Jack the Giant Hunter from PG SOFT reimagines the innocent fairy tale in a considerable way. We’ve all heard the story of innocent little Jack, climbing up the beanstalk, defenceless but triumphant, killing the giant as he chopped down the beanstalk.

PG SOFT’s version of Jack is a little more capable, more serious, and more badass. He’ll take the giant head-on, and he’ll show no mercy.

At first glance, Jack the Giant Hunter portrays a feeling of serious impending doom. The vast sprawling fields, ominous sky and eerie music give you a feeling of dread, which is exactly how a dark/horror game should feel. They’ve done a good job of making Jack the Giant Hunter feel very sinister.

Indeed, this isn’t the Jack and the Beanstalk we know, and certainly not a version of it that we’d show to our children. It’s something else, like a meld of the classic fairy tale with Attack on Titan, and honestly quite unique as far as ideas go.

It’s a high volatility slot, with an RTP of 96.80% and a max win of 10,000x the bet. In this slot review, we’ll check out its features and see if it’s more than just an interesting theme.

Base Game and Features

Jack the Giant Hunter is a 5-reel slot with 1,024 – 32,768 ways to win.

Forming a win requires at least 3 of any matching symbol to connect from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the left-most reel.

The highest paying symbols are the Giant, Jack, Golden Goose, Harp, Coins, Axe and Torch Symbols. The lowest paying symbols are card suits, Spades, Hearts, Clubs and Diamonds. There is a Wild symbol, which substitutes for all except the scatter symbol.

The Wild symbol appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Framed Symbols

Framed symbols may appear on the reels during any spin.

Before new symbols cascade down, any framed symbol involved in a win during the previous round will transform either into a Sprouting Seed Symbol or Golden Egg Symbol

  • Sprouting Seeds – Expands the reel by 1 additional symbol, increasing the number of ways to win
  • Golden Egg – Increases the total multiplier by 1

If 1 or more reels have 8 symbols, framed symbols involved in a win will be transformed into a Golden Egg Symbol

Free Spins

Hitting a bonus requires at least 4 scatter symbols, triggering 12 free spins. 2 more Free Spins are awarded for each additional scatter after the fourth.

The multiplier starts at x2 during Free Spins, with each reel height set at 6 symbols. Golden Egg symbols will increase the multiplier by +2.

Between each spin, the multiplier once again starts at x2, and the reel height resets to 7776 ways (6 symbols on each reel).

Our Honest Verdict

Jack the Giant Hunter is an excellent game from PG SOFT, offering up exciting gameplay with multipliers that can increase exponentially, and with it bring exponential wins. The Base Game is quite eventful with the Sprouting Seed and Golden Egg symbols, depending on how many you can trigger and how long the cascading wins go on for.

The goal is to land as many framed symbols as possible, and we found that Sprouting Seeds were initially more valuable than the Golden Eggs. Increasing the reel height consistently led to better outcomes, as it unlocked more ways to win. Once those expanded reels were in play, the multiplier became much more impactful, amplifying the bigger wins.

These features really came to life during the Free Spins mode, though perhaps not to their full potential. The Golden Egg symbol received a significant upgrade, now offering 2x increases instead of 1x. Combined with the standard 7,776 win ways, this led to a noticeable boost in multipliers.

When we first checked it out, we thought it was comparable to Big Time Gaming‘s White Rabbit in some ways, but there are notable differences.

Unfortunately, the reel height did not retain its improvements between each spin. Though improved quite significantly from the Base Game, the reel height gains beyond 7776 ways reset between spins.

We suppose Jack the Giant Hunter may have been too capable had they included this feature. There was a balance to be struck, and PG SOFT opted for an emphasis on the multipliers.

Regardless of what may have been, and what method you prefer or would have preferred, Jack the Giant Hunter is an effective slot, and a very entertaining one. We love the concept, and we think its 10,000x win potential seems quite achievable, and think its RTP of 96.8% quite fair.
