Divine Dynasty Princess Slot Review 2024
Swedish outfit Fantasma Games is no stranger to dabbling in the mythological side of life.
On previous outings, we’ve been whisked to the well-trodden plains of Ancient Egypt, joined Prometheus, the Titan of Fire while hunting the coins of Medusa, island-hopped to Crete to fend off the fabled Minotaur, and even found time to brave a sprawling subterranean Underworld where Hades wields otherworldly powers.
We’re heading back above land for the next installment in the Fantasma Games saga. To the mysterious and prosperous Far East, to be precise, enticed by uncovering the secrets of the mythical phoenix and dragon in Divine Dynasty Princess.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ‘Seek the beautiful princess, and may her smile bless you with fortune.’ Sounds quite the proposition. It is occasionally said of an attractive belle that her smile is worth a million dollars. A tidy sum, no doubt, and enough to set most of us up for life. But seldom do smiles hold such Divine promise as those inside this Asian adventure. That’s slots for you
So, will the Gods of fortune smile down on you as you navigate this particularly alluring part of the world?
Grab a fortune cookie and come find out!
Divine Dynasty Princess Base Game and Features
A sumptuously carved golden phoenix and golden dragon peer over Divine Dynasty Princess’ 6×6 game matrix, set somewhere dimly lit to evoke a whiff of danger and mystique.
The background is predominantly, well, black. Or monochromatically noir, for the linguistically-minded. A spot where you can picture well-heeled gamblers attempting to out-think and out-maneuver one another hundreds of years ago while sipping on imported fine Portuguese whiskey. Or something like that.
The number of ways to win provided is variable, topping out at 46,656 in full flow due to the interchangeable nature of symbols that land. Symbols appear in blocks 1×1 up to 3×3 in size, but bear in mind their values remain unchanged regardless.
Everything is powered by a medium/high math model generating an eyebrow-raisingly stark 94.36% RTP. Starting to think Miss Princess’s smile isn’t so benevolent after all…
Starting from reel numero uno, winning symbols pay left to right over consecutive reels. The paytable is split between six low pays rendered in hues of blue, green, and bronze plus three coins worth up to 1.25x the stake for winning combinations of 6. Patterned blocks blue, green, or red in colour along with a golden fish comprise the high pays, spitting out a max 5x the bet should win ways of six symbols form.
As to features, Cascades see winning symbols disappear before new ones drop in to fill their empty spaces, continuing until no new wins hit. Cascades also work in tandem with an Increasing Multiplier, beginning at 1x and incrementing by 1x per cascade up to 20x.
Flying in next is the Phoenix Wild, which throws a wild symbol onto two random winning positions upon every other cascade throughout base gameplay.
Divine Dynasty Princess Free Spins
10 Free Spins are awarded for landing a scatter apiece on reels 1, 2, and 3 during a base game spin.
Here, the Phoenix Wild is guaranteed to activate every time a winning way lands, unlike regular base game action, while the increasing multiplier does not reset until the conclusion of the round. Finally, an additional 10 spins are added to your tally by landing 3 more scatters.
Divine Dynasty Princess Bonus Buy
The Free Spins round can also be triggered automatically via a Bonus Buy option by shelling out the equivalent of 70 times the wager, where legally permitted.
Divine Dynasty Princess: Our Verdict
For a game promising so much, Divine Dynasty Princess underdelivered most of the time, blowing a lot of hot Asian air through the half-ornate, half-foreboding setting depicted.
Sure, it sports the characteristically pristine polish we’ve come to expect from this studio, and its 5,702x max win, while by no means the stingiest out there, is hardly the stuff of dynastic legend either.
What’s more, unlike the richly decorated, immersive game worlds we’ve been treated to in the past from the provider, there isn’t a lot of depth to what’s on display here past the fairly non-descript game panel and minimalistic backdrop. Of course, looks aren’t everything, but they are one facet of a well-rounded gaming experience; their negative impact is amplified if paired with a noticeably low RTP score that hovers way below the ~96% industry average.
Is this a worrying sign of things to come from Fantasma? Let’s hope not, lest they suffer the same fate as the otherwise excellent ELK Studios, whose reputation has undoubtedly suffered a tarnishing in the minds of discerning slot aficionados since they sold their soul and started dropping sub-96% games.
As to the gameplay, there wasn’t much to unpick here either; certainly, little in the way of innovation or blue-sky thinking that would have pushed the slot beyond the realms of mediocrity. Shame, because Fantasma Games boasts one or two bangers in their locker, but sadly, for all its pretense to divinity, Divine Dynasty Princess can’t be classed as one of them.
