Tanked Slot Review
War is often a battle of minds as much as a clash of weapons—a test of resilience, strategy, and the relentless pursuit of dominance. Beneath the chaos lies a primal psychology: the drive to outwit, overpower, and survive.
In this Nolimit City slot, the battlefield is a volatile arena where power is the ultimate prize, and destruction is merely a stepping stone to supremacy. Prepare for an explosive contest where only the most cunning and ruthless will prevail.
Tanked is the latest in the Nolimit Labs range – a series of games that deviate from the conventional, if there is such a thing with Nolimit City. The Labs series is basically an experimental side of Nolimit City, where they try out new ideas. Some aren’t even slots at all, with Munchies and Outsourced: Slash Game as notable examples.
Tanked looks like more of a slot…we think? It is heavily reminiscent of ELK Studios’ Pirots series, but will it be similar in gameplay?
Base Game & Features
Tanked is a 6×6 Video Slot with a reel formation of 4-6-6-6-6-4 and varying bet sizes between £.€0.20 and £.€100 per spin. During a game round, the reel layout can expand to 9×9. Tanked is a highly volatile slot with an overall RTP of 96.10% and a max win cap of 25,000x your bet.
Through the xLoot mechanic, payouts are awarded when the moving character is adjacent to a matching Gem of its colour. Wild symbols are separate from Gems and can be collected by all characters.
Of the 4 Gem symbols available, the highest-paying is the Orange Gem, followed by Green, Blue, and Purple. Character symbols will move up, down, left, or right to collect any matching gem symbols that are part of the winning cluster.
Multipliers
Special additive Multipliers can appear across the reels and be picked up by any character, applying its value to all wins. Multiplier symbols will appear with a value between x2 and x1,000.
Tank Boosters
In the base game, up to 4 Tank Boosters can be picked up by each character. Each of the 4 Tank Boosters triggers a random modifier – these include:
- Rocket: The character will shoot the wall closest to a random enemy character, causing an explosion that removes all enemy characters and payout symbols in a cross pattern, increasing the grid size by +1 step.
- Grenade: The character will throw the grenade at a random enemy character, causing an explosion that removes all paying symbols within a square pattern.
- Power Drill: The character drives to the largest cluster on the grid of the same colour, removing all enemy characters, payout symbols, and wilds in its path. This modifier will not impact xBomb, Barrel Bomb, or MaxWin symbols. If the character is unable to move, it will explode and remove all paying symbols in a square pattern.
- Airstrike: The character hits up to 3 enemy characters which creates an explosion within a cross pattern.
If a character is removed by any of the Tank Boosters, it will lose a life and reappear in a new position on the grid. Please note, that explosions do not interfere with Scatters, xSplit, xNudge, and Wild symbols.
xBomb & Barrel Bomb
xBomb and Barrel Bomb symbols trigger an explosion if there is no movement from the 4 characters. Once this happens, it will cause the following events to occur:
- xBomb: Removes all paying symbols in the explosion path and increases the overall Multiplier by +x1
- Barrel Bomb: Removes all paying symbols in the explosion path and expands the grid size vertically and/or horizontally by +1 step
Booms
There are 2 types of ‘Booms’ available during gameplay – these include:
- Small Boom: Occurs when 3 characters are directly next to each other, unable to move. Each character will explode and remove all paying symbols and themselves in the explosion path
- Big Boom: When all 4 characters are directly next to each other, unable to move, they will explode and wipe out all paying symbols on the reel area, increasing the grid size by +1 step
Kill Count
When a character symbol is within an explosion path of any Tank Booster, xBomb, Barrel Bomb, or Boom, they instantly lose a life.
Once a character has lost all 3 lives, it will be considered ‘dead’ and removed from the reel area, along with all corresponding symbols. The character will then resurrect after the next evaluation.
xNudge Wild & xSplit
- xNudge: This symbol will nudge down to the bottom position of the reel, or until it hits a non-paying symbol. If no Multiplier is active when the xNudge symbol hits, it will set the Multiplier to x2. The multiplier will then increase by +x1 for every step it nudges. If an additional xNudge appears, a further +x1 Multiplier is added.
- xSplit: This symbol splits all paying symbols horizontally or vertically, doubling their size and converting itself into a Wild. xSplit symbols will also double the value of any Multiplier symbols it comes into contact with.
Grid Expansion & Max Expansion
As mentioned previously, the overall grid size can expand to a maximum of 9×9. The grid expands by +1 step if a Rocket hits the wall or a Barrel Bomb is self-triggered. The grid expands in 4 Steps:
- Step 1: Grid expands from 6×6 to 8×6 or 6×8.
- Step 2: Grid expands from 6×8 or 8×6 to 8×8.
- Step 3: Grid expands from 8×8 to 9×8 or 8×9.
- Step 4: Grid expands from 9×8 or 8×9 to 9×9.
In addition, the grid will automatically expand to 9×9 if an xBomb or Barrel Bomb are within the explosion path of any Tank Booster.
Nolimit Boosters
- Ante Bet 1: Each spin is 4 times more likely to trigger a Free Spins mode (3x your bet)
- Ante Bet 2: Each spin awards 4 random Tank Boosters to characters (40x your bet)
Carnage Spins
Landing 3 Scatters in the base game triggers Carnage Spins, awarding 5 Free Spins. Upon entry, Multipliers, Kill Count, and grid size are carried over from the base game.
Carnage Royale Spins
Landing 4 Scatters in the base game triggers Carnage Royale, awarding 7 Free Spins. As with Carnage Spins, multipliers, kill count, and grid size are carried over from the base game.
In this round, the grid will be set to 9×9 and a +x5 Multiplier is added to the current Multiplier that is carried over from the base game. If all characters die in the same explosion during this time, the round is upgraded to Mayhem Spins, with all remaining spins played in the upgraded mode.
Mayhem Spins
In Mayhem Spins, the grid size will automatically be set to 9×9 and a +x10 Multiplier is added to the current multiplier carried over from the base game.
During this round, all characters will regain 1 life. Mayhem Spins can be retriggered if all characters die in the same explosion, awarding +1 Free Spin and a +x10 Multiplier allowance.
Our Verdict
Nolimit City is regularly leading the way, but this one can be accredited as much to ELK Studios in many ways. Of course, ideas are often built upon the foundations of others and while glaringly obvious, who better to take those blueprints than Nolimit City?
Tanked turned out to be quite explosive, with absolutely no shortage of ammunition and no chance of a cease fire. It truly comes from all directions, with Rockets, Grenades, Drills and Airstrikes a-plenty with death not far behind for the patriotic warmongers confined within the reels.
The grid size and its ability to grow makes Tanked a marvel to behold, but it’s quite dependent on momentum to get to the maximum 9×9 grid as the 4th and last expansion. With xMechanic features like xBomb in play, the expansion can at times seem quite frequent. Other features include more staples and xSplit to make it feel more NLC than ELK.
We tend not to focus too much on the buy features, so as not to instil envy into our primarily UK audience, but there are boosters available in the xBet department. The main draw of it all is the Mayhem spins, which start the grid at max with a +10 multiplier. It can retrigger and is intentionally the most exciting part of Tanked, but Carnage Spins and Carnage Royale Spins have an undeniable charm too.
The motherlode of it all is its 25,000x win cap, which is expected to trigger 1 in 30M spins with the 96.04% RTP variant of the game.
Overall, we think Tanked is the perfect amount of chaos. It’s a war you won’t want to miss.
