Base Game & Features

Eye of Medusa is a highly volatile 5×5 Video Slot with up to 3,125 ways to win. Wins are guaranteed when 3-5 identical symbols appear on reels 1-5, on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel.

Paytable symbols fall to 5 high-paying (character) symbols and 5 low-paying card suits (A-10), awarding fixed payouts between 0.1x and 4x your bet. Eye of Medusa has up to 2 Special symbols available during gameplay:

  • Medusa: Acts as Wild, while only 1 Medusa symbol can land during any spin
  • FS Scatters: Are responsible for triggering Free Spins, but cannot land while Medusa is visible on the reels

Lastly, each winning combination is part of the Super Cascades Feature, meaning they will disappear from the reels, causing new symbols to drop from above. This continues until no more wins are available for that spin.

Medusa Symbols

Silver & Gold Medusa symbols act as Wilds on the reels, substituting for all symbols except FS Scatters.

When a win occurs with a low-paying symbol while a Medusa symbol is present, it will drop to the bottom of the reel and remain there until the end of the current spin. All other non-petrified symbols will be removed to allow new symbols to drop in via the Super Cascades feature.

Petrified Symbols

Alternatively, when a win is created using High-paying symbols while a Medusa symbol is present, the winning symbols will transform into Petrified symbols, which drop to the bottom of the reels, including the Medusa symbol.

Both the petrified symbols and Medusa will remain at the bottom while all other symbols are replaced with new ones via the Super Cascades feature. If additional wins occur using high-paying symbols, they too will drop to the bottom, in a petrified state.

At the end of the spin, all Petrified symbols reveal an Adding Multiplier from the Bronze, Silver, or Gold values below, depending on the type of high-paying symbol available.

  • Bronze: 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x
  • Silver: 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x
  • Gold: 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x

After the Pretrified Multipliers are revealed, Medusa will display a separate value, depending on which Medusa symbol is available.

  • Silver Medusa: Between x1 and x4
  • Gold Medusa: Between x5 and x20

The final outcome is determined by adding the total value of Petrified symbols to the Medusa Multiplier, which multiplies your total win for the round.

Featurespins & Bonus Buy

Players outside the UK jurisdiction can participate in multiple Bonus Buy options from the following:

  • Bonushunt Featurespins: Once active, a Free Spins mode is 5 times more likely to trigger for 3x your bet per spin
  • Medusa Featurespins: Each spin with this feature active will guarantee 1 Medusa symbol and a minimum of 1x on Petrified symbols for 50x your bet
  • Snakes & Stones: Awards 10-12 Free Spins with enhanced features for 100x your bet
  • Gorgon’s Gold: Medusa symbols activate a minimum Multiplier, which increases when higher values land for 200x your bet

Each of the above options awards a High Volatility score and varying RTP modules between 96.17% and 96.3%.

Eye of Medusa includes a fixed max win potential of 10,000x your bet. If a game round exceeds this figure, the current mode ends, and the players return to the base game with the full amount.

Eye of Medusa Free Spins

The Snakes & Stones Bonus is triggered when 3 FS Scatters land in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins. Alternatively, this bonus can be activated in the base game by landing 4 FS Scatters, which awards 12 Free Spins.

In this round, there is an increased chance of landing Silver & Gold Medusa symbols with higher Multipliers. Lastly, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Gorgon’s Gold

The Gorgon’s Gold bonus can be accessed by landing 5 FS Scatters in the base game, awarding 12 Free Spins.

In this mode, when a Silver or Gold Medusa lands, its Multiplier becomes the lowest amount for all future Medusa symbols. If a higher Multiplier appears, it will counteract the minimum Multiplier, updating the lowest value.

Lastly, landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters triggers a further +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Our Honest Verdict

It wasn’t long ago that we were at the mercy of Medusa in Thunderkick’s newest slot release, MeJUICEa. Many interpretations of Medusa have taken place in hundreds of games, and although she always displays her intimidating snake hair, she’s never as ‘ugly’ as the Greek Gods portrayed her to be.

In Hacksaw Gaming’s version, Medusa stands, long-legged and gazing, to the right of the main reel set, while a much shorter Roman warrior lines up to be her next victim on the opposing side – brave as he may be, we’re certain it won’t end well for him.

Many have tried to strike her down, but her powerful gaze turns even the strongest beings to stone. In the base game, Medusa symbols have the power to petrify high-paying wins, causing them to gather at the bottom of the reels.

The more high-paying wins gather at the bottom, the higher the reward. This is only magnified by the Silver or Gold Medusa symbol, which reveals a separate Multiplier between x1 and x20 to create the final win amount.

During the Snakes & Stones bonus, the same base game mechanics are carried over, only with an increased chance of landing Medusa symbols. This bonus can be triggered with 3 or 4 FS Scatters, which award a generous number of Free Spins each.

However, the Gorgon’s Gold bonus requires a little more persistence to trigger, thanks to the 5 FS Scatters needed. While this is a little more challenging to achieve, it’s also the most highly-rewarding of the two modes.

Medusa symbols that activate not only gather high-paying symbols, but they also set the lowest Multiplier for all future Medusa symbols in this mode, creating opportunities to win the 10,000x max win potential.

All in all, Eye of Medusa has many rewarding features in the base game and plenty of excitement throughout each Free Spins mode. Medusa may have a bad reputation among the Greek Gods, but to us regular folk, she’s a pretty great gal (just don’t stare too long).
