leave behind is cloven-hoofed tracks.
Spring Heeled Jack is a high paced and volatile slot featuring Mystery symbols, Jumping Jack Multipliers, Free Spins and a cheeky Bonus Buy (for those outside the UK).
Will we be the unfortunate ones to receive a knock on the door from Spring Heeled Jack? Let’s play on and find out!
Spring Heeled Jack Base Game and Features
Spring Heeled Jack is a 5 reel slot with 243 ways to win. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol types land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available to players is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€40 per spin, with an ample selection of betting options in between the two/ Spring Heeled Jack has a theoretical RTP of 96.01% and a maximum win capacity of 15,587x.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is Jack, followed by the Policeman, Gentleman and Lady. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine. There are no Wilds present in Spring Heeled Jack.
Mystery Symbols
During the base game, Mystery symbols can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4. Mystery symbols will always appear Stacked, filling the entire reel they land on.
Once a Mystery symbol lands, it will transform into an instance of High or Low-paying symbols, matching the symbols on the reel preceeding them, including Scatters.
Win Multipliers
Another thing you will notice is that symbols will appear in the base game with a Multiplier value of x2, x3 or x5 applied to them (excluding Scatters).
If a symbol with an active Multiplier value is used as part of a winning combination, its respective Multiplier will be applied to the total win. If more than one Multiplier value is part of the same winning combination, both their Multiplier values will be added together then applied to the total win.
Spring Heeled Jack: Jumping Jack Free Spins
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters across the reels triggers the Jumping Jack Free Spins round, awarding 10, 12 and 15 Free Spins.
During Free Spins, up to a maximum of 3 stacked Mystery symbols can be added to reels 2, 3 or 4 like it can in the base game. In this round, symbols will appear with a Multiplier value of x2, x3, x5 or x10 applied to them (excluding Scatters), appearing more often than not.
If a winning combination is formed through the use of a stacked Mystery symbol, Jack will leap across the winning symbols, collecting up all the Multipliers used and applying them to the total win. If more than one stacked Mystery symbol forms a win, multiple Jacks will jump across the reels, collecting the winning Multiplers as they go and applying them to the total win.
Landing or revealing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters during Free Spins, awards an additional +10, +12 and +15 Free Spins.
Spring Heeled Jack Bonus Buy
For those of you who are outside the UK, you will benefit from a Bonus Buy option.
Blue Guru Games has granted players access to the Free Spins round for a total cost of 50x your current bet. When purchasing Free Spins, the RTP decreases slightly from 96.01% to 95.99%.
Spring Heeled Jack: Our Verdict
Spring Heeled Jack is a graphical marvel, but it falls short in other areas.
It’s a shame really, the initial impression of Spring Heeled Jack was one of excitement, and we thought for sure that impressive gameplay would accompany the impressively curated design.
The huge multiplier values on Spring Heeled Jack gives you a sense of impending carnage, but the wins that materialise feels a lot lower than you’d think. The Mystery Symbols feature is fine, but there’s nothing overly innovative about mystery symbols.
Maybe we just had a bad run, because on paper Spring Heeled Jack looks rather impressive with a maximum win of up to 15,587x. We’d eat our words if Spring Heeled Jack could prove us wrong, but it just feels like Blue Guru Games could have pushed the boat out a bit more.
They’re on the right track, but Spring Heeled Jack could have done with as much love in terms of gameplay as it received in design.
